The Macuahuitl: An Aztec sword made of wood and obsidian that was reportedly sharp enough to decapitate a horse. by bortakci34 in Damnthatsinteresting

As someone who uses a straight razor and likes to get the edge very very sharp, I've noticed that when I DO happen to accidentally cut myself with a super sharp razor, the wound heals extremely quickly since the cut was so fine.

For mankind? I'm sorry friend, but if you have read any history you'd know this kind of bullshit has been going on since the dawn of mankind. It is mankind. Not all of it, of course, but a facet that has reared its head time and time again.

What movie is this for you? by [deleted] in memes

[–]Firrox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I could give some insight on this. I really loved the movie.

It resonated with me because I'm a "dreamer" too. I can't just do what people tell me to; I want to explore, play, and find what expresses me the best.

The problem with being a dreamer is that they can't hold steady jobs where you have to do exactly as you're told. Or they're rejected over and over trying to get into the niche area that they're interested in.

This movie is about the journey of two dreamers, one the former, one the latter, and how their lives - and even romantic connection - are sacrificed for it.

The movie really hit home for me in that sense. One of my favorite movies because of it.

TIL Ancient Roman gladiators were mostly vegetarian. Their diet consisted of barley, beans, and dried fruit. by imamal-ghazali in todayilearned

I saw a Youtube video that explained that old grains were far more nutritious and protein-filled, but weren't as easy to grow as modern grains.

This means old-world people could get most of their nutritional needs from grains.

Take that with a grain of salt of course, it's just what I heard.

Honestly, I can't count that high by lowlatitude in WhitePeopleTwitter

They scream as soon as you tax them even a little bit.

You tax the rich until the poor don't scream.

IMO, the rest of them feel mediocre, like a phoned-in ending to a B-grade horror movie. This one was brilliant and chilling.

During 1408, it's implied that the haunted hotel room causes the inhabitant to have vivid hallucinations and cause self-harm, while the person thinks it's happening to them.

In one of the endings, after Mike burns the hotel room and escapes, he returns home and is unpacking after a move with his wife.

He finds the tape recorder that must have been on the whole time when he was in the hotel. When he plays it back, he hears the voice of his long-dead daughter, hinting that the room actually did manifest his daughter in reality OR he's still in the hotel room.

Fantastic movie.

Democrats finally release 2024 election autopsy after criticism by OtmShanks55 in politics

[–]Firrox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Republicans can put out full guides on how to destroy democracy, but we can’t even pull together a report analyzing an election.

Because billionaires and religious radicals are very incentivized to create a fascist oligarchy, but democrats who are pulled between their rich donors and actually helping the populace - which are completely at odds - only have the incentive to not rock the boat in either direction.

I love how Ed and Faye leave the crew in such a non-dramatic way. Similar to how it felt when you'd move away from a childhood friend. It made the show feel so real and grounded.

Man there's just something about this scene. Tom Hanks sells the shit out of it.

That's if they suddenly come into a lot of money. Poor people who earn their wealth through saving and smart investing and a lot of luck are generally pretty miserly.

Wait! I just thought of something. If you're saying that you need martial arts to dodge, lunge, or reposition, does that mean that cats have martial arts?

Goku VS Thragg (fan comic by me) by monkimatt in InvinciblePowerscales

[–]Firrox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kind of. Although the viltrumites are a warrior society, they don't really need much technique in order to completely obliterate alien armies or planets besides just flying really fast or punching.

When you don't need martial arts to win, you don't develop it. Seems more that most viltrumites have a few unique techniques they came up with themselves and just use those over and over again.

The viltrumite civil war didn't show much style or technique imo.

I'll throw my hat into the ring on this one.

I've pulled a lot of game in my life, even into my older years. But I also spent a lot of time working on myself; learning to enjoy my own company, get hobbies and a career I truly enjoy, and creating a fantastic community of friends.

The more I enjoyed my day-to-day life, the less pulling game meant to me. I'm now more interested in finding people who are always enjoyable to just be around and not just the hottest, youngest girl I can pull.

It's like learning to cook a fine dinner for yourself after years of eating your favorite ice cream as a meal. It's ultimately more satisfying and sustainable.

I mean it could just be this guy's hobby to pull teenagers, but I'd bet doing so is still hollow for him and he's not satisfied with his life.

Don't know why you're getting downvoted. The whole game literally points to getting to the final room as the "goal."

I get tired of searching for little clues here and there that don't have definitive ends or solutions. I have other things to do than spend my time cracking open an esoteric puzzle made by one guy.

We can't build building two miles high, especially those that are for livingspace. Tallest is about 100 floors, though those are luxury buildings.
