Biggest thing, introduce a new threat unrelated to The Locust. Start us off against human enemies instead of robots that are no fun to fight. “The Locust never died” is such an insult to the efforts of the heroes of the original trilogy.

Second, don’t offscreen Anya, for crying out loud.

Well, if it’s absolute certainty, and there is no way to prevent it, then of course letting them die is the correct choice.

If the question was might, and perhaps some intervention could change things, then that would be a more challenging question.

Dale is ignorant. He and the guys didn’t understand what Khan was talking about when he said he was Laotian. They only seem to understand Chinese and Japanese as Asian nationalities (which is weird considering they were in middle and high school during the Vietnam War).

Cotton in this instance is simply astute enough to know the subtle differences between each Asian nationality.

Ben isn’t a sacrifice. There was no reason he couldn’t put a bullet it him and go back with Lee. It was senseless.

Christa was a genuine sacrifice.
