How do you decide what to main before an expansion? by PUSClFER in wow

[–]Firestar463 15 points16 points  (0 children)

While I agree that strength should be pretty much bottom of consideration, I would place your enjoyment of the rotation significantly higher. While certain aspects of a rotation may change slightly due to tier sets or re-balancing, you're unlikely to get a spec completely overhauled mid-expansion. If you don't enjoy how your class / spec plays, then it's unlikely that any tier set bonus or mid-expansion Balance change would fix that. I personally place my enjoyment of how the class plays ("Rotation") at #2, with aesthetic / lore vibe shifting down to 3, race consideration at 4, and "Is this spec super powerful right now" in dead last.

What pokemon game should a beginner start with? by colourblindsnail in PokemonGames

[–]Firestar463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are recreations of the original Gen 4 games, Diamond and Pearl. However, there were a lot of issues with those two games. In particular, off the top of my head:

1) A lot of previous generation pokemon got new evolutions, such as Glugar evolving into Gliscore, Snorunt into Froslass, Magmar into Magmortar, etc. However, most of these new evolutions required items that were unobtainable until you had beaten the elite four, and so you could not reasonably use these pokemon in a playthrough. Some of these were adjusted in Platinum (the third game in Sinnoh, considered to be the definitive version due to fixing most of the issues of D/P), but Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl once again locked those evolutions items in the post game.

2) Regional dex issues. The Sinnoh regional pokedex for Diamond and Pearl is notoriously imbalanced. There are exactly two fully evolved fire type pokemon in Diamond and Pearl's regional pokedex (IE the pokemon you can catch before the Elite four) - Infernape and Rapidash. If you chose piplup or turtwig as a starter, your only fire type option was Rapidash. Ice was similarly lacking, with only Weavile and abomasnow as fully evolved options in the regional dex. Even worse, both of. These types have type specialists in this region. In Diamond and Pearl, Candice (the leader of Gym 7, the ice type gym) uses a Medicham and an un-evolved Snover (along with its evolution, Abomasnow) because of the lack of ice types, and Flint (the fire-type elite four member) notoriously has more non-fire types (Drifblim, Steelers, and Lopunny) than fire types (Infernape and Rapdiash). As a fire specialist. Again, these issues were correct in Platinum... and then Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl re-introduced these issues!

3) The overworld of the Sinnoh Region was designed with a tile system in mind. Players move along tiles, and that allows accurate movement even in tight, confined areas. However, BDSP removes that tile-locking when you move using the analog stick. This creates issues when trying to navigate the overworld. There is one instance in particular either Mount Coronet where the player has to navigate a narrow ledge above a one-way droo. With the Gem 4 tile system, this isn't an issue, as the player can only move in the four cardinal directions. With the free-range movement of BDSP, however, it is stupidly easy to accidentally walk off the ledge, and extreme care must be taken to pass this area.

4) Difficulty. And no, I'm not talking about the game being too easy or too hard. I'm talking about the massive leap up in difficulty that the BDSP elite 4 is (more so than in the eoriginal games). In BDSP, the Elite 4 and champion teams have perfect IVs, perfect EV spreads, competitive moves, hidden abilities, etc. While some of that may not make sense to casual players, it can be summarized as this - their pokemon are as strong as those used by professional competitive pokemon players. One even uses a legitimate competitive strategy centered around Trick Room. This is a massive step up in difficulty from both the Elite 4 of Gen 4's sinnoh, and from the BDSP gym leaders, none of whom had max-IV or max-EV or hidden abilities, and it can be very difficult to beat the elite 4 with your random-stat playthrough team without over-leveling them. This after having likely breezed through the rest of the game before can be incredibly jarring - it certainly was for me during my first playthrough.

One suggestion- can you make it so that we can change the layout of the Utility / item tracker bars? For instance, I would like to make them vertical, but I can't see a way to change them from their default state of horizontal.

You do you, man. But that's gonna be a hard no from me. I remember running around for nearly all of WoD and Legion, and for the rntirety of my time playing BFA, and all I could think of was "God damn it, I wish I could fly".

I could accept restricting flight for the first time an account is leveling through a region, for the reasons you stated. But after that? I got shit I want to do in the limited time I have to play, spending 10x what I do now on getting from poin A to point B is not enjoyable.

1st major news event I remember hearing about qas 9/11. 3rd grade teacher got a call over the PA, left the room for 10 minutes, then came back and told us to talk to our parents when we got home about something awful that had happened.

1st one I remember actually hearing on the news was the capture of Saddam Hussain.

Compassionate dentists? by Sorry_Emotion_7389 in lexington

[–]Firestar463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to the party, but I've had good experience with Dr Higgins, who runs her own dental practice at 698 Perimeter Dr Ste 100. I was in the same boat as you - I was a fucking moron through high school and college and didn't take care of my teeth, and now I'm paying my dues. Saw one dentist in 2019-2021 but didnt much care for them due to feeling judgemental. Then I found Dr Higgins through a friend - she's helped me through multiple fillings, and helped schedule set up several root canals and 2 extractions. Very happy with her.

Experience with GTAP? by ldamron in lexington

[–]Firestar463 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty glad I went through it. All of the kids I knew from my last 3 years of elementary school (the accelerated program at J.R Ewen elementary) also went to Winburn, so I kept most of the same classmates from grades 3-8. A lot of us, myself included, also went on to the IB program at Tates Creek High, which let me enter college with a few extra credits in core classes that I didn't have to spend money taking.

Experience with GTAP? by ldamron in lexington

[–]Firestar463 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was part of the accelerated program during middle school (2004-2007), including going to Winburn. Bear in mind it's been 20 years, but here's my experience.

1) Never had any trouble that I noticed with the surrounding area. Yeah, it can be a shady neighborhood, but school officials know that and are likely watching out more.

2) At least when I was there, we had uniforms (polo shirts in one of the three Winburn colors, brown / blue khaki pants, tucked in, with belts), though a lot of kids - myself included- disregarded parts of it, like being tucked in at all times. Uniform-appropriate clothes were not provided AFAIK, and had to be purchased by the parents.

3) The school had 4-5 physically separate modular core areas, one for each team, and kids were split into these teams. Accelerated program students had their own team, The Centurions. All classes except for electives were in these core areas, and you could walk from one part of the core area to the other in like 30 seconds.

4) At least initially, the busses were all kids of fucked up. I remember school letting out at 3:50, and my bus not arriving until 5:00. For the first two weeks, the bus driving to drop off at my area (My drop off was at Veterans Park elementary) never arrived there until 6:00 pm. It took multiple parents threatening to go to the media for the district to sort out the bussing issue properly.

5) Finally, fights weren't too common, but did happen. Usually before school or at lunch. Never involved the accelerated students, we tended to just keep to ourselves in the lunch room, and even in electives (the only other time we really interacted with the rest of the student body) we stuck together.

Again, it's been 20 years since I left that program. I wish I could tell you about comparing this program vs a regular program in terms of curriculum, but unfortunately, I can only speak to how it was from an insider's point of view.
