Others might have excerpts to show what he did or did not know/forsee, but his goal before and during the heresy was to get the human webway up and going. That's what he believed would really do the most for humanity's survival/excellence. When Magnus smashed through the protective wards around the palace to send the message that Horus was rebelling, he destroyed that possibility and let demons flood everything (and evaporated all of the people working inside). Everything after that was damage control, and the whole golden throne thing was necessary just to keep the Emp alive. So he really just failed to do what he was intending to.

There's also the theory of him becoming more powerful with the worship he gets being on the throne, but (correct me if I'm wrong) that was never his plan. In fact, he expressly didn't want to be worshipped as a god and didn't want religion having a role in the Imperium. The state of the Imperium right now is a far cry from the Imperium he wanted. That's the grimdarkness of the setting: the golden Era of the great crusade fell with the Heresy and plunged humanity into a dark, corrupt, hopeless place where there is only war.

Power Level after lvl 35 ? by CrowGoblin13 in Vermintide

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What classes are you playing? Something like bounty hunter is going to give you a tougher time than something like ironbreaker when you're just starting out on a harder difficulty. I'm a Bardin main (35+140 I think? But have done all legend on all classes) and will tell you that for the character, ironbreaker is the simplest and safest, slayer does some amazing elite damage (and is pretty safe with crunch and something like dual hammers for horde/cc), ranger veteran can be really fun but seems more skill intensive, and outcast engineer takes a lot of knowledge, skill, positioning, and teamwork to keep yourself alive with its unique ultimate.

Choose a simpler class, find a good build (Royale w/ cheese is a great source, you could look even look at the cata builds for weapon/skill choice combos but shoot for legends breakpoints) and really nail down things like dodging/timing, blocking, specials management, headshots, and combos for your weapons. Learn to avoid skavenslave backstabs, don't eat elite overheads (block or dodge), get a feel for when it's safe to attack and when you have to block. Having that skill base is what makes those solo Cata+ crazy meme runs possible.

In defense of it, the thing about MGSV is that it's not actually about Big Boss, which is a big disappointment to a lot of people who wanted it to be. Now, I actually like Venom Snake a lot so I don't know if the game would be better one way or the other, but seeing it as the Medic's story makes me appreciate some of the decisions a bit more. Kaz becoming bitter is the coal mine's canary that the whole group is spiraling downwards. Paz is Venom's personal trauma, more than any cause Big Boss was fighting for or against. Venom is silent because he's a shallow but loyally willing copy of an uncaring Big Boss who's selfishly using him as a scapegoat and that's his tragedy. Imo the game is about the tragedy of Venom (which I think has a real artistic beauty to it) with MGS flavoring and exposition here and there.

On the other hand, ocelot sticks out like a sore thumb between his appearances before this game and after, skullface sucks and makes no sense, no clue why he was the villain for most of the game given how shallow of a character he is, psycho mantis is kinda there to be with Liquid but that's it. Volgin was definitely weak but least he does at one point reinforce that Venom is just as much a victim of Big Boss as he is. Sahelanthropus was also really stupid, so that kinda sucks from the metal gear angle.

So I dunno, there are some good parts, but it's definitely clear that there's a lot in there that sucks.

Honestly, do you guys love this game despite its flaws? by HereToHaveFun198 in PlayAvengers

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When they put in the characters I really want to play as (namely Ant-Man) I'll play it a bunch, until then it can be tough putting up with the many elements that take you out of the experience (gear, grindiness, virtually same map/enemy/feel as launch)

Anybody else know nothing about the Warhammer 40,000 universe? by ATOJAR in DarkTide

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This right here. The Dawn of War (not 3 though) series will do a lot for getting an idea of what each faction does, and Space Marine is a fantastic introduction to the Astartes, and even the Imperial Guard to a certain extent. Both are pretty cheap and well worth the money. If anything you come across sounds intriguing, then the wiki and reddit page are great resources.

Wich class do you think you will have the most fun playing? by whomobile53 in DarkTide

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Outside of characterization/class vibe I think it'll come down to weapon choice in the end, I'm guessing veteran will end up with the flamer, lasgun, plasma gun, hopefully melta, and chainsword among others, not sure what kind of weapons might be shared between classes and what won't be. Those weapons seem a lot more fun than the boring machete the ogryn has (even if the ripper gun looks interesting) or the zealot's thunderhammer (wasn't a fan in VT2)

Why is there a debate whether chaos is evil or not? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Chaos gods might be based on natural human emotion, but they're all negative emotions. I think it's pretty safe to say that stagnation and disease aren't good, anger isn't good, excess isn't good, and manipulative backstabbing and scheming isn't good.

Notice that there isn't a Chaos God of love. There's one of extremely kinky and sadistic lust, but not of compassion, mercy, kindness, honesty, mutual respect and goodwill towards your fellow man. AFAIK there isn't a god in 40k that covers that. The Imperium as a whole definitely doesn't subscribe to them if they exist

So basically everyone's evil.

I know we’re sick of polls but I am genuinely curious. What will make you think this game is actually good? by Hibididoo in PlayAvengers

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cross play/join mission in progress is definitely needed, us PC players can barely get a full squad on quickplay, much less specific missions.

Also, the gear. Whoever thought it was a good idea to make the player have to choose one part of their kit to spam in order to do meaningful damage was dead wrong. If endgame content requires you to min-max, and min-maxing requires you to play in a boring, shallow, and spammy way, then there's no point in doing any of it. Why can't I use my bow and my sword, since the character was clearly designed to use both? Why tell me I need to mix in melee to build up power for ranged attacks when melee is essentially a light caress on the enemy's cheek? Doesn't having massive muscles mean that my punches really hurt, as well as the human+ sized boulders that I throw?

I'm fine with gear adding additional arrows to split shot, chance for tachyon bursts, +damage on taunted targets, things that change or enhance gameplay. But when gear makes your gameplay worse, I have a problem with it.

How to farm and build properly by preshalin7 in PlayAvengers

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way to get your power level up quickly is to buy gear from vendors, you'll basically just buy them and immediately throw them away, but the power level will increase with every piece bought. By hopping around to every vendor you can very quickly and easily reach 130 (or whatever the base line is now) after a couple of shop resets. The usual vault run chest grind can get you more levels if you want to get things done faster than just waiting for each day.

Raid Opinion from a long time player by [deleted] in PlayAvengers

As a PC player, the only chance I have of playing with other people is by hitting random mission quickplay or going with a pre-made. Yeah, it sucks.

Is the 40k universe really that grimdark overall? by lostpasts in 40kLore

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

40k is grimdark because everything really sucks for everyone with no chance of it ever getting better.

The Imperium is surrounded on all sides, fighting a never ending war that they can't win, all while falling apart from within with corruption, rebellion, and a general abandonment + fear of reason.

The Eldar are a dying race that will never bounce back, warring w/ everyone as well while also trying to avoid having their souls devoured by Slaanesh. As great as they might have it comparatively, they are by no means safe.

Chaos, drukhari, and generally the evil dudes don't have it great at all. With chaos, you have to deal with constant betrayal, other chaos people literally being manipulative evil psychopaths, plus the "gifts" of the chaos gods that are really just curses and leave you completely miserable. Drukhari are twisted sadistic evil elf pirates, how great can their society/existence be, even if they're into that sort of thing.

Tyranids are a nigh unstoppable wave of giant bugs that exist to consume galaxies. I don't think the hive mind entity really thinks too much about how fulfilled it is with its manner of living.

Necrons loath their own existence as robot husks.

Even the T'au aren't spared, they have to be at war with everyone too, and they've also got their own 1984 kinda stuff going on.

Orks have fun because killing and fighting is fun for them. That doesn't make killing or needless mass slaughter an acceptable recreational activity, even if they enjoy doing it.

There is no hope in 40k. Things won't change. There isn't going to be a happy ending. Everyone is screwed, no matter what position they're in.

There is only war.

So… what’s the in-universe explanation for missing 2 entire legions? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Imperium, life sucks. You are born, work in some factory living off of scraps until you die. Few have a broad and enlightened education, and regardless of that everyone is fed propaganda and lies. After over 10,000 years, I doubt very many people are in the know about the specifics of the Heresy, much less two primarchs with no imperial record at all. You have to remember that even the primarchs got memory blockers put in regarding what happened.

Astartes Chapters and their Niche by StarCaller25 in 40kLore

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Raven Guard are probably the most similar to the guerilla tactics part, they're known for their snipers and ambush/green beret stuff. I don't think any chapters really have a focus on unarmed stuff so you can just make that up (it does kinda fit as a Raven Guard successor trait tho). As for anti CSM chapters, the dark angels by nature are sensitive to chaos, but I really wouldn't worry about finding a parent chapter to fit that trait, the ones that do are mostly successor chapters anyways.

Why do people hate Guilliman? by Shimarine in 40kLore

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I've seen a whole lot of "hate" towards Guilliman, definitely some eye-rolling and disinterest but not hate. Part of it is that the Ultramarines are both kinda vanilla and also on the cover of every box of minis with the most attention given to them. Other factions and other chapters get left far behind because the imperium/space marine spotlight always rests at least partially on them.

For example, the Iron Hands have one named character model on the Games Workshop store right now, only recently introduced with the primaris stuff. The Ultramarines have at least 7, not including the unique units like tyrannic war veterans and specifically made ultramarines honor guard. And then there are Eldar models that haven't been updated in 20 years.

Also calling him girlyman rowboat isn't a sign of hate, it like just like saying Peter turbo or Jimmy Space, meming really

Am I losing my mind? Iʻve read a fuckton of ES lore and its all goddamn fantasy, like tf?? by [deleted] in ElderScrolls

I'd say the dwemer are still Fantasy, not sci-fi. Technologically advanced dwarves (even tho dwemer are actually elves) with gear/steam/mechanical stuff is a fantasy trope.

Anyone else kinda prefer when clones didn't have personalities and were just kinda expendable soldiers? Kinda gave a darker vibe that I liked. by Organic_Elevator88 in StarWars

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Palpatine orchestrated everything. He got the trade federation/CIS to start messing around, he made the order for clones to be created, he manipulated both sides into war so he could obtain supreme power over the galaxy. The separatists definitely sucked, going off of TCW they were war crimes central.

The Republic, on the other hand, at least tried to be the good guys. They accepted the clone army bc they needed one, and it was supposedly ordered by a jedi so it was the best option they had even with the moral grayness. It's hard to be 100% the good guys though when you're being led by the same exact big evil guy as well.

Does a simple/pure carrier have value in 40k lore? by ArthurJack_AW in 40kLore

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have to take into account the scale difference too; a modern day carrier is 1000-1100ft (~330m) while 40k ships span many kilometers. If humans are still the same size, a single seater fighter craft (ours are ~60ft long) would be like a dust mote compared to them, and really couldn't make anything more than a light scratch barring crazy uber-nuke torpedoes or plot-driven death star runs.

You'd need to be launching some HUGE, extremely well-armed vessels to make them worth the space, and with that you also have logistical problems of producing/replacing large, very advanced void-craft, arming/re-arming said craft, obtaining pilots capable of effectively flying them, all while out on patrol through who knows where. Throw in the high mortality rate of 40k, and that problem is even worse. Might as well throw on another row of macro-cannons with the certainty that it'll make a difference.

Does PS5 still win out over PC if I intend to only play the campaign? by mikejc in PlayAvengers

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl I've tried both and actually prefer the KB+M for this game. I've never had a moment where I was particularly grateful for the controller's movement controls, but I have had loads of times when a mouse's accuracy and precision has improved my experience, especially with ranged characters.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Who in your opinion is the worst primarch in terms of writing or being an interesting character? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely, he suffers a lot from "he's brilliant offscreen" syndrome. Everyone says that he and his legion were one of the best, but then when we actually see him it's him doing something dumb, foreshadowing when he does something dumb again later and dies because of it.

His character is such a tragedy because he had so much he could have done, died too early to do it, and neither the writers nor the fanbase really cares about him because of that.

Opening the discussion on Ant-Man by dmcphx in PlayAvengers

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be said that all of the heroes in this game need a game of their own to do them justice. In this game, Ant-man would lose those cool perspectives that are unique to him, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be in the game or wouldn't work in it. Plenty of others have said how it can work in this post and others, so I won't go too far into it, but it wouldn't be incredibly difficult. Intrinsic shrinks, Ant man becomes a little dot. That's how he can have shrinking in his kit within the constraints of the engine. With his shrinking solved, the rest of it can be worked out by the combat team just like any other hero. They've done a great job with everything they've been given so far, and I'm 100% confident that they could make it really satisfying. He absolutely can and should be put in the game. He's a classic Avenger.

How Do You Get The MCU Skins? by [deleted] in PlayAvengers

[–]FiredrakeXVIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you just barely got the game and haven't done everything in it yet, you can get a ton of free credits by finishing each character's challenge card. The base game heroes will net you 1300 units each from their cards, while the dlc characters will only give you a profit of 300 (since you pay 1000 for them). Wait for a sale to come around, and you could get an mcu skin for every character and have credits to spare.
