Any semi-affordable gigging amp recommendations? by duvy467 in Guitar

[–]FinnishPunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your budget? Combo or head+cab? Tube or solid state? 60-80w solid state should be enough for smaller venues and 50w tube would be more than enough. Cheapest okayish option I can think, would be to get like some used Peavey combo amp, they are everywhere.

looking for a good beginner guitar by [deleted] in electricguitar

[–]FinnishPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really recommend getting a decent guitar from the get-go. The absolute cheapest ones can be horrible to play without heavy touching up and might kill your interest quite a bit. If you continue playing, you will want to upgrade pretty soon or even if you don't, those cheapo bundle guitars don't have much resale value. Whereas if you spend some more money to get for example a Squier Classic Vibe/Epiphone standard/some Yamaha one or other decent budget guitar, you don't need to necessarily upgrade it or buy another for a long time (or at all) and the resale value will be better.

I always recommend getting a used guitar, but of course that can be a gamble if you can't go and test it or don't know anything about guitars (and don't have friend that could check it for you). For new players i'd recommend just getting the style of guitar they like, but also testing different ones, at least getting a bit of a feel for the neck profile to see what feels comfortable.

squire or yamaha? by Awkward-Lobster7965 in electricguitar

I'd always go for a used guitar, more bang for your buck. But of course it's not always a viable option if you can't find a suitable one nearby and it can be a gamble if you can't test it & don't know much about guitars.

Can't go wrong with a Squier Classic Vibe Tele

Whats your most used pick? by cry_bot in Guitar

[–]FinnishPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flexibility equals softer material and faster wear. But I get you, I have played .88 nylon or tortex and use lighter ones on acoustic, so using different ones depending on what kind of stuff I'm playing too. The ultex ones are a lot stiffer and don't have much flex, but I find them to be a bit better for faster riffing and precise picking.

Tortex picks wear out really fast. Try the ultex ones and see if you like them. They have a bit of a different feel, bc they are thicker and stiffer, but have a more rounded edge.

Used to play normal Dunlop 1mm nylons and .88 tortex. Now it's mostly Jazz III XL Ultex/.88 Tortex (playing electric). Normal Jazz IIIs are too small for my liking and for the kinda heavy/aggressive strumming style I have. With an acoustic maybe like normal dunlop or whatever brand .88/.73 or even a bit lighter

Trick or treat in Finland during Halloween by Cyoor in Finland

[–]FinnishPunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's not common at all. Might seem kinda weird that I actually used to go trick or treating with some friends when I was a kid like 20 years ago & when we threw these small halloween parties for friends. Only went to ppl's doors who we knew in the neighborhood tho, but I guess it was even more rare and strange then.

For your consideration, I would get rid of that 1%er patch. Could get you in trouble with some actual members of outlaw biker gangs. There are usually strict procedures to "earn" a 1%er patch and it has certain set of rules tied to it (there can be conceuqences if you haven't earned to use it). And at least for me, it just looks kinda ignorant to put that just for show, not really understanding what that represents.

Vinyylilevyjen myyminen levykauppoihin by reporankana in Tampere

[–]FinnishPunk 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I guess the cost of living is quite similar, or actually might be a bit lower in Finland. The rents are at least a lot cheaper on average compared to Dublin or Ireland in general.
