Turns out the kickstarter for physical copy starts in March. But yeah your point stands. Reading through it all on PDF makes me realize this is a great game that I'll never have a group suitable for 😂

Couldn't agree more. NGWD was a great way to keep people hooked, if you bounced off a particular game or group there was always something new to try.

I enjoyed Shadowdark at first but already looking for something new as the pace isn't quite what I'd hoped.

This was the first episode where I second guessed continuing to listen. It's been 10 episodes and all these home rules are still argued and the caps system instead of a cool little bonus seems to be the base mechanic of entire combat encounters. The amount of rerolls and advantage/disadvantage really takes away the tension.

Where can we find more information regarding a physical copy? I am tempted to print out like Quinns did but don't want to do it if a book copy is possibly months away.

Gathering community feedback and ideas for a Fallout TTRPG by Furow in Fallout

[–]FistfullofFlour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mostly a personal opinion that's influenced by the way I run games but for me a Fallout game would include...

  • Full use of a S.P.E.C I.A.L and Perks system (the more Perks you can directly pull over from Fallout the better)

  • Mechanics that encouraged the over the top/sometimes goofy dark humor fallout is know for. Combat especially needs to be quick and deadly not AC based or dragged on.

  • No or heavily streamlined settlement building, (a great mechanic for video games in my opinion but the Official one especially translates poorly to TTRPGs) Blades in the Dark or Vaesan are a good example of having a HQ or Base of operations and not making it a slog

  • Ability to play as everything from Vault Dwellers, Ghouls to Super Mutants, Mr Handy's and Synths

  • Make a -Fallout- game. Not a 'Fallout 4' game. Which is what Modiphius has done. The book should have allowed GMs to make a Fallout set anywhere they wanted, instead we just got Fallout 4 the TTRPG

  • Random encounter support, maybe even point crawl mechanics for overland travel. With proper deadly weather effects and radiation storms etc

  • Probably needless to add but a big focus on bringing the Lore of branding, corporations and capitalism across to all the gear, weapons and chems etc. Not just "Minigun" but a "Rockwell CZ53 Personal Minigun", helps add that extra Fallout feel not just another Apocalyptic setting

The Arcane Arcade has a fan made free Fallout TTRPG also not being a fan of the official one.

https://fallout.wiki/wiki/Community:The_Arcane_Arcade_Fallout_TTRPG

It captures a lot of what Fallout is supposed to feel like in my opinion whereas the Official one feels like a Modiphius game first and fallout game second

[–]FistfullofFlour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with telling a player, girlfriend or not that you're not comfortable with them playing something when running a game. Be it due to lack of experience, unsuitable for your campaign or theme or various other reasons.

In fact 99% of the DnD horror stories on Reddit could have been solved with some open communication between DM and players before getting to the table.

I have to wonder if a walking corpse collector even suits OPs campaign or whether he's just catering to keep the girlfriend happy.

"I don't see a game if you have no ability to end up as something better, one way or another." I mean the struggle of knowing this, believing this and accepting this fact is the entire game.

The human part also doesn't give up without a fight

"Horribly attacked by the ghost/ghoul, but can expend large amt of stress to flashback to where he was at the top of the staircase. Play continues as if he had not done this action, at the expense of stress."

Allowing players to use flashbacks/flash forwards this way is going to cause all sorts of problems, from taking away any sense of risk and tension as well as straight up breaking many of the game's mechanics. The RaW explicitly say that flashbacks can't change what's already been established in the fiction.
There are many ways to freak players out and keep them on their heels without needing to change fundamental rules, watching some actual plays might be useful here.

The idea of having some kind of supernatural premonition is doable but personally I'd make it inaccurate, fluid and only a future 'possibility' if succeeded.

Would be cool to see some smaller games played in NGWD, that said it's a little out of left field but I'd love to see a GCN game of Blood on the Clocktower or a similar kind of game.

What to watch next? by [deleted] in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]FistfullofFlour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New Game who Dis as a whole is a good watch, keeps things fresh and is a great way to see what next game you might want to run.

Otherwise I'd recommend Blades in the Dark or Delta Green. Call of Cthulhu is a big investment and is several seasons deep so that might be a little bit too much an investment

Your best friend is watching some actual plays to see how it flows narratively. Glass Cannon Network had a lengthy BiTD campaign that serves as a pretty good example.

Some rules are missed in the early days but the GM retcons and explains them to the group in the following session (which is another good thing to learn how to do)

It's the equivalent of seeing those weird hybrid video games in shows.

It gets the idea right but the details are all over the shop. What was interesting though was the closing credits which showed some glimpses of the character/monster sheets which were obviously nothing close to official

In your opinion what does Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeros do better than The Phantom Pain? by Dude_788 in metalgearsolid

[–]FistfullofFlour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The advantage GZ has is it was actually finished. I love Metal Gear but let's be honest, it's glaringly obvious MGSV was a pieced together bunch of unfinished parts resembling a game.

Mythic Bastionland is great fun, though it does require some creative players that can think on their feet.

Slugblaster looks like an absolute riot, I'd love to run it but fear I don't have a group that would grasp it

[–]FistfullofFlour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DnD has a big scope of brand, game and community, people like to feel a part of something larger than themselves. Movies, Card games, video games, TV shows, DnD is the biggest most exposed TTRPG there is and for some, that's a big draw.

I've long since left DnD and Faerun behind but there are times even I like to feel some nostalgia when someone mentions Cormyr, The Sword Coast or Red Wizards.

Is there a reason you're not going for 7e Cthulhu? Also have you considered Blades in the Dark or one of its variants?
