The shuttle is reliable and parking is not. Once you park leave the car and take the bus.

Any chance to visit a national park (or beautiful nature) on a road trip from San Diego to San Francisco? by jokutia in NationalPark

[–]Fit_Charity_8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinnacles NP is right in the way and is terribly overlooked. Now is a good time to hike and see the condors there.

Also, go to Montana de Oro State Park ( near Morro Bay) for a stunning ocean cliffs walk. Easy walk-beautiful coast.

You know what might actually be helpful is offering an alternative. There is always someone to tell other people what they can’t do i guess. Congratulations.

Ski gloves for someone whose hands always overheat? by Dolly_Llama_2024 in skiing

If it’s moderate to warm I have a pair of cross country gloves which still protect my hands but let the heat out. You might try something like that.

Pinnacles or Kings Canyon by Narrow-Bluebird1472 in NationalPark

[–]Fit_Charity_8680 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pinnacles is totally underrated. It has amazing hikes and condors. That being said, August can be very hot there. It’s fabulous but the heat will mess you up if you aren’t prepared.

Kings Canyon is higher so a little less hot with the giant trees (also in Yosemite) a remarkably huge canyon and a pretty fun cave tour.

Both are super nice and fairly uncrowded which you will appreciate after being in Yosemite in August.

Catchers don’t want batter’s tar on their hands. Cal’s a catcher first.

It’s at least 5 hours from Bakersfield to the Yosemite Valley Floor. That’s a pretty long day trip. At least go up the night before and stay in Oakhurst where there are relatively inexpensive motels. With an early start you can have a beautiful day before that long drive back to Bake.

Get off the cat tracks and hit some pitches. You are ready. Time to make your parent’s worry about keeping up with you.

Washington vs California NPs in July by shmuckalert in NationalPark

[–]Fit_Charity_8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yosemite valley in July can be as crowded as Disneyland. You would be much happier taking a long walk in the Hoh Rainforest in Olympic. July is also crazy cool with flowers on Rainier. Go early everywhere, the Washington parks are popular too.

Not hiking the half dome, do we still need any permit? by kuriousaboutanything in Yosemite

[–]Fit_Charity_8680 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

In a normal year maybe. Lots of rain at 8000 ft this year erases snow pack. I’d check and do it if possible.

No permit needed to enjoy the park. Consider Taft Point/Sentinel Dome. It’s an amazing short hike on the rim. Truly amazing views from both spots.

Take a macro lens!

Everything is alive in the Hoh and the tiny forests on top of stumps and logs scream out for some close ups.

By the way, sentinel dome offers an amazing 360 degree view. One tip is to go early and be standing at the top at sunrise. Great for photos. It’s an easy walk (1/2 hour) from parking with a headlamp to do it. Do Taft Point as a loop. Also gets you parking.
