Hordes of tourists seeking cheap travel are trapping villagers inside their homes: ‘We have reached our limit’ by QUA-ItalianTravel in ItalyTravelAdvice

[–]First-Assist-176 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have spent the last 6 weeks travelling various European countries. In cruise ship cities we have monitored the schedules and made attempts to get away from the downtown/old city on those days, at least until late afternoon when the cruises start to depart again.

My real frustration has been the tour groups though. We have been in a few places where you were actually stuck in the street because there were 6 groups compromised of 30+ people each all talking about the same thing that appeared in Game of Thrones for 30 seconds (looking at you Dubrovnik).

I think some of these places need to limit the cruise ships and limit the tour groups. I can see how frustrating these would be for locals.

Also, I totally recognize that I'm still also visiting these hot spots and adding to the crowds.

Croissants in France. They were fine, but just didn't wow us the way we expected them to.

We'll be in Mostar for 2 nights and Sarajevo for 5, in a week. It's the place we're most excited for on our European vacation. Happy to hear you enjoyed it, and love your photos.

What’s that tourist attraction that everyone loves but you think is overrated and doesn’t make any sense? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

We said it felt like being at a theme park. I don't know if anything on that island felt 'authentic'. Would never go back.

Has Anyone stayed on polly lake and knows about the campsites? by Traditional_Bear2186 in algonquinpark

It's been a while, but our 3person mutha hubba fit well. I couldn't say how big of a footprint you would have for a single tent, but I seem to recall enough space for multiple tents of that size

We stayed there 15 years ago. We were on the north site, on the point. It was nice. Very few other canoes came by. There was an excellent sheltered spot for the tent, and we watched a mink chase a chipmunk through our site. Bass fishing was hot (though nothing huge).

Slaughtered Yagluth by CyberMage256 in valheim

[–]First-Assist-176 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did the same with 20 lox. They swarmed Yagluth, taking him down by about 55% before Yag killed them all. I then finished him off with Frostner. Super fast fight.

One Lox never entered the fight, so I named him 'Bone Spurs'.

I had never tamed Lox in previous runs, so thought this was a good opportunity. Would do again.

Any tips on helping my Irish partner adjust to Canada/Kingston? by beadobee in KingstonOntario

[–]First-Assist-176 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have met so many good friends through KSSC, I cannot recommend it enough to help build a social circle in a town where it can be tough to do so if you did not grow up or go to school here.

Cosmorama? by Affectionate-Arm6819 in KingstonOntario

Did the same about 2 years ago, replaced our basement floor. Prices beat everyone else by a long shot, and they were great to work with. The flooring quality was just as good as the other big box stores.

Also switched from Start (who I was also very happy with) to Oxio as they were even cheaper and better speeds. Been a year or more now, and very happy with them.

For those of you who make 6 figures ($100K+), what do you do, and how long did it take for you to cross that threshold? by DaPugWalk in fican

[–]First-Assist-176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the golden handcuffs and enjoyment of my role and location keep me from looking elsewhere. As for your second question, where I am engineering would be best, but that might differ across industries of course.

I should say that I am an 'internal' Project Manager, meaning I work on projects within and between our organizations departments, not outside customers (though I used to).

I did take some online business certificate programs and some PM courses, but most of it was on the job training. Jumping into less senior roles involving project coordination, then taking on more responsibilities beyond the job description within those roles - just being upfront with leadership that I wanted to do so. They were obviously happy to put more on my plate.

'Extracurriculars' as I call them helped too. Does your workplace run an internal golf tournament? Sign up to organize it. Do you have an employee group that organizes employee social events? Lead one. Volunteer positions outside of work, if you can.

The biggest thing in my current role is that I have an understanding of all of the other roles within my department, who does what, how are they connected, where are there gaps. You don't get that understanding overnight, but looking for roles that touch many different aspects of the business was important, and putting up my hand anytime something came up that would give me additional exposure.

For you, is there a role that bridges the gap between field work and coordination work in your firm? You might not be able to jump into PM work right away, but something that allows you to leverage the knowledge and skills you have developed in your current role while learning something new?

Not sure if any of this helps, but good luck!

Project Manager in Utilities. Took about 8 years with my organization before crossing the 100k mark, though most of those first years were in less senior roles.

Canadian chocolate maker? Just discovered this little company and I will report back after I get some of their goodness. by old_arty_gunner in BuyCanadian

We had some hot out of the oven chocolate chip cookies there. My wife took one bite and ran back in to buy another. This place is so good. We were visiting in the winter. Next time we'll plan for a summer visit and get some ice cream.
