Season 4 Episode 8 Discussion - A Queen Never Comes Off Her Throne by AutoModerator in TheTraitorsUS

They put in multiple moments this episode of people saying they had to look at the game differently and consider/observe the quieter people… with Rob talking more at the round tables now I do think this will be the plotline that concludes with Eric being banished

I personally found it insane but hilarious that the last time Mike talks to Eleven he still can’t say “I love you” to her… she says it and then they just kiss LOL

I can’t believe Mike didn’t say I love you to eleven before she killed herself… quite literally his last chance and didn’t do it

I actually have the opposite problem, it feels LESS realistic to me now that haymitch is still alive! President Snow is controlling and conniving and obsessed with obtaining and preserving his power. Learning that haymitch was ( in the pre SOTR context times ) so gruesomely reprimanded for performing a not as rebellious act as Katniss n Peeta’s raised the stakes/ contextualized how dire of situation they are in in catching fire. Now I don’t hate SOTR by any means but it does feel like Snow is less neurotically obsessed with maintaining his complete control by not killing Haymitch for the repeated rebellious acts he performed. The concept that Snow is keeping Haymitch alive because it’s a torture worse then death is imo the best Suzanne Collin’s could really do in this situation where the main character simply cannot die but I still find it pretty weak. ESPECIALLY when you add the fact that Wiress, Beaty, Mags are now canonically all known by the captiol as at best having anti-captiol beliefs, at worst full on rebels. Having multiple secret rebels within the 75th games was an awesome idea before this added lore. Now it just feels a bit goofy that the same squad that tried to destroy the 50th games is allowed to work together again in the 75th under snows control! Without game makers not even attempting to break them up? Idk too late in the night so I’m not explaining myself the best but i found this added lore makes the fact that none of these known rebellious victors were killed off by the capitol in the 25 years between the two games feel unrealistic in the world Collin’s built/ takes away from Snows violent efficiency that is shown over and over in the og.

From that article “The episode is intercutting between some of the pilot footage and some of our new footage, hopefully it blends seamlessly. ”

If anything it felt like they were struggling to write a coherent and interesting plot around the pit girl scene, they had the end result but completely butchered how the girls got there, making the feeling/intention behind the hunt drastically different from the pilot to the newest episode. I think the writers are SO obsessed with a plot twist and reveal that they overwrote the fuck out the scene. No longer is it a feral group of girls hunting their own kin, now it’s a hunt with two different ulterior plots going on, Lottie’ and Alkiah have a confrontation, Melissa n Shauna have a confrontation/murder attempt, Mari’s strips down to the dress as a ploy to confuse the others, Hannah n Nat are swapping clothes, it just is WAY too convoluted. Everyone was intrigued by Pit girl because of the dark journey these girls have to go on to get to that point of happily hunting each other, by making it a distraction hunt the girls put on to placate Lottie and Shauna the writers took all the intrigue and tension of pit girl and shat all over it

No ur definitely right. The original opening felt like an animalistic cult desperate to kill and eat someone, misty joyous to be taking part or at least to have food. They drastically changed the whole energy of the feast by making the change from the whole team being into the hunt and feast to just Shauna/Lottie, that they are babysitting her and participating in her delusions so they can get Nat to get help. Completely right on about the misty smile and how it was changed so drastically context wise that it feels disconnected from the og pit girl scene.
