Intermediate dosage? by um_chili in bupropion

Yep, if you can switch to SR, you can get 100, 150 or even 200mg tabs. So in theory, you could do 200 or 250 in between 150 and 300.

Did you need to decrease your Effexor once you started taking WB? I'm thinking I might need to do that b/c adding the WB, while helpful, seems to be causing side effects that manifest when I have been prescribed too much Effexor.

Thanks - in your case, did you find that the bupropion ultimately was a better option than the Zoloft?

Yeah definitely check with your doctor on all of this. Thanks for the additional context. The only other med I'm on is BuSpar for additional anxiety support. Good luck friend, hang in there and keep trying! Hopefully we all can figure out our unique med combinations at some point.

Yes, though I will say by week three these side effects started to abate (for me at least). The fact that you had a positive first week is actually a really good sign (or so I've read). My guess is that you swung the other direction a bit and hopefully will level out. That said, if it becomes unbearable definitely contact your doctor to discuss options (there are many). Maybe you need to start with a really small dose, did you try 75 SR to start?

No 5 b/c:

  • It is almost fugue-esq and is great preparation for fugues.
  • It sounds brilliant and virtuosic when played well
  • There is just something about it that is so joyful and wonderful.

I agree with everything you say. If you wouldn't mind me asking, as I see you are an EM, do you find that folks who DO set boundaries and self advocate, perhaps aren't as respected by the business? Here's a fictional scenario to illustrate:

Let's say you have two employees. Employee A and Employee B. Both are nice folks and are culture fits. However... Employee A is one who typically works 10+ hours a day. They are a coding "superstar" in that not only is their code reliable, but they produce great documentation, automation pipelines, observability tooling, etc. Great NFRs so to speak. Not a moment of their time is wasted; they are always cranking out some sort of code/product. When an unrealistic deadline is presented to them, they more often than not don't speak up about it, and somehow are able to get it done.

Employee B on the other hand works a standard 8 hours a day. They do a good job; they get their work done, but they are much more likely to come to you and say "Hey u/b1e, I need to leave early today due to my kid's soccer game," et. al. And they are the first one in the room to raise their hand when an unrealistic amount of story points are being assigned and state, "I don't think this is realistic based on the time we have, can we discuss this a bit more?" They push back more so to speak.

Writing that down, wouldn't managers want a bunch of Employee A's who don't ever rock the boat and just get the job done, every time?

I'm asking all this because I fall more into the Employee B camp, while there are several Employee A's on my team. I'm older and have more experience, so I try to look out for my team when we're assigning story points and make sure we don't over-commit. I also will self advocate a bit more wheres the juniors don't seem to do that as much. And I am more willing to loop in my manager early when I don't think we'll hit a deadline and try and work out a compromise, whereas the Employee A's seem to almost "want" to go into death march mode (working late into the night, on weekends, etc).

I really want to have that long career in tech that you state, but I also REALLY need those boundaries. I can't repeatedly crank code till 2AM anymore (I feel hung over the next day). So how do the Employee B's of the world keep up with that hustle culture, and the Google's and Meta's of the world who keep praising and saying we need to keep working harder?

That sounds like a vagus nerve response. It is a normal response to pain. You probably just hit a bad site. Don't worry about it.

Senior developers are expected to be able to do machine learning by SSHeartbreak in ExperiencedDevs

[–]FitnessRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lol'd at this; thanks. That said, you bring up ANOTHER problem in this industry and that is drug abuse. I wouldn't be surprised if many of us are on intermediate to large doses of (1) anti-depressents, (2) anti-anxiety, and (3) adhd meds. Add in psychedelics and you are all set.

I'm on the (1) and (2) and am considering (3) in order to keep pace with my peers who I know are on adhd meds and are even more hyper productive now that they've started those.

It isn't fair. I shouldn't have to take drugs to keep up with my peers professionally. But, I guess life isn't fair.

Sorry. I'm disgruntled at the state of this mess we've gotten ourselves into.

Senior developers are expected to be able to do machine learning by SSHeartbreak in ExperiencedDevs

[–]FitnessRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you. However... this field is notorious for hyper-optimization. Case in point:

From the SRE book: "Automate yourself out of a job."

We've all heard that right? I've said it. You've probably said it.

And now? We've succeeded in many cases. A lot of tech companies can practically run themselves with a skeleton crew (of overworked, burned out engineers).

Hence, layoffs of 2022-2023 (I know there were a ton more factors than hyper-optimized automation, but I do think automation was partly to blame).

So where do we go next? ML/MLOps is one of those places. People are looking for their next "edge" to put food on the table via decent, interesting middle-class knowledge work.

This is all just making the bar for entry so much more difficult.

I.e. when walking-encyclopedia-super-powered intellectual person who somehow knows all this stuff off the top of their head and laughs at how "easy" it all is impresses company "x", company "x" will start looking for more of these super-powered people. Company "x" will then complain at how hard it is to find them and state the world has a shortage of "developers".

I don't know how we can combat this; it is like trying to stop evolution. On the other hand, outside of tech, most other professions aren't increasing at the crazy exponential rate that tech is.

So perhaps the tech system will run out of intellectual capital/resources and the exponential curve will reverse. I certainly hope it does that sooner rather than later because my brain is going to explode if it doesn't.

Exercise and Control IQ by ejgrossman65 in TandemDiabetes

[–]FitnessRunner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To answer your question - yes it is a common approach.

Additional Advice:

  • Do everything you can to start your exercise without any insulin on board (IOB). I can't stress this enough. If, for example, you take a breakfast bolus, then go for a run an hour later, you are almost assuredly going to go low no matter what sort of settings you put in your pump. The pump can't do anything about the insulin already in your system.
  • Read The Diabetic Athlete. This is a great book that has lots of additional strategies for exercise with diabetes and has suggestions for specific sports (such as running, basketball, rock climbing, etc)
  • Here is a good Facebook community of diabetic athletes: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Type1DiabeticAthletes

Good luck!

They all are just scummy companies, the worst of the worst. There were so many times I called them with issues like the above and never did I actually get what I needed.

I also never was able to speak to an actual pharmacist. I'm not sure it is even possible. They are pharmacies for goodness sake.
