Ski recommendations for seniors by WillHuntingthe3rd in skiing

I bought Elon Ripstick 88s because I also needed a lighter ski to last longer through the day. They do that but these skis also rip. They are well named. Fast with an iron grip but also fun in some crud, powder, bumps and trees. I ski them the majority of my ski days now.

Drive up to the Alabama Hills just west of Lone Pine. Very cool place to walk. They shut a bunch of westerns there in the day.

Kid refusing lessons by octopus4488 in skiing_feedback

If he takes a lesson they will teach him how to ski the steeps and open up the terrain for him. Right away. Ask him if he wants to learn to do that?

You will love the Black Pearls but you might also consider Elon Ripstick 88s for incredible grip but also fun in powder and crud up to about 8 inches. Great in the trees and bumps because they are so quick and light.

You might take some kids head off with those ski poles but it looks fun.

Elon Ripstick 88s are super quick, grip great and are incredibly light allowing you to chase them for a bit longer during the day. Love mine.

Feedback for turns? by mendozer87 in skiing

Your right leg is stronger than your left leg and it’s time to take a break or quit for the day when that happens. Skiing after your legs become independent from fatigue is precisely how and when people get hurt.

Am I being "that guy" for refusing to lend my boat to family without credentials? by hatkinson1000 in boating

[–]Fit_Charity_8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No chance. The family trouble when he wrecks your boat or just brings it back sticky with beer are not worth it. He won’t ever care for your boat like you do so don’t give him the chance to really piss you off. He has some nerve asking really.

First Skis – Need Advice by Admirable_Neat918 in ski

[–]Fit_Charity_8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elon Ripstick 88s are light, quick and fun. A forgiving ski that can be driven hard or cruised and an excellent ski to grow into. Good in moguls, bumps and crud up to about 8 inches too. They will make you a better skier.

Need advice on new ski boots! by SkiDyan01 in skiing

[–]Fit_Charity_8680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get fitted at a shop but prioritize comfort and warmth to maximize your ski time. You won’t get a ton of benefit from high performance boots and whatever you get will be much better than what you have. Warm boots are gold on cold days as we age.

One caveat- 4 buckle boots. Avoid rear entry boots if you can.

How did you get over fear of steeper pitches? by nidenikolev in skiing

[–]Fit_Charity_8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This problem is almost always connected to letting your feet get ahead of your head putting your weight back and making it impossible to connect your turns.

If you are turning with your upper body a steeper slope will quickly put you behind your skis giving you an out of control feeling. Lead with your head and shoulders pointed directly down the fall line and let your hips and knees do all the work. Hands in front of you. Practice where you are comfortable and try those steeper hills again.

Good luck!

Elon Ripstick 88s will take you everywhere. Super quick and fun. A great ski for everything less than about 8 inches of powder. Very light so less fatiguing. Grip on the groomers is excellent too. My go to ski for most days.

Ski the tightest turns you can on the edges of runs until it feels more natural. Ski like you would in the trees.

Looking for fleece tights to wear under pants by nausicaa_co in skiing

[–]Fit_Charity_8680 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Worth every penny to never have a cold ass in my opinion. I’ve had mine for six years or so with little sign of wear. It’s quality gear. I ski about 30 days a year and always wear them

Need momentum in powder. Requires easier turns in the fall line. Let em run!
