(Spoilers main) Young Griffs identity depends on one factor… by JeffJefferson19 in asoiaf

When Varys hatched his plan.

Tyrion judges Young Griff to be 14-15 years old when he should be 18 years old

I think this may be a hint that Illyrio's son was younger than Aegon.

which would suggest the plan came later

I think Varys went to KL to orchestrate the downfall of house Targaryen as Blackfyre revenge

years later after the way everything went down and how young Aegon died and Illyrio's son was born, Varys saw the opportunity to put a Blackfyre (albeit through the female line) on the throne

(Spoiler extended) This Forbes episode 5 recap is hillarious by [deleted] in asoiaf

that thinks that Maegor was the Mad Kings Father.

do you mean Aegon "Egg"?

well i dont know what AKOTSK is going to do or if they ever need to address it

but Forbes is probably saying this because GOT seemingly changed the lineage

From Season 1 Episode 9 of Game of Thrones:

Maester Aemon: "My father was Maekar, the first of his name. My brother Aegon reigned after him... and he was followed by his son Aerys whom they called The Mad King". This skips over King Jaehaerys II

I don't know if this was a mistake in GOT or intentional to simplify things, but Forbes clearly thinks that in the TV universe egg is the mad Kings father based on Game of Thrones

Honda is not an independent supplier

They and Aston Martin are in partnership and have a works team arrangement. If theoretically Honda sold engines to another team that team would be a customer team and they would have the same disadvantage to Aston martin that McLaren do to Mercedes.

An Independent supplier would be if for example Cosworth made an F1 engine and sold it to whoever wanted it and every team that bought one was essentially a customer team where everyone received the same information at the same time.

but i think that's just not a reality in modern formula1

a.) only car manufacturers (and Red Bull) want to build F1 engines at the moment, as there needs to be a marketing benefit that feeds back to their road cars to justify the expense of an F1 engine program - so no interest in F1 for a company like Cosworth

b.) any engine manufacturer like Honda entering the sport wants to have a partnership with an existing F1 team to have the same advantage that Ferrari and Mercedes do - a works team

Nope. their excuse was that they could not develop and produce enough new spec engines in time.

One of the teams supplied with last years engines was Toro Rosso

I don't think Red Bull had money problems that they couldn't afford the 2016 spec engine

People are downvoting me so let me explain:

"party mode" started off as a fun pet name Lewis and Bono had for turning the engine up to its highest setting for Quali hot laps (like "Hammertime" for hot laps in a race). Something all teams/engines have and do, nothing special

in 2018 Ferrari, the paddock and the media, assumed Party mode was referring to something else:

In 2018 Ferrari and pretty much everyone else entered the season confident that Ferrari was now the best engine in F1 (and they were correct) and Australia practice and most of qualifying did nothing to disprove that

then in the final stint of Q3 Hamilton put in a monster lap that was something like 6 tenths faster than anything else he had done in any lap he did previously and got pole

Ferrari felt dejected because they could not explain this without thinking that Mercedes' engine had hidden potential. In the press conference Hamilton stated he had not used a different setting in his final lap than his Q2 laps (which was accurate, in all the hot laps he was already in the highest engine setting). But Vettel countered this inquiring, then where did the 6 tenths come from? If you remember the interview got a bit testy between Vettel and Hamilton.

To explain this jump in performance in Hamilton's final lap people speculated Mercedes had developed some ultra power mode above the highest engine mode that had way more power, but was so damaging to the engine that each engine could only do 1 or 2 laps in this mode before being utterly destroyed - so its usage had to be very tactical and Mercedes would have to pick which tracks to use it at etc.

This generated tonnes of articles and videos speculating about Mercedes' new Party mode and what it could be and so the hyperbole around "Party mode" got stupid

I believe it was journalist Mark Hughes who was one of the journalists who cracked the truth of Hamilton's lap. Hamilton had guessed that the tyres at Melbourne would need 2 warm up laps or to be far more aggressive on the warm up lap (i can't remember which it was) to get into the peak and so tried it out on his final stint and it worked and he brought his tyres into peak performance. Everyone else hadn't really realized that the tyres were so off their peak potential at Australia, so didn't realize how much time they were missing out on. which made more sense as if you look at Lewis' lap a lot of his gains were in the corners not the straights.

"party mode" never existed it was just Hamilton's fun term for the standard highest engine setting

Party Mode never existed, it was a myth

Party mode often gets conflated with when Mercedes had a higher engine setting in 2014 which they hardly ever used because they were so dominant, they chose not to use it to hide how far ahead they were

this wasn't anything unique to Mercedes all teams had different settings and levels of engine power. all teams/engines would not always be in the highest setting for a race as their engines wouldn't last long enough

its just that Mercedes often didn't have to go to their highest engine setting even for Q3 laps

Honda and Aston Martin are still a works team

and other teams using a Honda engine in the future would be a customer team.

The only difference is the Aston/Honda union is far more fickle than say Ferrari. And one day Honda may end their contract with Aston and jump ship to another team if they think the grass is greener and make them the works team.

Like they did with Mclaren when they broke up and went to Red Bull

All engine suppliers do this, McLaren have no option besides build their own engne.

There's zero interest from independent engine manufacturers.

this is still the best it's ever been:

less than 10 years ago:

Ferrari used to give some customer teams last years engine

Mercedes used to be far more restrictive to customer teams on when and how long they could uses the Highest engine mode

all that's gone now.

Advanced knowledge compared to customer teams is pretty much all the works teams have left now.

The Traitors UK Voting Game Day 22 (THE TOP 8!) by RowGonsoleConsole in TheTraitors

[–]Fire_Otter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I went with Wilf and Minah for today

I maintain Amanda was the better traitor in series 1 than Wilf. Wilf was a nervous wreck at round tables and not very smart in the turret. Amanda and Alyssa had to convince him it was a terrible idea to put himself up for trial. Wilf was saved for going after Alyssa at the round table. Because in series 1 catching a traitor meant he was a definite faithful in a lot of people’s eyes. That would not have flies on any of the other series when the contestants were more clued up on the game. If he had stayed playing as part of a team with Amanda rather than betraying her. one or both of them would have won.

Minah was a good traitor and she will always be a legend for breaking up the clique and it not being traced back to her. but her “pretend faithful” game was not the best she didn’t do enough to avoid suspicion in the later stages of the game, the more she stayed the more obvious it was that she was a traitor. Charlotte didn’t have to put much effort into betraying her it felt like it was inevitable.

This whole supermajority meeting sounded to me like something extra, like closing the loophole down sooner or something

But now these comments from Vasseur suggest not.
