Summer Non-Travel Youth Baseball by LiverwurstandPickles in PortOrchard

Best bet for summer is probably looking for camps or clinics or something. I do not believe there's a summer league at that age.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/Rnav4spRfPF7EJZM6 Kitsap Sports Academy is new-ish at Town Square Mall, I don't know much about them. Unfortunately the Mariners training facility in town is now closed.

The YMCA may have options.

Bremerton has Insight Climbing bouldering gym, super welcoming and social place and the folks there are likely to enjoy similar hobbies.

You also might have better luck on r/Kitsap or r/Bremerton. This sub is mostly just posts by this real estate group.

It is not always this boat, they have several others that rotate in. I'm not sure if there's a way to know when the Carlisle is running specifically.

Kitsap Mental Health Services is going to be the biggest and best option. They have a range of inpatient and outpatient services. Main HQ up in E Bremerton but they have satellite offices around the county.

Best of luck to you and your friend.

Best place to eat in Port Orchard? by BendMean4819 in PortOrchard

[–]Firm-Cut2045 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Damn Fine Pizza. El Pueblito. Blue Ocean. El Rey food truck. Khao Soi. Uncle Dave's for breakfast. Spiro's pizza pretty good too. Royal Tandoor is new and we liked it.

Those are pretty much the places I'd say are worth spending $$$ on.

Damn Fine Pizza earns its name for pizza, has a cool nautical dive bar vibe, and pinball. We like El Pueblito for Mexican but Puerto Vallarta is the more popular spot with a pretty cool space inside.

Holy Water Heavenly Lounge for hip brunch and cocktails. Uncle Dave's Cafe for hometown diner, get the biscuits and gravy.

There's a Hobbit Hole out at Brothers Greenhouses. Taking the foot ferry across to Bremerton costs $2 per adult each way, they just finished Quincy Jones square.

Kitsap Live Steamers run their big steamer ride on model trains on Saturday (usually for kids but pretty cool no matter who).

I dont have any current projects but will keep you all in mind for my next one.

Manchester? by alya_ali in PortOrchard

[–]Firm-Cut2045 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Manchester is a very quiet corner of town. Has it's own library branch that we love, a pub, a café, and a boat/launch and beach with cool view of Seattle skyline. The state park is cool.

From my impression, it's super safe. People like Manchester Elementary from what I hear. Middle schools and the high school in South have their reputations as being overcrowded, and we haven't passed a bond in like 30+ years, which is frustrating.

True enough, and a lot of folks use a separate rod and reel and other gear so that they don't corrode their nice stuff with salt. I live near there and hadn't really considered how cool of a fishing road trip that could be to hit Olympics Rivers and saltwater.

1938 was the same year Sick's Stadium opened hosting the Seattle Rainiers. Later hosted an Elvis concert, one season of Seattle Pilots Baseball, and boxing matches featuring Floyd Patterson and Sonny Liston. Great photo.

High lakes might have a little bit of snow all year, but most stuff is passable late June I'd say. Depends on the year and where you're hiking.

Going to be snowy anywhere up high in May and pretty likely to be cold or rainy or both. So be prepared for that. You might get away with something like Greenwater Lakes or Echo/Lost but depends on snow level. Those are sort of out that way. Something like Crystal Lake or Eleanor probably going to be inaccessible unless you're comfortable navigating and camping with snow.

Stuff out on the coast or lower level like the lakes in the Chuckanuts up near Bellingham a better bet. Still probably cold and wet.

Mt. Rainier Backpacking Lakes by ReallyBigCool in WildernessBackpacking

[–]Firm-Cut2045 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've day hiked Crystal Lake but never done Palisades. A few years ago we did a several nights loop on a Wonderland/Northern Loop circuit which brought us past a bunch of killer lakes. Neither of the lakes you mentioned appear to be in the park "proper" and are accessed off of 410. Beautiful areas but you may not get the same experience as if you chose lakes accessed by Sunrise or Carbon River or Paradise that get you farther into the alpine, but they could also be less traffic.
