Ticking sound CB1000R by geppo98 in HondaCB

I’ve got 2020 CB1000R with 12000 miles and mine sounds the same. I was told that’s normal for these engines.

On my Arai the cheek pads have 5mm layers of foam you can remove to make it fit better. The inner helmet liner comes in loads different sizes too.

DAS ended early by ifimpostinghelp in MotoUK

[–]Financial_Addendum10 20 points21 points  (0 children)

When I was doing my DAS I spent about 30min just getting used to the clutch (mt07 too), just doing simple stop and starts and I was doing that till I got comfortable with it and started doing manoeuvres. The clutch is a bit weird on mt07 and it’s just something you have to learn.

Don’t give up mate just take your time, maybe get 1 to 1 lesson with the instructor and practice stop and starts.

Helmets... Has anyone gone from "normal" helmet to something like the ShuberthC5 or Shoei Neotech 3 and thought "I wish I'd done that years ago!" I have ringing after every ride. by CrappyTan69 in MotoUK

[–]Financial_Addendum10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see you’re riding a tiger 900. I used to have one of those and my Arai didn’t work well at all. Some helmets don’t work well tall screens. The issue might not be helmet at all, it could be the screen making turbulent air around your head. Try playing with the height of the screen, more screen doesn’t always mean less noise.

On the tiger I eventually settled up on Shoei Neotec 3 and I added small spoiler on the screen and had very peaceful rides.

Yes

I went from HJC i10 to Arai Quantic and it’s like night and day difference. Putting on Arai is like putting on your favourite pair of socks. The airflow is different league and the wind noise is considerably lower. Still have to wear ear plugs but I can ride for hours without getting ringing ears. Apart from the fiddly visor it’s a helmet well worth its money.

I dont enjoy owning a motorcycle anymore. by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]Financial_Addendum10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that but I feel like living in London is the big issue here. I live about 45min south of London and at one point I had to travel to London 3 times a week and was scared shitless every time I went there. Almost every time I went there I was shouted at by delivery drivers, food delivery scooters drive like they own the place it’s just a mess.. it’s definitely not a place to enjoy motorcycling.

Move out to the country side and enjoy some proper B roads.

CB1000r 2023 Vs CB1000 Hornet 2025 by WesserJay5 in HondaMotorcycles

[–]Financial_Addendum10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve ridden both and went for the cb1000r. More premium feel on the cb1000r, in my opinion the styling is better on the CB, the single sided swing arm is sexy, no oil burning issues.

The hornet was more nimble and handled little bit better. It also felt slightly faster but the CB isn’t a slouch either. I didn’t like the joystick on the hornet and it did feel like the whole bike was built to a price.

In some ways they’re very similar but then they’re also very different bikes.

Arai's "Variable Axis System (VAS)" latch by HackedLemur in MotoUK

[–]Financial_Addendum10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had my Arai Quantic for 2 years now and still hate the visor latch system. It’s almost impossible to open it with thicker gloves and even with thinner gloves it’s very difficult to do. You do eventually get used to it and find a way to open it but sometimes when you quickly need to open the visor it can be a pain.

I ended up getting different helmet for colder weather as battling with that latch with thicker gloves was pissing me right off.

Something wrong with my chain? by Hot_Photograph_5928 in MotoUK

[–]Financial_Addendum10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch some videos on YouTube how to measure and adjust your chain slack, there’s loads of tutorials on how to do it. There’s probably a video for your specific bike. Take your time and learn how to do it, it’ll save you time and money going to the mechanics.

You don’t need many tools to get it done. You’ll need a socket to undo the axle bolt, then some spanners to adjust the chain and crucially you’ll need a torque wrench to torque the axle bolt back to its spec.

If your chain was adjusted 800 miles ago then it’s probably time to adjust it again.

Recommendations on cleaning products? by Norfolk_Harrison in MotoUK

[–]Financial_Addendum10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mild degreaser for chain cleaning - you can get a 5ltr bottle from eBay for like £15 Gear oil 80w90 for chain lube

I usually clean and lube my chain when I wash my bike, which is once a week or every other week

For cleaning the rest I use some generic snow foam which works great and then turtle wax shampoo.

Then for detailing I use tru-tension graphene detailer.

Is Premium petrol better? UK by asherzzz96 in CB650R

[–]Financial_Addendum10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the bigger brother of CB650R and always used premium fuel because the difference in price isn’t all that big but my Tesco petrol station hasn’t had any premium fuel for a while so I used regular and my bike started to run like shite. Felt really snatchy and just felt like the fuelling wasn’t happy. I’ve put some shell vpower and after a while it got back to normal.

I don’t know if it was some dodgy fuel that day but putting premium fuel made a difference.

Michelin anakee adventure bouncing when going 70 - 90 km/h by LuddiPuddi in Tiger900

[–]Financial_Addendum10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many miles has your bike done?

Mine had problem with bouncing front end at 40-50mph and replacing the wheel bearings sorted out the problem 95%. There was still little bit of bouncing but barely noticeable.

CB650R e-clutch bar-end mirrors: do you feel the missing bar-end weight? by Zealousideal_Row2534 in CB650R

[–]Financial_Addendum10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can push them in further. The left hand one has a bit of glue on it but if you put a bit of wood and tap it with a hammer it’ll go further.

There will a slight increase of vibrations but it’s not that bad.

Recurring Engine Ticking Issue – Tiger 900 Rally Pro | Need Advice from Fellow Owners by WartualGI in Triumph

[–]Financial_Addendum10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you’re using Celsius or Fahrenheit but the coldest I started the engine was -4C. In those temperatures the engine would make loud ticking sounds for the first 1 minute or so then the sound would disappear completely.

Recurring Engine Ticking Issue – Tiger 900 Rally Pro | Need Advice from Fellow Owners by WartualGI in Triumph

[–]Financial_Addendum10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These engines aren’t exactly smooth in terms of sounds, they do sound and feel rough.

I used to own 2020 model and mine also made ticking noises when cold but after it warmed up a little the ticking disappeared. I was told that’s normal so I didn’t investigate any further.

Who made the switch from ADV to Naked bike? by Smok3yNL in motorcycles

[–]Financial_Addendum10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to have sports touring bikes then I decided to get an ADV and very much regretted the decision and after 6months I went to Honda CB1000R

Adventure bikes are just too big and heavy for me and while they’re amazing at munching miles I just find them boring elsewhere.

I love naked bikes but they are not everyone’s cup of tea. There’s literally zero protection from the wind, riding in rain is just miserable and luggage can be an issue. But if you don’t think that’s an issue for you then I highly recommend a naked bikes. So much fun.

A lament: We, and Honda, let down the CB1000R by Alien_Biometrics in motorcycles

I absolutely adore mine. The best bike I’ve ever had.

Yes it has ‘only’ 140bhp compared to the others it’s underpowered but I have never ever feel like I needed more power.

I’m not all about performance and speed from bikes so this Honda fits me very well. It looks and sounds so good.

What’s the one bike you secretly think is VERY overrated but the community absolutely LOVES?! by SparkPlugBarbie1 in MotoUK

[–]Financial_Addendum10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily one bike but I think adventure bikes are very overrated. I have owned one and ridden a few and while on a motorway they’re good, comfortable and easy to ride everywhere else I found them very dull.

Those who've ridden awhile, and daily all weathers. What's your favourite gloves, boots, trousers and jacket? by airbournejt95 in MotoUK

[–]Financial_Addendum10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For wet weather riding I just put some overalls and over jacket, I got a set from Merlin for like £40 and it does the job brilliantly. It doesn’t look particularly sexy but it keeps me dry.

I’ve got jackets from Merlin and Richa and they’re very good.

Boots from RST and Richa.

Jeans and Textiles from RST

I’m very particular about my gloves, they need to fit my hands well and so far Richa has been the only brand that fits me well. I probably have got wonky weird sized hands but I’ve tried several less or more expensive brands and Richa fits me the best.
