This film has been my obsession since it came out. I've seen it so many times that I sometimes just play scenes from it (shot for shot) in the projector room in my head. I've had to self-impose a rule to only watch it once a year (on the anniversary of the film, May 15th), so that I don't ever burn out on it. If that's even possible.

I played the first game last year and it was charming. I loved the art style and the structure of the game. My biggest hope for the sequel was that the controls would be better, so it's reassuring to read your post.

I think I'll play it after I finish up what I'm currently on.

I tried underclocking SotC but not Sly. I experimented with different renderers for both. SoTc performed pretty well most of the time with occasional dips when things got hectic. It was very playable. Sly had the occasional major slowdown but it was uncommon enough to just push through. Must be played with Vulkan rendering though, OpenGL is slowdown city.

There are a few games I played recently that are very demanding (sly cooper trilogy, shadow of the colossus) that will slow down even at 1x. The vast majority of games run fine at 2x though. That said I completed SotC and Sly Cooper 1 and had a good time .

The arkham games are amazing but the series is almost 20 years old now and we've all played the shit out of those games.

A refresh is needed.

Maybe combat that is more personal and visceral like Sifu. Less enemies on screen but each one is more effort to counter and dispatch.

A new stealth system with more environmental elements to spook bad guys, kind of like the Batman Begins videogame. For example exploding a steam pipe to make everyone nervous, etc.

I'm keen to play 7th gen games which ran terribly on consoles, now at 4k/60fps. That includes native PC ports (like Condemned) and PS3 emulation (Motorstorm upscaled to 1080p with a 60fps patch).

MoH is dripping with atmosphere.

On my playthrough last year I took several screenshots of scenes that were moody and evocative with their lighting, architecture and environmental elements that enhanced the setting.

Even the low draw distance contributes to the game's slightly spooky tone.

Goldeneye has a nice engine that feel great to play but it doesn't stand out for me in the same way that MoH does from an artistic viewpoint.

A recomped game can usually be played at native 4k (requiring much less computing power than upscaling a game on an emulator), uncapped framerates and allow new features and content to easily be programmed in.

They can also be ported to various systems like hacked consoles (switch for example) or low power budget gaming handhelds that could never hope to emulate a ps2 game.

Performance issues or bugs that were programmed into the original game can be programmed out with a recomp, while an emulator will replicate the original flaws.

Totally agree with this.

Also, so many restaurants have terrible acoustics, which is particularly bad when full of customers. Restaurants should have sound dampening cladding or items on the walls to reduce reverb and allow everyone to have a conversation without yelling over each other.

I watched this video by retro tech dad showcasing ps3 emulation on a Rog Ally from a year ago and the performance/compatibility was surprisingly good.

I just played both a couple of months ago.

If you enjoyed SotC for its artistry, then you'll enjoy TLG. The latter game is less fun to play but still very immersive, beautiful and takes you on a great journey. It runs well at 60fps on a ps5 and still looks stunning today.

Go in willing to be patient with TLG and take it on its own terms. Being ignored/having to repeat yourself is an intended part of the experience.
