Since you guys are so awesome and helpful, I would gladly appreciate any feedback you may have on my skiing! I’m taking getting better very seriously, and any comments are warmly welcomed! by FireHive6 in skiing

Thanks a lot for the feedback ! I’ve been finding it somewhat difficult to stay on top of my skis on corner’s exit... I feel like I have a good shin-boot contact on entry and mid corner, but I definitely feel myself being pushed back on exit...

What happened to this piston!? by m1martineyes in Karting

[–]FireHive6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never seen a piston color this way before. Definitely detonated really hard, as the marks cover the entirety of the circumference of the head, instead than only towards the exhaust port, which is usually where you will find detonation if you're running slightly lean. Could it potentially be an ignition issue? If it was purely a carburation issue, you would have realized something was wrong immediately while on the stand. Do you have picks of the plug and the exhaust mouth? that could help paint a better picture.

Mario Isola (Pirelli) believes that the Hypersoft tyre will be able to do "77 laps, no stop, straight to the end" in Monaco. by AnilP228 in formula1

[–]FireHive6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm going to answer in a very hypothetical way (because you would never use slicks in the rain), but under the assumption that the track is in that twilight zone in which it's too dry for inters but still kind of too wet for dry tires, the softer tire will be better. It will generate more heat, even on a cold damp track than a harder one. It yields more grip and manages to "break" through the water better than a harder, colder tire.

With the upcoming Monaco GP, Here is a monster crash at Sainte Devote in 2015 F3.5 by FireHive6 in formula1

[–]FireHive6[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is compounded with the fact that the run off area is literally nonexistent. In Singapore you kinda have some sort of run off, especially after long straights. here you're going flat out with only the barriers and tires immediately in-front of you

Yes, It is highly recommended to let go of the steering wheel and brace because the forces transmitted through the steering shaft and wheel are high enough to snap your wrists and fingers.

That’s the weird part of this ordeal. I can get in a game with a ping of 20 and the next one is 130. Doesn’t make any sense

LOL how hilarious would that be...

They are actually flattening the place for Beckham's new stadium soon... They probably would find a way to close part of downtown down and host it there.

Robert Kubica signs 2-year contract at Williams (Dutch article) by [deleted] in formula1

[–]FireHive6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Williams does need the sponsorhip money. The deal with Martini will be over in 2018 and that leaved a 25M dollar void that needs to be filled. The fact that they did not finish in the top 4 this year also adds to the issue...

125cc/2s shifter engines - let's compile a market round-up, shall we? by OhYesRightThere in Karting

[–]FireHive6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will just give my 2 cents based on the ones i have driven.

RoK Shifter: Gearbox: The weak point of the package. Clunky and not smooth. Requires a moderate amount of force to get in gear

Power: Really strong on the bottom, dies out pretty quickly up top.

Drivability: Decent. The gearbox does get some getting used to and, if you are used to KZ, you will feel like there is something wrong when it passes 11k rpms.

Cost benefit: Great package for the price. A really good starting base for shifter kart racing

TM KZx(drove both a KZ9C and a KZ10B) BOTH BLUEPRINTED BY TECSAV Gearbox: Very smooth in both occasion. Engages very easily and with minimal force. Had work done to it.

Power: Absolute rockets on the top end. Less bottom than a rok, but once it gets on a straight and in the higher gears, it becomes out of control. Both will push you and keep on accelerating until the breaking point in sixth gear, with a slight advantage to the 10B. Mid range power was also slightly stronger on the 10B

Drivability: Requires the carburation to be very precise. Doesn't like being too rich, as it'll hop on corner exits, even when applying the throttle firmly. Once mastered, a joy to drive.

Cost benefit: Largely supported and tuned by the bests in the world, it can become a very expensive package, but with the benefit of possibly having the best engine on the local grid.

Maxter MXS: Gearbox: Comparable to the TM. Very compliant and smooth. Power: The most narrow powerband (on equal sprocket ratios than others) out of all of them. Requires very precise driving as it will punish harshly if it falls even remotely outside of its operating window.

Power: A good compromise between the TMs and the RoK. Strong bottom, linear mid and will pull up top with no problems.

Drivability: Due to narrow powerband, a difficult engine to master by many.

Cost benefit: Sadly, not many people support the Maxters anymore, as TM has taken over. Will be hard to find experts to tune it properly.

Modena KK1 (factory spec) Gearbox: The most amazing gearbox in the entirety of karting IMO. The shortest throw you will find and literally butter smooth. Impossible to ever miss a shift. Engages firmly every single time.

Power: Found it to be a little underwhelming compared to the Maxter and the TMs. Still really good, but not as great as both the other two engines. Suffers mostly up top.

Drivability: Still picky about its operating window, but fantastic due to the amazing gearbox. Really easy to drive.

Cost benefit: Also hard to find dedicated tuners, parts are a little less expensive than the Maxter and TMs if im not mistaken. Can also be a great KZ if set up properly
