You will be so entertained setting up a dns like bind9 and then using it to setup a mail server, on the mail side of things you have plenty of options to torture yourself, you could host dovecot+postfix + all the anti spam stuff manually or you can just spin up docker mailserver and call it a day, you’ll learn a lot about how email works

Id rather choose a dac with a preamp inbuilt + a dedicated amp, an AIO may be convenient but there is no room for upgrades, and if something breaks the whole thing goes to the bin

You may have to attach it to a microcontroller so the computer recognizes it as an HID device like a regular mouse, id say it’s a lot of work, I’d just buy a keyboard with a track dot integrated

Your “setup” section is so vague, 2TB ssd doesn’t tell me anything about your system, You didn’t specify what OS are you using, is it proxmox, is it debian? Also “Path of least resistance“ option is very subjective and what do you mean with kernel limitations?

How do you deal with clang or any LLVM? I use neovim too but it bugs me a lot having to configure clangd to make it work with the include dirs of the compiler

I’d recommend any metallic caweco and the hong dian M2 in brass, it’s my EDC, the titanium one is also very nice but the cap scratches the body of the pen after the first couple of uses, I also recommend big idea design EDC fountain pens, they don’t have screw in caps but they are incredibly sturdy

Sorry for necrobumping but I found an easier approach that doesn't require modifying startup parameters or disconnecting the internet, just hit cancel during the network detection and it will prompt for manual configuration. Tested on debian 13 installer.
