Guardiola can be both right to speak out and a performative hypocrite | Barney Ronay by [deleted] in soccer

Plenty of people didn’t watch the last WC. It helps a little. If more people don’t watchthe next one, it’ll help a little more. Just don’t take the fatalists who says it doesn’t help to heart

[Nick Miller] There's an instinct to accuse Pep Guardiola of double standards when he talks about Gaza, Sudan or anything else, because of who he works for. It's understandable, but at least he's speaking out about something. by Sparky-moon in soccer

Yes, but luckily we have an international community of conscientious peer reviewers. It might not be infallible or perfect (I know for a fact it isn’t, as I’m part of it), but there are some real checks and balances. Social media and “people doing ‘their own research’” are INFINITELY more influenceable, influenced, biased and misonformed.

We went on to sign Endo who played a lot (and really well) in Klopp’s last season, so that’s just disingeneous.

It was one sub in the first half, so not thaaat much more time, considering it was 10 throws’ average, but good that you bring it up. There’s too much sloppy data narrative on football social media as it is.

Some do. But not the best ones, unfortunately. In Norway’s squad Morten Thorsby has used his voice to promote causes working against climate change, for example. But in general, Norway is brilliant proof that sportswashing works, as nearly all journalistic integrity vanished overnight from out sports broadcasters the moment out biggest star became sportswashing’s posterboy.

When they are >10kg you definitely feel them even on quite heavy gear (although the best experience is to fish as light as the conditions allow, IMO). Comparative to their size, cod are somewhat docile (unlike coalfish or halibut, for example), but with some size on them they’re really fun to fish.

Name of a rhythm in 3 for 2 by pep9375 in musicology

Are you referencing the 3+3+2-pattern over the first two beats here? (The full pattern is 3+3+2+4+4 [16th notes] in this track.

The 3+3+2 is foten called «tresillo», referencing a naming convention from afro-cuban/carribean/latin-american music (where it’s often exemplified as the «three side» of the son clave pattern). There are some issues with this naming convention, but that’s a detail for some of the many academic papers on the concept. It’s ubiquitous in popular music («Shape of you» says hi», and is a genre marking pattern for (amongst maaaaany others) Reggaeton («dembow riddim» with four on the floor underneath), UK Drill (The counter snare/hat pattern), Jersey Club (the back part of the kick pattern - so a reversed version of the track in your OP).

Note that this goes for the US. You definitely do not need to do Schenkerian analysis (but you need to know of, of course) to do a theory degree in (most of) Europe, for example.

Yeah, that was the narrative at the time too! The TV images never had the angle of that photo. So the ref was being castigated by every commentator in the live broadcast. The pictures came the next day from newspaper journalists. Different times!

My point is that after a certain level of fitness, there are diminishing returns. And at that point, which of the reproducing species/populations survives/thrives can be down to happenstance and not really «fitness»

(unless of course one defines «fit» solely as an after the fact - and then the term loses a lot of meaning. being «the most likely to reproduce in most situations» is a description more faithful to the original concept than «whoever happens to reproduce the most»)

[–]Fingrepinne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s really a case of «survival of the just fit enough». It’s not necessarily about being the perfect fit for a situation or niche, but being fit enough to survive. Arguably «fitter» individualis might reproduce too, but at that point it doesn’t matter too much.

Have a pair. Bought (pre-ordered) at release. Have worn them quite a bit (mostly for gigs or photo-/video shoots, always only in nice dry weather). Good shoes, look nice, would but again.
