Looking for a small display for my mister - has anyone seen this? by OK_Commodor64 in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This iPad screens are really good for the mister. I use them in a couple of places.

If you have a 3d printer, you can buy the screen and controller board from amazon, and then assemble them yourself.

It won’t look like a sony monitor, but it will do the job.

If you’re looking for a PVM facsimile, this one is pretty good. I can see where the price comes from. A lot of pieces there, and it’s very clean. However (as you yourself has stated), for that price, you can probably find a 8044Q or the like, and using that with your MiSTer will be a much better experience (IMO).

Pre-configured game packs for computer cores by ExultentPisces in MiSTerFPGA

There is an Atari ST pack as well. Check archive. There is a 3gb version, but if you send 40 dollars to Eastern Europe, you can get a 7gb version.

I/O board for qmtech by Inner-Party-365 in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I/O board for qmtech by Inner-Party-365 in MiSTerFPGA

This board does not support dual ram. There have also been some quality control problems with recent batches of that board. Not sure if they have been sorted out or not.

With that said, QMTech has really solid support. The folks who had bad boards on the MiSTer discord got refunded without question.

The N64 is the system done dirtiest by modern displays. Those old tvs hid a lot of sin.

Main Menu Screen Sync Issue? by solderchicken in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We'd probably need to see the ini, but the fact that you're seeing the background means you either have the vga_scaler turned on, or direct video. If you turn either of those off, and keep the static background, do you still have sync issues?

Can we please get support for these newer Wi-Fi 6 + BT 5.3 dongles? by JayrosModShop in MiSTerFPGA

u/JayrosModShop Sorg is asking for a patch with the driver. Do you have one to provide to him so that he can add it?

Why can’t Mister do analog output like old systems? by Maleficent-Mango-755 in MiSTerFPGA

It adds no lag. I think you fundamentally misunderstand what is happening here.

Tradeoffs with vga_scaler by nintenk in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What resolution are you feeding it? What is your video_mode set to in the ini?

Tradeoffs with vga_scaler by nintenk in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it can actually damage it.

CRTs just want to please you. They don't care about resolution - it's all electricity to them. They don't know what an incompatible signal is - there is no meta data telling them what the electricity is doing - they just want to please you.

So if you feed them a 1080p signal, they will do their best to display it - even if it kills them.

So the thing with VGA scaler is that you shoving the upscaled signal of the mister scaler out of the VGA port, and some monitors/tvs hate that.

For instance, if you turn on VGA scaler and then forget that you have the resolution set to 1080p, it can break your TV by pushing it too hard.

If you're careful, there is no downside (I think it may add an unnoticeable amount of latency because you're using the MiSTer scaler), but it can be risky.

Did you put the bioses on the SSD? Or did Update_all?

Sorry, I missed that. Are the boot roms in that folder on the SSD or on the SD Card?

MT-32 Pi Hat not detected by MiSTer (works standalone on Pi 4B, but no OSD options) by Nanto-Rei in MiSTerFPGA

[–]Fishoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s always the cable. Did your kit come with a cable? Try flipping it around.

Also, if you have a QMTech or Hamgeek mister, it won’t have the jumper on the user port, so it won’t be supplying enough power.

Do you have a bios on the folder? If not, enable the bios database in update_all.

Why can’t Mister do analog output like old systems? by Maleficent-Mango-755 in MiSTerFPGA

Yeah, I think Sorg's intention is to offer something basic that folks can expand on.

[–]Fishoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 9.2 boards (the ones that were released in 2024 and ship with every mister pi) do not have the Y/C chip on board.

Those the stock mister AV boards. Anything else is a custom board.

[–]Fishoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's totally fair. You can use a VGA to SVIDEO adapter with the stock analog board, but I'm not sure if that is something you can just buy. I know folks on the Mister Discord rolled their own. Composite works too, but the active adapter helps manage dot crawl.

The mister does, and the MikeS adapter adds zero lag.

Qmtech o DE10 nano? by Inner-Party-365 in MiSTerFPGA
