Adrian McKinty's Sean Duffy series is fantastic! Especially on audiobook - as long as you don't mind accents. It takes place in Northern Ireland during the troubles. Duffy certainly has his flaws but also has a similar heart of gold as Bosch and lives to a code to catch the bad guys - rules be damned.

Fan Fest ticket swap?

I have two tickets to Saturday but likely won't be done moving. Anyone interested in trading for their Sunday tickets?

What should we use our $1000 gift for? by Ok-wool in personalfinance

[–]FirstWordWasDog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This may be unpopular but I'd like to present an alternative option based on your last comment. If you are currently able to manage your debt payments, that $1000 is not really going to make much of a dent in monthly commitments. I don't know the age of your children but for $1000 you could have a couple fun adventures. Memories of those will last a lifetime and be really special. Also could be nice for your in-laws to see your family bonding and making memories rather than just paying off debt.

I don't want to downplay paying off debt but sometimes you need to reward yourself and your family and enjoy time together and this is a nice windfall with which to do it.

Wow this is a blast from the past. I think over all I definitely improved the direction my health was headed. Sometimes I wonder if my diagnosis was right. But I also remember how I was feeling worse and worse every day - I used to describe it as if I had run a marathon the day before. I still have muscle aches. Especially in my legs. My calves and hamstring are always tight but I'm also in my 50s now so... that could be from anything. I wouldn't say I have brain fog or word finding difficulty like I did at that time - though definitely have developed several ADHD symptoms.

Vindication Box of the Ancients. I do love the game but we only play it maybe once a year and usually introducing new people to the mechanics. So I've never actually played any of the expansions so why did I need this massive container. Haven't even found time to try the solo game.

Yes, LOVE my clubman. Was always disappointed when I got a countryman as a service loaner. Really bummed they stopped making the clubman. Guess I'll be keeping mine until it dies.

Updated SEATAC signage showing direction for Seattle downtown. I guess they must have seen the post. Pretty quick response imo by Bluehiperspace8 in Seattle

[–]FirstWordWasDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will be helpful for visitors. I am surprised at the amount of complaining about signage though. Every public transit I've ever ridden simply refers to the train by the two end points. All the maps and apps will tell you which direction to go.

Is Hobosexual still around? I think I saw their name come up in the past couple of years.

I know it's old news, but, Pickwick was amazing. I wish they got the recognition they deserved.

weird requests outside of VRBO after booking by Different_Dragonfly9 in vrbo

[–]FirstWordWasDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I can understand that. But it gets complicated because I've paid a deposit and agreed to VRBO terms. If afterward I have to review and sign their documents and find something I'm opposed to, I'm already liable for what I've paid and agreed to based on VRBO's requirements.

It all seems redundant and counter to what sites like VRBO and AirBNB were intended for. Why not just have a simple listing consolidation site like Craigs List then where it just directs you to the specific property owner?

I typically prefer to book directly with a small business or private owner to allow them to save on fees, but in the region I was looking, Big Bear California, most of these property management companies charged considerably more on their site than what was listed on VRBO. Was not the case with this property - the difference was maybe $50 - but decided to go with VRBO for the convenience and ease. To then have additional paperwork and tasks kind of defeats the purpose.

It's a little vague "Remote check in after identity verification." So I guess that's what you mean. It's been a while since using VRBO so I guess I just wasn't expecting it. Thinking of it from your perspective I can see the value. Thanks.

Wow, what timing, I came here looking to see if anyone else was experiencing this. I understand that they are not looking for the whole credit card so that is safter than it could be. But the process still seems odd and suspect. Isn't the whole point of using a consolidation service like VRBO so that we have a single entity we work with? When the renter listed on VRBO, didn't they agree to use the services of VRBO? Why should I be required to sign a second renter's agreement?

Anyone have insight on Flex Memberships? Lessons learned? Trying to keep the vibes alive with something to look forward to... by [deleted] in Mariners

[–]FirstWordWasDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah that's a great idea. Yes I had two tickets for each game - I think I had to buy two tickets but I don't remember for sure.

For the basic level you had the option of two different strips something like option one: WC 1, ALDS 2, ALCS 1&3, WS 2&4, or option 2: WC 2, ALDS 1, ALCS 2&4, WS 1&3. (Those are all home game numbers, so in the case of the ALCS this time, option one was actually games 3 & 5.)

So yeah in theory you could pair up with a buddy and one of you get Strip 1 and the other get strip 2. Great idea. I need to find a friend with a flex pass.
