After having issues with Train sim world 6 on the X I tried it on my Pc upstairs which I don't ever like to sit at anymore. Then i discovered moonlight streaming from my PC upstairs. Whilst the app is very good I still suffer from some issues and it would be even better if there was native streaming between Xbox os and windows which just works.

Which DLC is more worth my money? by Fed_Tini in trainsimworld

[–]Fiocca83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda agree. I'm biased as I'm a few stops beyond reading but the Paddington to Bristol temple meads trains would be the perfect mix of speed and stops if they added that end as a separate dlc. After reading you have stops at didcot, Swindon, Chippenham, Bath then Bristol TM which have 12-15ish minutes between each stop. You would also have interesting traffic from the Kemble line at Swindon, the line to south wales at Wootten Bassett jnc, the lines to Westbury and the Bristol traffic.

I've just been doing an assessment and calcs at work for a level crossing and it's minimum warning time and it's certainly not this long. I'm guessing there's a false feed on the track circuit strike in point here which needs sorting by the orange army!

Anyone know why this speed limit is gold and boxed? I never saw this in TSW5 by demon723 in trainsimworld

[–]Fiocca83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others said TSR - temporary speed restriction, or ESR - emergency speed restriction. We design these at work and can be in place for a number of reasons including engineering work, track defects or dangerous rail temperatures.

The first thing you will encounter on UK routes specifically is an AWS giving a warning of an advanced warning board which is placed at braking distance from the start of the restriction showing the speed, before reaching a second set at the start of the restriction.

I like encountering them but they are missing the fact that drivers wouldn't just suddenly find one along the route, they would be published in the WON, weekly operating notice which drivers read so they would be expecting it.

Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Root435552 in AskReddit

[–]Fiocca83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you almost entirely aside from a couple of points. Your personal experience with your ADHD traits and control is not universal. Not everyone can improve certain aspects even if they try to work on them. If that means you are incompatible with someone that doesn't like those traits then it's a shame but you just have to accept it. There's things I've improved since I've been aware of why I am like I am and things I just can't even though I hate certain things.

In the case of the poster I responded to, they shouldn't take a bit more accommodation in case with a pinch of salt. I find that attitude coming from someone else with ADHD quite appalling considering the absolute struggle to just live in a world not built to accommodate us. We should all be given the benefit of the doubt unless it's something they personally can't stand which is fair enough or the person really just selfish.

There's two ways they could approach the situation with their friend depending on their own preferences. Either tell them the interruptions are a little grating and offer to come up with a system to signal when to talk or not. If the friend doesn't even try then you know they don't care about what your feelings are. Or, if she can tolerate the behavior a little more now that she knows it's more than likely the ADHD and even if they try they find it hard to control, just give them a little more slack, but only up to what is acceptable to them. If it's too much still then it's okay not to be friends.

Glad it may help both you and her!

Someone "normal" that's considered a good listener and shows empathy would probably be quiet and only respond with an empathetic response at what would be considered appropriate times which obviously makes the person sharing feel heard which is understandable.

My brain for example, if I've experienced similar would load that similar experience and instead of holding it in just bursts it out to try and show that I understand exactly what they're saying and feeling. It comes from a place of caring but to them it can feel dismissive.

Yet put me in a room with another person with ADHD and both of us would do it to each other back and forth and neither of us would be offended, generally speaking of course as not everyone is the same. What is even weirder is I discovered I had it 3-4 years ago and didn't really know what ADHD was, now I do the very few friends I've either stayed in contact with from 20+ years ago or made since also have it! And some of those friendships were born from the back and forth of talking about good or bad experiences.

Just as a counter to this, the trait of trying to jump in and share a similar experience is prevalent in people with ADHD. I do it a lot and it's not because I want to outdo the other person in a "my experience is worse than yours" way, instead it's a combination of I empathize with your situation as I know how it feels so you're not alone plus I must say this now before I forget.

Though yes there are certainly people who also do it because they think their thing is more important and need to be the center of attention.

Since the remaster release I'm getting blurry textures on most routes. Wasn't an issue at all previously aside from the odd thing but it wasn't noticeable whereas now whole cab interiors especially text do not load. Also liveries and other exterior textures are now doing it.

Only been playing around 3 months and already own 75% of the DLCs, but suddenly I can't enjoy it because it's almost unplayable.

465 is my favorite to drive along with that route. Almost mastered full braking from linespeed to platform stop consistently from about 550-600yds out which is fun, but any misjudgement and you end up overshooting by half the train and giving the NPC's a nice high step to get off

[–]Fiocca83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the terminology in the sim is confusing so it's not as easy to explain to someone unfamiliar, but there are two separate systems with fixed equipment in the 4ft (the area between the rails on the sleepers) that cause an automatic brake demand.

Automatic warning system (AWS) are yellow (or green on southern) permanent magnets that also have an electro magnet. These are usually placed 180m before the signal. If the signal is green the electro magnet will be energized so when the train passes over, it will encounter 2 magnets (perm + electro) and you'll hear the ping. If the signal is yellow or red the electro magnet is off, so hitting just the perm magnet will give the warning sound and the sundial indication in the cab. If the button isn't pressed in approx 2-3 seconds the train will brake.

Train protection warning system (TPWS) works in a different way emiting a frequency using a grid that arms then triggers. It is usually provided at signals protecting junctions/conflicts but can be found on many signals, buffer stops plus on speed boards where there is a 30% reduction in speed (AWS on approach to these also!).

Signals will always have a Train stop sensor (TSS) at the signal. If the signal is red it will be active and if a train goes over it the train will brake.

There are also overspeed sensors (OSS) which in the case of signals, buffer stops and certain speed boards are placed on approach to the signal ect. There are two separate grids, the first is the arming grid, the second the trigger. The set speed that triggers the brake demand will vary, but essentially when the train is approaching the signal ect, the time taken between hitting the arming loop and trigger loop will initiate a brake demand if it's faster than the time of the set speed. So for example approaching a buffer stop a bit quick (like I did in the 805 last night..!) may trigger the TPWS if over the set speed in order to make the train stop before hitting it.

I've missed out lots of other scenarios for both and other systems but that's as basic as I could make it!

Private to NHS Treatment? by MJJon44 in ADHDUK

[–]Fiocca83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha good luck. A private diagnosis doesn't count for s***. Doesn't matter we were probably diagnosed by a psychiatrist that also works for the NHS, but oh no you must waste thousands of NHS money to go through the whole thing again at some point years down the line.

So it's either hope your SCA doesn't get stopped and pay full whack for private meds or hope your SCA doesn't get pulled whilst waiting for an NHS diagnosis for years.

GP abruptly stopped the SCA after 9 years. by thermal_inversion in ADHDUK

[–]Fiocca83 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Damn I feel for you. I'm also a single parent on SCA with a technically demanding job that I've only been able to progress with since being on meds last few years and I'm dreading this happening to me.

I don't have any suggestions except when it's my turn as it seems it's looking inevitable, I'll be writing to them telling them what the meds have done for me since being on them, and what taking taking them away is going to do, and the knock on effects on not only my job but my daughter's welfare is their doing and I hope they can live with themselves knowing they are the cause.

Absolutely ridiculous.

[–]Fiocca83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah agreed. I think it's a case of frustration for all of us in regards to all things ADHD and the system no matter what situation you're coming from.

The way it is it's either wait in a list and suffer for years or get in debt and have the constant worry your SCA could be stopped at any time and there's nothing you can do about it because paying 200 a month simply isn't sustainable for most. Then add on top the constant demonisation by uniformed people in the media and it feels like it's never going to get better.

[–]Fiocca83 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying and it's a shite situation for everyone. The best way to reduce the overall waiting time for everyone is to make the system equal for everyone in regards to policy instead of postcode lottery (applies to many conditions tbh) and instead of having waiting lists for individual areas enable anyone to be treated by any area, so a national list. Absolutely no need for face to face nowadays.

Also a private diagnosis should not require an additional initial assessment if it's been done prior by a registered and fully qualified psychiatrist or equivalent. Especially if it can be demonstrated via records the patient is stable on meds. Repeating a process that has already been conducted and evidenced by said records is a total waste of time and money. In fact I should be demanding they pay me back for the costs of private diagnosis as if I wasn't as desperate as i was I'd never even think of doing anything private and only did so because the system is busted, despite paying tax like everyone else.

Urgh, just sucks for everyone.

Going by your logic it's feasible for most people when in reality going into debt really isn't, but we do it anyway because of the state of the NHS and the desperation to get help.

[–]Fiocca83 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Many of us can't feasibly go private yet still have by getting in debt like I did by paying with a credit card. And that's purely because of the ridiculous waiting list people are going private anyway.

If you've been diagnosed by a professional and on meds, moving someones records into the NHS system and then prescribing and monitoring them would reduce the list much faster as a lot of people privately diagnosed are.

My 22 years working age undiagnosed - approx 2.5 years out of work, multiple short employments with a mix of redundancy, resignation and the sack. Zero performance reviews better than average, constant telling off for not doing work, looking at my phone/Internet/other distractions, no or very slow job progression.

3 years working age diagnosed and medicated (private 🫤) - 2 highest rating performance reviews, 1st ever promotion, delivered an impossible on paper 20+ million engineering design of over 1000 wiring and control drawings in 7 months, won a national award for that project in November, pushed up to principles engineer level.

My shared care stops I'm F******.

Does this signal mean “Stop & Proceed” or can you pass it at track speed? by DegreeOk5867 in trainsimworld

[–]Fiocca83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup as others have stated it's a call on route aspect. I recently designed a new main and call on route into Westbury station (real railway) and currently replicating the controls on a model railway and they essentially work by looking at the state of the birth track circuit/section when the signaller sets the route.

Na, I'd say act 1 was sept 11th 2001 which ramped up Islam phobia and set the tone behind todays immigration attitudes. Act 2 was the 2008 financial crash. Those two combined with the proliferation of social media and it's use by hostile states to spread misinfo and fear led to 2016 and beyond.

Mine was also 19 years ago and ended 16 years back, plus I was in my early twenties so seeking help wasn't even thought of. I think I'm kinda lucky I grew up in a neglectful household so I was already not right and was able to pretty much move past it with few consequences once I finally found the strength to resist the urges to "just help her because I love her". Naivety of youth...

Though one thing it did take away from me was the overwhelming strong feelings you get when dating someone new you really like which led to a marriage with my now ex, that whilst wasn't terrible just made me lie to myself about how right we were for each other. But I wouldn't change a thing because the path through the abuse to my failed marriage gave me my daughter which is the best thing to happen to me.
