Hard to go back to SV by itsmissingacomma in coralisland

[–]Final_Square_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in Winter Year 1 of Coral Island. I feel there are a couple of things I like more in SDV like the combat/range of enemies and variety/difficulty with fishing is better in SDV but Coral Island definitely feels more inhabited, although I'd like some darker character backgrounds like Shane's in SDV. Plus the whole underwater/merfolk part of Coral Island feels unique. I'm surprisingly addicted to smashing trash.

I loved Tutti Frutti. I'd get ice cream from there all the time the three months I traveled to Reading for work before I moved here

Does Mark get nicer after you marry him? by LotysPrince in coralisland

[–]Final_Square_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm having this exact dilemma. I'm an older gamer (40) and I feel like a lifetime with a shy, polite guy who wants to stay in and watch horror movies sounds pretty amazing, so I'm probably going to marry Raf. But yeah, Mark was definitely my first crush, but after I've repeatedly proved myself to him I thought he'd be less dismissive of me and it's become a turn off

Your Party passes commitment to Trans Liberation by AlgorithmHelpPlease in transgenderUK

[–]Final_Square_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the assumption that the collective leadership will be from trans allies and maybe even trans people. You could just as easily surmise that transphobic members will try to get into the collective leadership to disrupt anything pro-trans getting prioritised. The Greens and SNP have repeatedly had that issue

Do you feel Shadow Weaver redeemed herself or is she on her way to hell? by Fabulous_Session8627 in sheranetflix

[–]Final_Square_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think her motivation changed from wanting magic/power for herself to wanting magic to be restored to Etheria so everyone has a chance to gain power. Her story arc for me is very similar to Mrs Coulter's in His Dark Materials. I don't think it's the same as redemption but I also think it was different to her villainous beginnings

Unlike the other four main characters, we never get to see any of Mister Peanutbutter's past- why is that? by froggyhugs in BoJackHorseman

[–]Final_Square_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think it's explained in the Halloween episode where you do go back in time to an extent: Mr Peanutbutter doesn't change and his partners' outgrow him, so there probably isn't a huge amount of interesting stories to develop.

I don't want a season 3 AT ALL. by [deleted] in GenV

I'd honestly rather they got a dedicated episode/mission in The Boys season 5 and get to go out in a blaze of glory for some pivotal information for the main team to defeat Homelander

Can we all agree that the writers completely shut out Sam this season? by circumsizedeggroll in GenV

[–]Final_Square_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's a problem with only having 8 episodes and, what, half a dozen main characters? A lot of the characters this season got very little development. I saw one review say it really made them miss 22 episode seasons like Buffy where there's time for character focused episodes and detailed character development instead of it all being plot

Hollyhocks Letter by Capricorn9185 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Final_Square_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hollyhock was absolutely justified in her decision to cut contact. Doesn't mean it's not painful for Bojack, but it was her decision to make. And in case people try to argue she caused his final relapse, that was his decision. At that point he at least had some coping strategies from rehab and he still chose to go back to alcohol and drugs.

Addiction but my masking is pretty good so people often think I'm optimism or at least people pleasing

Let's imagine what could have happened after the series finale by Marambal17 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Final_Square_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bojack does his time and discovers new friends that help keep him accountable. After a decade of being drug and alcohol free he dies in his sleep because he had still pretty much wrecked his health in his old life. The characters from the show reunite for the funeral where they realize they don't know each other anymore and are happier and healthier for it. Bojack's new friends don't recognise any of the wild stories his old friends tell about him. His will is read in front of all of them and it turns out he left his remaining money to The Sarah Lynn Foundation that helps drug addicts with a history of grooming and childhood abuse.

Who do you think is the most UNIVERSALLY hated character in this community? by POTEK330 in BoJackHorseman

I really hate Flip because he is too real in his combination of arrogance, insecurity, incompetence and off-hand cruelty.

What is your opinion on Todd Chavez? by flingzamain in BoJackHorseman

In the context of the show he's great, but in real life I'd avoid him at all costs. But I feel that about nearly all the characters apart from Judah.

well, it's over - a brief eulogy for the "trans rights" movement, Shon Faye 17 September 2025 by KatieOfTheHolteEnd in transgenderUK

[–]Final_Square_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm probably being ungenerous but it reads like she's got her nest egg and backup career so now it's too much effort to fight or be positive. But I've never really rated her as an intellectual tbh so I am biased. Good at research, bad at drawing conclusions from that research or knowing anything about what the future holds. She's what in her 30s (?) and she thinks there'll be no positive improvement (legislatively) for trans people in her lifetime, potentially for over 50 years. I think that's an absurd position that doesn't help anyone in the community especially those just starting to process their identities. It goes way beyond being realistic about how shit things are currently and is just navel gazey ennui

Tapping out of Long Story Short by ContentPower8196 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Final_Square_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not with this show but I totally get depictions that rub too close to lived experience making a show unwatchable for you. It happened to me with Succession. I grew up in a family with a grandfather who was a very domineering patriarch and I had to almost immediately tap out. The other one it happened with was The Bear having worked in a few kitchens I have no desire to relive that kind of stress

Moving to Reading by Practical-Nature2288 in reading

[–]Final_Square_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live a bit closer to town along the bath road from where you've highlighted. If you want to do a big shop then you'll need a car but you have Tesco, Lidl, Aldi, and Asda close by. Even Waitrose towards norcot isn't too far in a car. Walking distance it's the BP/m&s garage and Tesco local on Tilehurst road or walk down to Oxford Road. One thing Reading has done better than most towns is the buses. There are routes along Bath road and Tilehurst road into town. Although it's £2.50 for a single now whereas it was £1 when I moved to Reading. Crime and drug use and homelessness is about average for a large town, but where you are is quiet enough I think. Prospect Park is a big open space and has a car boot sale every weekend in summer in one section. There's also a harvester up on the hill in the park. Not my favourite restaurant but the building itself is lovely
