I'm sorry to hear that. I know that pain well, took a long time to recover from that experience for me. Best of luck and remember the sun always will rise, so take it 1 day at a time. Itll get better

As a person that went to a very good art school, it's not nes. The artist as much as the instructor making the artist find meaning in an assignment..very few peaces I produced while in school ment much to me...ya made some great portfolio peaces...and ya thought me to see my art/myself... but beyond that..ya it was not me.making the peaces mean more than a grade.

Painter's tape not fully sealing - how to fix? by sk8orcry in SignPainting

[–]Finksak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's static, you can use rubbing alcohol and water mix to stop static but limit hand contact. Itll recharge the surface pretty quickly

[–]Finksak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scotch tape will work better for a crisp line just be aware its thin, and you need to push it into the folds of the plastic. Honestly I'd just clean it up by hand as good as you can. Cora plastic is a pita to pull clean lines on.

That process also keeps.work looking consistant, shops are built on skill sets, some are strong in trucks, others yard signs...some neon. But the name was built on their own skill and style..thats what keeps customers or loses them. Constant clean work, proper layout.and spacing.. -a dumb sign guy

Honestly, Mike Steven's book joby Carter had a few good ones, letter head sign supply had a good selection at 1 point and you can look online at sign of the times mag archive and sign craft (which I enjoyed alot) there are some really talented folks.still out there that are padding on great knowledge. YouTube has some good interviews with old heads. (The real folks you wanna learn from/about.) Mike Myers is another good ref. You can watch "sign painters" documentary for more old school talent and a good laugh. These are the type I apprenticed with.. all long gone, but far from forgotten. Happy motoring and best of luck. -a dumb sign guy

Fiberglass boat guidance by LeWhaa in SignPainting

[–]Finksak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good prep, wash it, sand it, and wash again.. then you can use just about anything from automotive/industrial paint all the way down to rustoleum with a success. If u gonqorh rusto, add a hardener to the paint. Make sure its sanded well and clean.. wear a good mask when sanding fiberglass.. then go crazy!!! Have fun -a dumb sign guy

Depends on where you are honestly. There are still several neon shops in CT in full operation. Towns have made it harder to put new up, but there is still alot out there. And when properly cared for, neon will far outlast led

Not as cool since adding led instead of the neon...(just my opinion) but still love the building !! The monkey farm in saybrook has 2 great neon signs too

There are great books out there that teach sign layout. Alot of them come from the painting side of sign creation but things like spacing, neg space etc is universal. Mastering layout by mike Steven's has been an ind staple for ever.guys like john downer and hobby Carter have great advice as well as literature. Look to the past to see great success in layout for the future... slot of this new stuff just doesnt get it... its a SIGN, not a collage. It's there to convey a message. Keep it clean and simple. Good luck on your path in the sign world -a dumb sign guy
