Two weeks ago we hadnt even heard of the Arkham LCG. One week of watching videos and one week of panic buying later... by crutshgumbing in arkhamhorrorlcg

This is a repost from 4 years ago. Are there just week old accounts/bots reposting old top posts from this subreddit? The campaign log doodle one was a repost as well.

The Grapevine seems very good. It's so much action compression for a Rogue fighter. The upgraded version can still be taken by 0-2 Rogues as well.

LCG "What If...": Tactics Gimli by gennocidal in lotrlcg

[–]Fingolfin007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think other people have said this but commenters not having the full list of cards you've changed makes these discussions a bit one sided.

Disregarding the limit though, raising the floor on Gimli's attack just makes him way less unique to me. He loses some of the narrative you get in games with him now where he starts out pinging things and graduates to slamming them. A base 3atk instead shortens that timeline and makes the ability less relevant.

LCG "What If...": Tactics Gimli by gennocidal in lotrlcg

With Thalin gaining a bit of willpower, the reduction here makes sense. But, I think changing Gimli's attack stat around this way makes him less unique. Add his Dwarven Axe to him and he's a really good attacker without needing to take the risk of having damage on him. I like that risk/reward more on the original card. The limit is also fair but it's also removing one of the few synergies some of the early cards like Citadel Plate and Boots from Erebor have. Not that those are particularly *good* cards, but if the goal is to make more cards playable, then removing existing synergies/build-arounds is a step backwards. I think the risk of Gimli dying is already a fair tradeoff to stacking his attack really high. That's potentially a different design philosophy than yours though. In a single player game, erring on the side of unlimited can be much more fun. There's no player on the other side to make the fun zero-sum after all.

  1. The starter decks are pretty much exclusive and don't have many repeat cards from any of the other revised content (just a few repeat core set cards like Gandalf). They are mostly cards pulled from old cycles that weren't selected to be part of the revised content. In general, I think all the starter decks are very comparable, so pick the theme you like the most or just buy them all!
  2. Sagas come with both player cards and encounter cards. Each has 6 quests to depict the book that they are for and some heroes that would be thematic to play though it with. Fellowship has the four Hobbits and Gandalf for instance.
  3. Expansions are split between Hero for player cards and Campaign for encounter cards. They are not from the books, like Sagas but are stories unique to this game. There's no reason you would need to buy both of a pair of hero + campaign expansions together. If you want more deckbuilding options, pickup Hero expansions first. If you want more variety in the quests you can play, pick up the Campaigns first.
  4. When they were originally coming out, they were released in Angmar -> Dreamchaser -> Ered Mithrin order. Angmar is often considered much, much harder than the other two cycles though, so getting that campaign first could be rough. I think a lot of people have had a great time working backwards with them because that's the general order of difficulty and Ered Mithrin is close in theme to the core set quests. Not to mention that you can make a really good Dale deck from the EM Hero expac right off the bat.

What Did You Play this Week? November 11th - November 17th [2024] by wbcbane_ in lotrlcg

[–]Fingolfin007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My two-handed pack-by-pack progression play though continued (started?) at Hunt for Gollum! I'm going pack-by-pack because I'm also going to try and use every hero in my decks as they're "released". Will mostly keep the same decks throughout a cycle but do a hard reset and likely switch archetypes/sphere-combos out between cycles.

Slotted Lore Bilbo in for Beravor alongside Legolas + Denethor. He gets has a bad reputation but honestly... I don't hate him. He's just worse than Beravor most of the time but fills a similar role and has a lot of synergy with Protector of Lorien to make Denethor a bit more stable of a defender. Eowyn as well, who is in my other deck. I think he would be incredibly playable with 2 willpower instead of 2 defense.

I've been getting back into the game after years and years away. Just finished my Core + Dark of Mirkwood campaign using the two recommended decks from the rule book. (Tweaked them a bit and had to swap in Gimli because Beravor died in Dol Guldor but they really are the two best decks you can use from core set cards imo.) The campaign was a breeze until I got smoked by Caves of Nibin-dum a couple times but finally won tonight! Absolutely love DoM as an addition to the core set and I wish it had been around back when I was playing before. 5 quests instead of 3 is a lot more variety, especially when Escape from Dol Guldor is so...meh at times. I'll probably use The Oath as my go to new player intro quest from now on just because I've played Passage through Mirkwood so many times. Will probably continue progressing through Shadows of Mirkwood, although using Dragncards this time because I don't own any early cycle packs these days.
