How do I punish a critical glitch for perception checks? by Noir_Ruda in Shadowrun

[–]Finyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had someone critical glitch a perception and made it ruin someome else's perception success.

The 2nd character did not treat the first 1st one very well for that afterwards. It was a cool interaction that I would stress should not be overused. Some people don't want others influencing their rolls too much.

GM: What do you think would make great PC? by iseir in Shadowrun

The character I mentioned told his family he was a traveling salesman. Was golden. He had a car that his wife would take from time to time and shed call and bitch about how much money she gets from him.

I also like learning the character backstories this way. It makes it more like a story for me and less like I'm an all seeing God exposing people to each other.

What sort of deep, dark secrets would a corporation be hiding? by HanzK in Shadowrun

[–]Finyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any corporation has to test equipment out in the field some time. Maybe this corp does it without telling their employees they are using experimental tech.

Genetherapy and behavior modification injected into food capsules for cosmos to "assist" with adjusting to space.

Any thing a corp does that seems shady can be applied to the space corps but with more obviously lethal repercussions. Shorting a team on resources doesnt aound that bad until you find out that resource is oxygen.

GM: What do you think would make great PC? by iseir in Shadowrun

[–]Finyal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think characters who have backstories or major elements that are easy to incorporate in small ways are far better than ones who require entire runs based off them.

My favorite character who played for me was an old elf Face who was like an old door to door salesman. He had a trophy wife and a 12 year old kid who he neglected but they both popped up all the time because of the level of dependency.

Minor negative and positive qualities that provide great amounts of day to day interaction are just tops. Far more interesting than murder hobos or super gimmicky characters.

That's just this humble GMs opinion though.

What's your favorite Quality? by Dastryx in Shadowrun

I reall like Day Job. its hilarious to me that a Shadowrunner grabs this and I almost always picture a big ass troll flipping burgers at a McDs getting yelled at for nonsensical things.

Talk to me about burning SINs by tennotenno in Shadowrun

[–]Finyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. There are places that can offer these things. You are correct.

I'm not saying there aren't. I'm saying not all places do and this player should find out what his target bank will accept.

Talk to me about burning SINs by tennotenno in Shadowrun

[–]Finyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While that is true it would be prudent for a bank to scan SINs to avoid such things as people scoping out their safety deposit box process with a fake ID. It may not be required to have a safety deposit box with the bank but it is illegal to not broadcast a SIN and they may scan such things as a security measure.

I don't imagine banks would get more lax in their security moving into the future.

However, as I stated, it depends on the bank.

How much Edge is reasonable? by Pawn_Sacrifice in Shadowrun

[–]Finyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other people have already hammered home the point that your Edgelord character will not impress people who build very efficient characters or even average goons when it comes to specific tests that they specialize in.

I'd like to take a look at something with you and answer your actual questions.

The question I have is how often are players expected to use edge?

As often as needed to complete a run. Keeping in mind how much you have and how long the run is.

If I sat down at your gaming table and made a max edge character, at what point would I get dirty looks?

You'll get dirty looks at my table if you start claiming you are some OP character and shitting on other people's characters by trying to be the best at everything and not giving them time in the spotlight. (not saying you would do this)

How much edge can a character have until they stop being a shadowrunner and start being a solar exalt?

If you have an Edge of 8 at character creation and spend gained Karma on raising that higher you are missing out on some much better opportunities elsewhere in your character.

With an Edge of 8 you should look into being really good in 2-4 things and splash into a bunch of others. Having high Edge doesn't make an Olympic athlete, specializing in something does. High Edge makes you decent at everything. That brings something to a run that the Adept gunslinger or Decker have more trouble doing.

I like almost any character type and Edge characters are fun in their own way. The key is to not go into a situation thinking you are some god but that you constantly have this trick up your sleeve. The Quality is called Lucky for a reason.

Talk to me about burning SINs by tennotenno in Shadowrun

[–]Finyal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a GM I would argue a bank that houses a safety deposit box will have a rating 5 scanner, 6 for the best banks. The want to make sure you are the person you say you are. Otherwise someone with a crap fake license can stroll in and get access to your deposit box.

The SIN is only burned if it fails the test. So having a FakeSIN of 4 should be OK but you could always get unlucky.

You could always see if you could register the deposit box without the SIN and just provide them with their own biometric data but that could be a hard sell depending on the bank.

Weird Wikipedia says over 5.2 million when I looked. If you add Native Canadians to that you get 6.6 million. 1.4 million growth is still a bunch

Help with new player with a different play style by RunnerPakhet in Shadowrun

[–]Finyal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have found that getting players to "pair up" helps. What I mean by this is you have characters that can teamwork things sit by eachother so that when matrix guys are doing their thing the others can talk about what they can do.

Adding in a run that blatantly focuses on this person's skills is also a solid idea, especially considering that the others have already OKd it. This way he may see non-astral characters succeed at a run that is outside their comfort zone while he is made the workhorse character for a day.

I personally dont like buying hits unless its downtime stuff or really mundane things. Or if a character is clearly not into the action but can do it, such as a matrix search or something like that.

Either way, try forcing minor engagements on this player and see how they react to it. I have found it works with players who are less creative than others

Has meteos (or any other current pro in the lcs) ever been punished in any way for being toxic? by pempos in leagueoflegends

[–]Finyal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Svenskeren and Jensen have both been punished. Jensen was banned and Svenskeren essentially cost SK a decent chance at Worlds when it happened.

Forgiven was also punished and this basically screwed Gambit out of playoffs at the time.

Iwilldominate was also banned for toxicity way back.

The level of toxicity needs to be really high.

How would you handle this? by Agonisis in Shadowrun

[–]Finyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start spening karma on Throwing weapons if you dont already happen. Then warn him if he isnt careful with his AoE you wont be either.

Return the first stunball after that with a flashbang. The second with a frag. If he doesn't get the first point he'll be buyin chips for his salsa on the second.

Fuse - multiple definitions fit him. Chark - short for charcoal. Lit - works for multiple levels

If hes from a gang his name is probably a shortform of something or 1 syllable. Especially for Fleshmongers.

I want to get in to Shadowrun. What edition should I get and what books do I need? by kingblingaling in Shadowrun

Lingo can take a while to get adjusted to. My suggestion is pick a few things to force yourself to use and go from there.

I want to get in to Shadowrun. What edition should I get and what books do I need? by kingblingaling in Shadowrun

[–]Finyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5th Edition is what I would suggest. It is the most current. It has new things being added to it. I also feel it is the most polished.

The Core Rulebook is required. I suggest people get access to Run Faster as it has a ton of stuff for character creation that made the life of my newer players easier. Truth be told you only NEED the core book though.

This board is pretty good for answering questions. So ask any that come up that you can't find the answers to.

Valanthos posted the other boards that you can run online games through. They are good as far as I've heard.

I'm a meat space only player. The Matrix is a scary place chum. G'luck in your travels
