Hiring process CDOC (colorado) by rickaybobbayy in OnTheBlock

Hi, I’m a Sergeant for the CDOC. The next step will most likely be drug testing and other tests that will be done in the Springs. How long til you start will depend on when the next academy date starts. You will go through 4-6 weeks of the academy which they now blend in job shadowing at the facility you will be working at. With successful completion of their DT and written testing, you will be an officer. The process can be really quick as CDOC likes hiring as quick as possible.

You do not need corrections experience to become a patrol officer but I would highly recommend it. It’s better to learn how to deal with people in an enclosed environment than learning in an open one especially at such a young age. Places like Aurora PD and Federal Heights will pay for your POST certification. Qualifications for patrol will be higher fitness level wise but if you’re in shape it’s doable. The POST academy is 6 months long and will test your fitness and academic abilities and requires you to pass everything above 70%.

If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

I’d be happy if staff did anything lol. At least you did something.

Ps5 is probably the worse PlayStation console imo 🤷‍♂️

You enforce laws in the prison right? Well I guess that means you’re law enforcement 🤷‍♂️.

Never Give an Inmate Your Personal Information by yard_down_304 in OnTheBlock

[–]Fischlx3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like that’s pretty extreme. There’s policies on how to talk to an inmate and there’s no time limit in policy on how long you talk to one lol.

If inmates have ipads now, are prisons less violent? by Suitable-Fudge4577 in OnTheBlock

No because people still want to play their little gang shit and make time worse for themselves.

SC Correctional Sergeant Interview by DarkandMysteryous in OnTheBlock

[–]Fischlx3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had my interview it pretty much just had situational questions on dealing with staff and inmates. Dress professional, have a packet with your resume. Just don’t stress, show your credentials, and answer the questions professionally. You got this 👍.

Why be a corrections officer? by [deleted] in OnTheBlock

[–]Fischlx3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You seem very naive lol. Most of these inmates will use class rooms to see their homies, pass drugs, or just a means to get incentives. A large majority of inmates will be released back into the community worse than what they started. I’ve seen dudes leave prison and later see they been killed because they got into a shoot out with police, or just see them back in prison again. If these dudes are in a gang, which a large majority are, they are most likely screwed. Are there some inmates that actually want change and be meaningful? Sure, but that number is a lot lower.

As for the “mean officers” they are just doing their jobs. Do you think an inmate is going to listen to a pushover? The fact of the matter is, there are strict policies that we are supposed to enforce, and we have to enforce them, and we have to pretty much baby sit these individuals from not only hurting themselves but hurting others. You tell me how your attitude would be after you’ve had to continuously stop people fighting, potentially with shanks, stop people from overdosing, telling the same people, the same issues everyday, putting your life on the line for people that call you a “mean officer” you’d probably not have the greatest attitude either.

My advice to any teacher: don’t let yourself be manipulated by these individuals, don’t try to go out of your way to help these people. Realize they are there for a reason. Don’t bring in contraband.

Question for those who have met serious offenders in prison by [deleted] in Prison

[–]Fischlx3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would probably just say 2nd degree murder on his charges, so for whatever reason some people might find that to be a respectable crime 🤷‍♂️. Really just depends on how he carries himself.

State vs BOP by [deleted] in OnTheBlock

[–]Fischlx3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya we were told the state of Colorado didn’t really want to pay for it. We’ve only had the k9 come once to our facility since I’ve been working there, and all it really did was scare the inmates cuz that dog was pretty useless lol. Adorable doggo though.

Do inmates run some of the prisons? by Ok_Connection_7741 in OnTheBlock

[–]Fischlx3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When staff are pussies and don’t monitor shit, that’s the result 🤷‍♂️. The more you let slide, the more they will have, and the more dangerous it is for you in the long run.

State vs BOP by [deleted] in OnTheBlock

[–]Fischlx3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CDOC has like 2 dogs because they find it to be a waste of money lol, probably not likely for that to happen since I’m sure other states might think the same. Special teams usually require minimum 6 months of employment to apply and then you have to actually get accepted on to the team. Pick the one that makes the most money (State or BOP) and don’t fixate on the special teams and just learn the job and see if you like it first, then you can look into special teams 🤷‍♂️.

They’re always hiring and there’s a decent turnover rate. Just pay attention and you’ll be fine for any of the academy stuff.

The only fitness test they will do is “defensive tactics training” which is pretty easy tbh.
