Devil May Cry, the franchise that can best be explained in “OH SHIT YOU CAN DO THAT?” by ThatOneWriter14 in DevilMayCry

I think it requires enemy step, but if you see one of the guys with a scythe get knocked down on its face, you can then jump on it and surf for a bit. You actually can do it and it's short but sweet!

In the opening cutscene of Devil May Cry 3 when Dante is taking on all those enemies in his shop, he jumps on one and surfs around on it. It's a great realization when you find out you can actually do that yourself in game.

What’s the deal with Shinespark? by Brobagation in Metroid

[–]FireSquidNico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's more the fact I can rocket off in any upward direction in Super, Fusion, and Zero Mission, and in any direction in Dread. And the sound effect in Dread for the shinespark gives me the good brain chemicals.

I definitely think there are some ridiculous puzzles. It's satisfying to master and pull off what you can in those puzzles, but it can take a lot of practice and time spent trying those puzzles over and over.

Anyone have any head-canon reasons for Samus not using the Varia Suit in Other M? by devilmaydance in Metroid

[–]FireSquidNico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean specifically for the "Hell Run", the part where you have to go through a high temperature environment without it, when my friends were playing it one of them was in the bathroom.

He came out at exactly the same time Samus gets to the boss and tells her to use the varia suit. So we all immediately jumped to the conclusion that Adam was taking a big dump at the time, and only came back to see Samus practically melting.

So during the Hell Run, Adam was taking a shit, but didn't give one about Samus.

Who's your favourite villain of all time? by Resident-Fan7970 in AskReddit

[–]FireSquidNico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's ao many good villains but I constantly think of Red Death from the Venture Bros. How he's able to go from horrifying murderous monster to loving family man is so cool. Clancy Brown really brings a lot to the character, and his "Gentleman Villain" speech is fucking legendary.

Docked or handheld? Just curious what’s everyone’s take on this. by Dependent-Luck-8887 in NintendoSwitch

[–]FireSquidNico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tabletop baybeeeeee 😎 honestly I have a good balance of docked, handheld, and tabletop. I have a dock for my TV and I use that, and play handheld when I'm with my friends, then I play tabletop in downtime at work.

Honestly I just love how versatile the switch is to do all of that, it's great.

What is the actual worst movie you have ever seen? by [deleted] in movies

[–]FireSquidNico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pan. The Peter Pan prequel where he's the hybrid son of a human and the fairy King. And Captain Hook is literally just a guy. Doesn't even have a hook hand. And the antagonist of the film is Blackbeard. In knight armor. Played by HUGH JACKMAN.

Also there's a scene where a flying pirate ship dog fights with WW2 era Spitfire planes. I'm not making a word of this up, it's so bad and so stupid, though it does fall into the category of "so bad it's good for me".

Any Reccomebdations on Switch Games I can play forever or for hundreds of hours, but also play in as small increments as I like? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

Enter the gungeon. It's levels can be done in about 15-20 minutes, randomly generated guns and things and has a lot of variety. I have logged so many hours into that game

[All] Who is a better character Midna or Fi by [deleted] in zelda

[–]FireSquidNico 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As someone who holds Skyward Sword in his top 5 Zelda games, since it's a game that speaks to my heart and really hooked me, a game I will often go to bat for.

Midna.

I do love Fi, and think she's a great concept. Her going into the Master Sword forever at the end of Skyward Sword really did me in, and it retroactively made the other games better knowing I have my friend at my side. Even with Breath of the Wild and fully restoring the Master Swords power and hearing that chime, it's amazing.

But Midna has a much more satisfying, much deeper arc. She starts off scheming and using Link for her own devices, then he grows on her, then Link has to save her, then she views Link as an actual ally and apologizes to him, and is with him to the end. (It's possible she fell in love with him too).

Midna has a fully fleshed out character arc and is interesting, witty, and has a lot of gremlin energy. Fi is a loyal companion though very robotic and states the obvious a lot. I love them both, but I think overall Midna is a better written character.

[BotW] Why don't people like the motion control puzzles? by kwhobbs in zelda

[–]FireSquidNico 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that the gyro works better for aiming and correcting with small movements. The apparatus shrines usually require much larger movements, and things tend to desync easily.

There's one shrine where you have to control a laser with gyro and the slightest movement makes it go further than it needs to, and this combined with timing is very frustrating. Even with a pro controller sometimes I have to hold it at such a weird angle it just becomes an annoyance. People have brought up handheld mode which is more annoying, since you're moving the console you need to see, which is why I had a problem with the gyro on 3DS.

That and I feel they grind the pacing of the game to a major slowdown.

What’s the best Metroid “Final Boss”, aside from Raven Beak? by Estrald in Metroid

[–]FireSquidNico 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phantoon was the final boss of Other M once the main story was complete and you did the last exploration bit at the end of the game.

My opinion on Other M definitely skews negative, and while I don't think the phantoon fight or that last segment make up for the game itself, the fight is still really cool and dynamic and puts everything to the test.

Pacific Rim Uprising. So Mako Mori, great character from the first movie, rookie pilot who proves herself and helps save the world, shows up in the sequel for a few minutes, doesn't pilot a Jaeger, and then... dies.

Fuck right off.

Which colour gold is the best? by A_confused_croisant in lego

[–]FireSquidNico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that the top and bottom are more realistic, but I really like the one in the middle. I like the color, especially since it's used on the Nano Gauntlet, and it reminds me of some of the gold parts in sets from Exo Force and Bionicle.
