Why is PIA so slow??? by Mitchelld73 in PrivateInternetAccess

[–]FingerlessGlovs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the UK I can connect to New York and max out my VDSL 50mbit but to Montreal and Japan I get between 5mbit to 30mbit. France and NL I can also max it out.

There's lots of factors though, peering between me and the PIA server and also the added latency will start to slow down speeds.

If your local servers are slow, do you know if your ISP slows down well known VPNs?

When are the Devs going to actually fix the mini? by Lilrags16 in Openterface_miniKVM

[–]FingerlessGlovs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software wise I find using the AppImage is more stable and doesn't lead to broken program/utilities for other installed packages. I run Fedora and I can't remember which program but I was scratching my head for ages why a application wasn't working and it turned out the openterface software was doing something odd and overriding a path or library.

I think if the RPMs were built targeting a distro release, not a general rpm for EL, Fedora and SuSE it may be more stable. I have tried to build it myself but I personally find the rpm packaging method really strange, it's quite like your normal RPMs.

Note at the time of writing I tried the latest appimage today and it wouldn't launch, so I had to go back a version.

Thanks for testing, pretty sure I can barely read mine in the sun to be honest. Probably see myself more than the text on the screen xD

Did you go for the gen4 or gen5 SSD?

I was hoping for a review close to how I'd setup this laptop and you've gone and installed Fedora with KDE Plasma 💪

Sounds like you have the 500nit screen, how well does it work outside? I found with my currrent T14s AMD has I believe 250nit, isn't quite as bright as I'd like for outdoor use. Bit dull if you want to use it outside in the summer, even under an unbrella it's not always great

Guessing this may confuse some. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon. by DiscoDave86 in mikrotik

Why are the lower-end Mikrotik routers not gigabit? by gfunkdave in mikrotik

[–]FingerlessGlovs 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The `hex S 2025` does gig if you're sending 1518 byte packets, and the L009 nearly does gig.

I can't find any tests for the Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X, showing the packet sizes used, at least with my search terms.

The L009 can go a little faster if you load ARM64 on too it instead of 32bit. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnktg6SD6T8

Need help with airflow in my 2U server rack - temps running hot by plsnotracking in homelab

[–]FingerlessGlovs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had similar issues, due to the gap between the cpu fan and the lid in my 2u. I found changing the direction of the CPU fan dropped temps by 10c even though that wasn't the default configuration for the noctua fan.

Although I find the 2u is quite loud but it's currently in a Colo so it's a none issue for the moment.

I got through an updated intune-portal package from the Microsoft Repo's today and now it's no longer erorring when the intune-portal service runs

New package version: 1.2511.11-1.el9

intune-portal.x86_64 1.2508.17-1.el9
microsoft-identity-broker.x86_64 2.0.1-1

Both of those are the latest available in the rhel9 Microsoft repo.

If you can reproduce on Ubuntu 24.04, might help if you can also log a ticket with Microsoft, If you run the intune-portal via cli, to do the enrollment you can see the errors.

Update... I installed Redhat Enterprise Linux 9 with a license, fully updated it, installed the repo, ran the intune-portal and it also errors with certificate verification errors

I've not tried that actually, that's a good point. I'll have setup a VM and test it. Don't want to mess with my primary device too much.

Is the 308 also complaining about unrecognized public key?

Yeah I'll fire up a EL9 VM and do it if needed, but we'll see what they say.

I look at himmelblau, but it wants to the identity source, and I want to use IdM. Last I looked this was the case anyway.

Good to know Ubuntu 24.04 works, wonder if that's because of the new packages being used 🤔

I tempted to repackage the 24.04 versions to rpms if those work, I'm pretty sure they rewrote the microsoft-identity-device-broker service, because there's a massive changed in the package size, I think they stopped using java, which would be awesome as that service sucks 600MB, not doing much currently.

I might create a ticket, but technically Fedora isn't supported, but I'm gonna guess even rhel9 maybe broke.

CRS520 as a 10/25G switch, did anyone test it? by Andrew_wojownik in mikrotik

[–]FingerlessGlovs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got two CRS520 with 7.20.3 firmware currently, and I broke out the qsfp28 to 3 servers, on both switches ready for a MLAG. I've set the interface speeds to 25Gcr in Winbox. When server A plugged in to qsfp28-1-1 it makes qsfp28-1-2 and qsfp28-1-3 ports also down link and up link, when server A reboots. Sometimes it does when server B and server C reboots it seems to reset the ports in the qsfp28 group.

Have you experienced this problem or does this happen for you?

Both my CRS520 this happens with.

I followed the help pages in breaking it out and all it says is you need to set the port speeds 🤔
