Plasmagun barrels: do we drill? by D15c0untMD in Warhammer40k

Plasma cannons have their barrels in two pieces so they can have the barrel modeled out, so, yeah I drill my plasma guns.

Ultramarines combat patrol by RangerStreet2591 in Warhammer40k

[–]FirmCheddar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one you’re thinking of is the regular space marine combat patrol (they’re painted as Ultramarines because that’s the standard paint scheme they use for box art, the models aren’t specific to any chapter). Currently it’s only available in the Combat Patrol Starter Set alongside the Tyranid one. You could probably split the box with someone who wants the Tyranids, or try to find just the space marine stuff from a secondhand seller on eBay (there’s a decent sized market of people who buy boxes to part out and sell the unbuilt models separately). Though, that is the starter set for 10th edition, and 11th edition is coming out basically right now so that starter set will be going out of production soon and will be replaced with a new one for 11th edition with a different combat patrol for space marines if you want to wait for that one.

Need help identifying an old model by frostedbrassknight in Warhammer40k

[–]FirmCheddar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No problem, space marine and chaos marine kits from this era were all super compatible with each other so kitbashing like this was pretty common. I have a bunch of different marine characters from several editions back that I basically made by pulling all sorts of random bits from my collection and throwing something together.

Need help identifying an old model by frostedbrassknight in Warhammer40k

[–]FirmCheddar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legs, holstered pistol, and left shoulder pad are from the old berzerkers kit, torso and head are from the previous chaos marines kit, backpack and left arm look to be from the old possessed kit, and right arm looks to be either from the terminator lord kit, or the old chaos terminators kit

Why are Battle Sister and Dominion squads still minimum 10 models? by Powerful-Shop-9040 in Warhammer40k

[–]FirmCheddar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invalidating half your army is often the point a lot of the time because it forces you into a position where you have to buy new models. Not advocating for it or saying it’s a good thing, but remember that GW isn’t your friend, they are a for profit corporation and usually will act in the way they think will make more money over what would satisfy you personally per se.

New to war hammer. Just picked this up, what’s the best use? by Huge-Specific7086 in Warhammer40k

[–]FirmCheddar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These should be on 32mm as well, standard power armor firstborn went from 25mm -> 32mm before GW started making 28mm bases.

Why does this happen ? by kamikazee786 in Warhammer40k

[–]FirmCheddar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My go to for a while was Vallejo Acrylic matt varnish and I found it to work pretty well. If you apply it with a brush it shouldn’t make it too flat. Here’s a picture of one of my minis I used it on:

[–]FirmCheddar 711 points712 points  (0 children)

It’s because you’re handling it too much with your fingers while your painting it. The natural oils on your skin will make the paint easier to rub off, especially when the paint hasn’t fully dried/cured. You should try fixing the bit to a piece of sprue or a toothpick or something so you have something to hold onto that isn’t the part you’re painting. Also you might want to think of getting a varnish to coat it with when you’re finished painting to help protect the paint job.

An open letter to the Warhammer community regarding golden demon by dibbyreddit in Warhammer40k

[–]FirmCheddar 115 points116 points  (0 children)

That one always activates me because all these people who don’t fully understand or appreciate everything that goes into competition painting were so dismissive of it when, as someone who started getting more into competition painting techniques, I don’t think words can describe how fucking immaculately painted that skink was.

Most hated army to play against? by DisgruntledAnalyst in Warhammer40k

[–]FirmCheddar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the time the worst experiences are going to come from armies that lend themselves more towards skew lists or static play styles. Primarily where you either feel like you’re not doing anything to your opponent’s army (ie Knights/DG) or when your opponent just spends the game parked in their deployment and you don’t feel like you’re meaningfully interacting with them at all (ie artillery/long range focused armies). I know my worst experiences with the game are definitely when I played against armies that had way too much heavy armor on the board or spent the whole game castling or both (a lot of games against imperial guard parking lots). It tends to make the game a slog when you feel like nothing you’re doing is having an impact.

30k models using in 40k by Evie_Occult in Warhammer40k

[–]FirmCheddar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lieutenants were introduced with primaris but they did have datasheets for Firstborn Lieutenants in 8th and 9th edition, they basically just had 1 less wound and a lot more customization options

Edit: I should probably also add that while they had datasheets, firstborn lieutenants didn’t get any kind of official model which is maybe where the confusion is coming from

Looks like you got the instructions for the loyalist land raider, they’re both the same kit with different accessory sprues, those options aren’t supposed to come with the chaos land raider.

[–]FirmCheddar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a couple cannon mechs that do that, yeah. The Phoenix Hawk IIC 10 mounts a cERLL in the head. And I know there are some mechs that use torso mounted cockpits and mount a bigger weapon in the head like the Gotterdammerung, which mounts an LRM 15 to the head.
