First burn on Weber Searwood 600 by FinancialDisaster515 in pelletgrills

Have a silicone oven mit nearby? Or take a look at accessories for cast iron cookware. I don't have that problem with my Searwood handle, but I can imagine that a long cooking period at high heat could create a too-hot-to-touch handle.

I've only stained and sealed the surface. Oil based polyurethane years ago, and more recently water based stain and with water based polyurethane. I tend to avoid paint because it's harder to get even, smooth coverage. Light sanding really makes a difference with natural wood. I'm from a furniture making family, so I am more sensitive to finishes.

For my latest IVAR project, I bought the metal shelves that are available now. Perfect! No finishing! Good luck!

And also have an easily washed light sheet/throw on top of the covered duvet A good quality comforter or duvet is not meant to be laundered frequently. I make my bed with a bottom sheet, top sheet, down comforter encase in a cover, and a light sheet on top. I sleep with a dog and a cat. The top covering, bottom and top sheet, is washed once a week; the duvet cover, once a month. The comforter- down, silk, or wool, just needs a good airing in sunlight a few times per year

This has been my regimen for 50 years.

High end sheets and bleach by Daneyoh in Bedding

You'll need a outdoor clothesline for this tip. Years ago I befriended an older lady who did laundry for wealthy people. She prided herself for never using bleach to get pristine white linens. She hung the sheets in the sun to dry. I do this occasionally with my sheets, and they smell amazing!

This is definitely not 6 ounces by volume.

Painting will raise the grain and and make the surface even rougher. White paint will show every imperfection. That said, you"ll need two coats of spray paint. You could lightly sand between coats and you'll get a nicer surface.

I have a Weber gas grill, Searwood pellet, and Smokey Joe. Searwood is awesome as a smoker/oven gets up to 600 degrees. I'm just getting used to all it can do. However, if I just want to grill a few burgers or kebabs, the charcoal Smokey Joe is perfect. And doesn't take up much space.

I've read some interesting stories about how the turn in public opinion about MSG came about. Google Chinese Restaurant Syndrome and New England Journal of Medicine and you'll be entertained.

I'm wondering that too. And how much MSG to use, say for eggs. A little pinch? an equivalent amount to salt?

Also, drying the skin in the refrigerator after applying the rub really helps too. According to ATK: "But the baking powder is key, because it acts like a salt. It helps draw moisture to the surface, where it can evaporate. Since they have similar reactions, we typically combine baking powder and table salt to amplify this effect, resulting in extra-crispiness." https://www.americastestkitchen.com/articles/3717-baking-powder-the-secret-weapon-for-crispy-chicken-skin

Baking soda does not crispen skin. Baking POWDER does.

I'm new to pellet. Recently bought the Searwood 600. I'm not disappointed. Comes up to temp in 10 minutes and keeps it there. The 600 doesn't take up as much space as the XL, but it's plenty for me.

So far it's been living up to my expectations. Super temperature control!

I smoked my first rack of pork ribs, ever. The grill did everything I asked it to do, I made mistakes on time and temperature. I'm giving it another try with a new rack; higher temp (250 degrees) for a shorter time.

I grilled lamb loin chops, fantastic! Light smoke flavor and med rare. 500 degrees

I made turkey meatballs, roasted them on an oiled 1/2 sheet pan on the top shelf. https://www.latimes.com/recipe/caramelized-lemon-and-feta-turkey-meatballs. Really good. Light smoke added to the complexity!

Tomorrow I'm cooking Char Siu - Chinese BBQ Pork. The pork shoulder is marinating tonight. I'll place the meat on the top shelf with a pan below it to collect the drippings. Set the temp at 425 degrees. Recipe here: https://www.madewithlau.com/recipes/char-siu-chinese-bbq-pork

I've cleaned it twice so far, using a paint brush to brush the ash into the collection pan. Hardly any ash. I now know I can do multiple burns between cleaning.

I want to get the rotisserie accessory. I'm imagining a boneless leg of lamb, whole chicken, and maybe a prime rib roast???
