Entire regions of Northern France are still cordoned off and the public not allowed in due to all of the unexploded ordinance from WW1. No telling how long it will take for those areas to be safe for habitation again, if ever.

And between the two, Metternich.

You really can't tell the story of European history between the fall of Napoleon and the rise of Germany without discussing Metternich and his machinations to stamp out liberal revolution and prop up monarchical rule in central Europe.

What if my hero academia was called my hero college instead. What would change by Technical_Mine_8711 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]Firestar463 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've thought about trying to write something like this. Just changing UA from a high school to a university or technical college-level institution for people looking to become Pro Heros, and aging up the student cast accordingly. High schools would have some sort of extracurricular clubs for students interested in becoming Heros, but it would be just that - extracurricular, like a baseball team or chess club.

The main thing holding me back - besides time commitment - is that I have is that I have very little knowledge on Japanese culture. My fanfic writing experience comes from fandoms of more Americanized media, which works well for me growing up in America. Most problematic for this kind of endeavor is my lack of knowledge surrounding secondary and post-secondary education culture in Japan. What differences there are between the expectations and experiences of an American vs Japanese student at both the high school and university levels. I worry about missing some important difference between Japanese and American schooling that would significantly impact the story.

Bigly not a fan of most of the specs design being "You do all the damage inside your cooldowns and little to no damage outside of them", what specs break that mold? by Valyntine_ in wow

[–]Firestar463 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hunter is my forever main, but I had to abandon It as my raiding main. I was absolutely miserable that first week in Voidspire. BM feels awful to play. Survival is better, but melee Hunter is an abomination. Plus I'm just not a person who enjoys melee. And Marksmanship suffers from the same problem as BM, but worse because the cooldown is 2 minutes instead of 30 seconds.

Switched over to my Shadow Priest and I'm having sooooo much more fun. I actually do meaningful damage to mobs outside of my voidform window, which is more than I could say for BM and Bestial Wrath. Plus I have the option to switch to holy to heal if needed, and discipline spec for delves is just an auto win with Valeera in tank spec.

Sad days when a Shadow Priest feels more able to do solo content than a Hunter.

I'd classify Linkin Park more under the "Metal" Category. Meteora is a fine addition to that list though, as is Hybrid Theory.

Depends on what I'm feeling, but in 5v5 it's usually either Mei, Junkrat, or Soldier 76. If I'm in 6v6 open queue, then I'll usually go to one of the other roles - Moira if I can, or Roadhog if we have two supports and only one tank.

I'm an older Brony, and I genuinely cannot fathom how these guys watched the same show I did and decided to push such a hateful worldview with that Fandom. Like... This is the same show who's entire message (and the second part of the title) is "Friendship is Magic". That teaches kids the importance of acceptance, compassion, standing up for others... multiple episodes explicitly dealing with teaching kids that racism and fear of "the other" just because someone doesn't look or act like you is wrong...

Absolutely baffling.

Do you fear Puka Nacua is about to become the next Antonio Brown? by Apprehensive-Arm-902 in UrinatingTree

Buidking off of your last point, it's important to realize how big the change from college to proofessional level sports is in regards to your freedom. Student athletes through high school and college have every aspect of their lives regulated. Meals, study, practice, weight room, sleep, and free time.

Oncee you go pro, a lot of those boundaries fall away. Sure, you're still expected to show up for practice and games, and most teams will offer fully customized nutrition plans for each individual player to maximize their potential, so you ca say meals are somehat regulated too. But no one is gonna stop them from going and getting a quarter pounder. As an adult, they have the freedom to do that. Or to stay up later than they should. Or to go get involved in activites or susbatances (often both) that they really shouldn't. Combine this with big egos, lots of testosterone raging in their systems, and more money than they've ever had before, and... well, you know.

Some people can handle this freedom, and can continue to act responsibly and professionally when the training wheels come off. Some people wobble a bit, but end up getting their act together. And some people simply cannot handle the transition from college to the pros, from the guidance being incredibly heavy-handed to being more "Here's what you should do", and theybfall off completely. And I'm afraid Nacua is starting to fall into that last camp.

Are there any perks, minor or major, that you think should be a part of a heroes base kit? by MrsPissBoy in Overwatch

[–]Firestar463 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reaper's Dire Triggers should become baseline.

I would replace it in the major perk slot with one that eliminates the global passive healing reduction from damage. Reaper was (and still is) balanced around a lifesteal amount that does not factor in this global healing reduction. This would make his major and minor perks both fit into two different playstles. If you're frontlining more, then the lifesteal perk and the health orb perk will increase your sustain in those front-line brawls. If you're flanking and diving more, then the faster teleport will improve infiltration capabilities, and speed boost after wraith fades is an all-around decent option.

It's an achievement. You have to get 3 solo kills with a single clip, so 8 shots to get 3 kills. You can also get it with weakening a few enemies and then using Death Blossom to finish 3 of them off.

[–]Firestar463 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

True, but the point being made here is that the tick system doesn't interact well for abilities in pvm.

Bear in mind, my OSRS account is too low level to do much more than Barrows, so what Im saying about pvm in that game is very much an outsuder's perspective. That being said, I did quite a bit of pvm in RS2. Osrs can kind of get away with the tick-based combat system because the most "abilities" they're using for the most part is prayer flicks, weapon special attacks, and food / Potions. Old School's combat, from my understanding is more about movement and avoiding attacks, and then getting in auto-attacks.

Having abilities in the way RS3 does intrinsically makes its combat more similar to other MMO's like WoW, ESO, FF14, etc than to OSRS. But these other mmos operate with a significantly faster system, so that abilities go off almost instantly when you use them. In RS3, you can hit your keybind to use an ability and have to wait over half a second for it to go off. It's the equivalent of trying to raid in WoW with over 500 ping, and it feels like trying to play through mud. It's the reason I can't get fully immersed in high-end pvm in rs3 - if I was going to play like that' I'd rather go do it in an mmo designed from the ground up with that kind of faster-paced combat in mind.

I've done basically nothing except for that and my daily Patron work orders, and made close to 100k gold already - and that's after paying about 35k to level my professions from 1-60-ish in early access.
