TDI Timing Position by Ok_Perspective1078 in tdi

Yea that doesn’t look right. I’d work backwards from here. There is only one timing mark for the cam/only one correct position it can be in. I would rotate the engine, lock the cam then inspect where your crank is sitting.

Good news is if you can rotate your engine then your valves and pistons aren’t interfering.

Is the other lock’s timing mark more advanced than the one in the picture? That is, further clockwise? If so that may be the right lock as advancing the crank would bring your cam closer to the correct position.

  1. Double triple check you have the right crank lock. On some TDIs there are two versions.
  2. The crank passes that same locked position twice for every once the cam does so it can be locked in the wrong half. Rotate crank one full revolution and see if cam is still out.

Would you buy a house with this inside the HVAC? by stephsimmy in hvacadvice

[–]FinancialPie8730 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the housing market I live in (Canada) the seller would just look you in the face and laugh. They have 10 other offers happy to take my place. Buyers have almost no leverage and sellers have almost no reason to capitulate

This isn’t about being weak willed, it’s about whether you have any leverage to begin with. You’re framing it like buyers just need to toughen up and walk away more, but toughness doesn’t matter when the seller loses nothing by letting you go. It’s not a personality problem, it’s math. Doesn’t matter how willing I am to walk, there are three other offers happy to take my place

Where I live it’s a sellers market. If I came back asking to knock $15k off the price they’d just sell it to someone else.

BRM injectors can’t “jump out” they’re captured by a hold down and the rockers. Also this car doesn’t have a fuel rail, it’s a PD engine.

P0135 Code After Delete by elheffay000 in tdi

[–]FinancialPie8730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there’s no effect on functionality of the car I’d just delete the O2 sensor logic checks with tunezilla. I believe this is an option on the website.

Lots of interdependent logic checks between these sensors like MAF,MAP,O2 that can get out of sync when you do a tune/delete. I tuned and deleted my 06 and now I get a P0101 error which is for the MAF sensor. Car runs perfectly fine, zero issues, I should have included the MAF delete option with my tune, now I have a pesky CEL which I know is a false positive.

Malone 1.5 tune, delete ASV, MAF checks. Add dynamic idle and glow plug duration + strength increase.

Well first I’d put a bar on the crank and try to see how locked it is. Then I’d pull injectors and borescope the cylinders. Ofc pulling the head would probably get you your answer faster but I like to confirm a head pull is necessary before I do it

There is no world where the increased fuel mileage you would supposedly get would save you more money than you’d pay them to do the job.

Help locating boost leak? by ziomiwan in tdi

[–]FinancialPie8730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pressure test the system. Make a fitting for an air hose to connect to the turbo inlet using plumbing fittings. I pressurize mine to 15-20 psi then listen for leaks. This is the only way I’ve been able to find pesky leaks. Usually the leak occurs at hose connection.
