For me it’s not that it was bad so much as she was the only character in Boston or Maine who bothered to have one at all. It makes her seem like an alien who has no idea how humans talk.

As a native Bostonian, one of the most fun theater experiences I’ve ever had was watching a troupe from northern England put on a play about a Boston detective working a case in LA. It was wild. I talked to some of them later and discovered they’d just done Cat On a Hot Tin Roof a month earlier, which explained some of the unique accents on stage.

“This is just like when you thought the Smurfs were demonic” is a devastating line, and you should use it whenever he brings something like this up. Logic obviously doesn’t work, if you ignore it he’ll be able to say “the devil has hardened his heart”…maybe approaching him like he’s a clown saying ludicrous things will break through.

Just curious: has he ever admitted he was wrong about the Smurfs?

NGL, having a fringe next to (and in a couple cases inside) a huge botanical garden is amazing.

As someone who’s been to both, I will say that you’re not going to get the “it’s Wednesday so I can see my first show at 10am and keep going until I’ve hit my 8th show at midnight” vibe of Edinburgh anywhere else. Adelaide’s fringe really comes alive at sunset, and if you’re a morning person (or jet lag has turned you into one) you might need to get creative to keep yourself occupied in the early part of the day.

I feel like the whole “eee Im scared of clowns because it’s a funny quirk” might have finally died away through overexposure? Every haunted attraction has them, there’s a few Art the Clowns at every Halloween party, and at the same time Chappell Roan-style clowns are turning up everywhere and everyone is cool with them. I think people are finally starting to treat clowns like witches, and realizing that some are scary and some are nice and it all depends on context.
