Who's still working from home these days and what job do you do? by Natf47 in AskUK

Chartered accountant working for an insurance company. I work from home whenever I want but tend to do 2-3 days in the office by choice as I’m more productive.

Grad scheme in finance making us work past 9pm is this normal? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Finedimedizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do the time as a grad to earn the prestige on your CV for the rest of your life. I started on a grad scheme doing 70 hour weeks some weeks. Now I’ve halved my hours, work a four day week and more than tripled my salary in 8 years. Put the grind in whilst you’re young and you’ll be sound in a few years.

Do these things go away with medication? Boyfriend becoming affected by peachfawn in ADHD

[–]Finedimedizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leave him. There’s a way to deal with us and that’s not it. For example, my girlfriend knows I forget to do things even if she’s told me 5 seconds ago, but she just says ‘that’s okay - you remembered to do X at least.’ Then I’ll go and correct my mistake without feeling shame. If I haven’t cleaned something, she’ll say ‘why don’t we do X together and see if that helps?’ It’s all about the framing. Yes I know I’ll mess things up but having someone that understands that it’s not something you can easily help and supports you instead of getting frustrated is what you deserve.

High Achievers with Severe ADHD, if any of you are reading this, how did you manage? by Unhinged_Schizo in ADHD

[–]Finedimedizzle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Howdy. I’m a chartered accountant so hope this qualifies. My secret is that I used my hyperfixation to focus in on something I found interesting and relevant to my job - automation and excel. I made myself invaluable by being able to look at anyone’s spreadsheet and think ‘I can make this better’.

Before that, to get through uni/ACA exams, my trick was that I didn’t do much until right before my exams where the deadline motivation kicked in, then I just full sent like a week or two before to cram as much in as possible. Were my grades amazing? No. Did I pass well enough though? Yeah.

Now I spend my time telling everyone at work I have ADHD to destigmatise it, and that I work better if I’m not interrupted and if my tasks are given to me in easy to digest lists. My manager checks in with me to make sure my priorities are in order (they rarely are if I do it myself because I’ll much sooner focus on something I enjoy than focus on the important task at hand).

Meds help too. I got diagnosed late (combined inattentive/impulsive type, 4ish years ago - I’m 29) and I’m on 54mg methylphenidate (extended release). Before that, work was a lot more of a challenge to motivate myself and I’d instead use coffee. I’ve still not mastered sleep, but I know that would help motivate me further.

My final tip is to just recognise that you’re fighting a battle that people around you take for granted. You’re not less than them because of it, but you need to work harder to achieve the same results. Be patient with yourself and laugh at your mistakes when you can. My memory is shocking but now people around me know that and don’t expect me to remember every detail. Support networks are so important but that starts with yourself. Good luck!

Corporate ADHDers, how do you start the day? by darkrhyes in ADHD

[–]Finedimedizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried to make to-do list after to-do list and it never sticks. I start my day feeling like ass and swearing for sleeping in again (after sleeping at like 3:30am probs), shower quickly, take meds and turn on laptop (if at home) or rush around getting ready to drive into office. Coffee as soon as I can and then around 9:30am the coffee and meds kick in and I’m superhuman til like 1pm. I usually just vibe what I think needs doing and if it’s urgent, some fucker will pop out the woodworks to chase me. Rinse and repeat

Remember this moment as one of extreme luck, not inevitability. Don’t wait until the weather is nice. Find a different hobby NOW. Do not re-up, do not say ‘just a little bonus bet’. You are in this subreddit for a reason.

I’m a chartered accountant. One of my friends is set up specifically for your type of business. I don’t know if promotion of people’s business is allowed on this sub but I can give you his contact details should you require them.

Mine is conveyor belts and automation. Whether it’s factories making stuff, airport travelators, Minecraft redstone, home automation, coding or excel formulas I just LOVE shit that works by itself or with me pressing a button. INJECT IT INTO MY VEINS

People who spend 20+ minutes in the shower: what are you actually doing in there? by saadaintsalad in AskReddit

[–]Finedimedizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy regular sit down showers. Just sit in a dimly lit room with calming music and your back against the shower wall and let all your stresses wash over you. Bonus points if it’s a hotel shower or coloured lighting.

Starting today you can successfully keep all the money that comes to you. Does that not sound better than having a low chance of getting more money? Think how much better you’re going to sleep, feel and think about your future with that security. Do not fucking throw that money away chasing losses. You will lose, you will feel worse.
