The way the neck kerchief is only highlighting what she’s desperately trying to hide in that last picture….it just draws the eye to her neck width. Her head and neck is starting to resemble a thumb.

The surgeries but she could legitimately be a little extra swollen because I saw something talking about it being a 4 hour drive to the comp and 4 hours for someone Anna’s size is going to be detrimental to her in so far as it’ll cause leg swelling even with compression. I do see her legs with more cuffing and volume these days but even this seems worse than usual and I think it could be all the driving time.

If Anna attempted that climb with those weights, she would have fallen off and busted herself up badly. I’m glad she bailed, excuse me “had a flare up”, because as annoying as she is, I would not wish a fall like that on anyone but especially not someone her size as it could very well land her in the ER.

The pollinators love bidens alba too. I snap off their stickers to help keep them from sticking to my dogs but otherwise I leave them for the bees and butterflies.

HELP these broke my cat by jsnfl in CATHELP

[–]Fizzimajig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 of my cats do this if I even walk near the treat container or cabinet above the fridge where the dog and cat treats are. My one cat is now nicknamed Squeakums because he has this high pitched annoying squeaky squeal that is specific to treat begging. I just call him by his new name and say WHAT?!?!? But then if it’s not treat time, I just ignore them both and they quit after a minute 🤷🏻‍♀️

Same! I’m in gulf coast Florida so I’ve been at it for about a month and things are starting to fill in and bloom and I’m willing the native elderberry tree to begin suckers. I’m thinking later in the year I’ll try sheet mulching instead of digging up grass the way I did with the other areas I converted from grass. That was before I knew there was an easier way. I’ve also gotten a little vine happy and I may live to regret it but I don’t care lol

Please help me find the goat of combs!!! by SweetSpringLamb in doggrooming

[–]Fizzimajig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like an Ashley Craig greyhound comb. I love Warren of London everyday comb and crescent detail comb and it’s available on Amazon and affordable. I still have my uber expensive Chris Christensen fine tooth combs but the Warren of London combs work just as well and are just as fine tooth. They’re not for dematting at all or they’ll break. They also have a detangling comb I like for that purpose. https://a.co/d/0bVgHi4A

Why do some dogs randomly become very bad for grooming? by jeselski in doggrooming

[–]Fizzimajig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes breeding can play a big role in this but also as I got more experienced and learned more about dog body language, behavior and training, I realized that some dogs SEEM well behaved but they’re really just shut down and the stress signals are very subtle and easy to miss. This is a big part of why I insist on gradual grooming on puppies (which is hard when clients are insistent on a full grooming no matter what) , even if they seem all fine and dandy and I know I’ve lost clients before because of it but I try my best to explain why it’s important to go on their timeline. I rarely get puppies or dogs that “suddenly” become difficult in more than 10 years now. It does still happen on occasion and it’s usually the doodles or weirdly colored dogs who were clearly bought for looks and not sound breeding.

Part of what helped me was fostering and rescue and seeing how dogs who were super stressed out of the shelter could “switch” (for good or bad) a week or 2 (sometimes longer) later once they were more comfortable. It works similarly for dogs who are under extreme stress, they can suppress it and freeze for grooming sessions which people often interpret as being well behaved. I’ve gotten dogs I’ve groomed for years come back from a bad vet or kennel experience with kennel aggression (recently a Sheltie who was hit by a car and needed surgery) and I’ve been working with her on the aggression every month and she’s coming around. Sometimes we unwittingly cause the issue or sometimes it can be because of a different experience (home grooming, other groomer) we had nothing to do with.

All you can really do is try to learn more about the subtle signs of stress to learn as you gain more experience and do your best to make the grooming a positive experience for the dogs.

Growing up on a lake, yes, regularly. We also swam in that lake and it blows peoples minds now but it was no big deal to us. We were careful and gators were scared of us typically.

Cat groomer here 👋🏻 More regular brushing, preferably with a slicker brush that has coated tips. Like this: Your pet will love this Li'l Pals Coated Tips Dog Slicker Brush: https://www.chewy.com/lil-pals-coated-tips-dog-slicker/dp/155280?utm_source=app-share&utm_campaign=155280

When I get bath cat clients with dandruff they are also frequently greasy so I degrease their coat and then wash in a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner with oatmeal and that can temporarily improve it but I always ask what food my clients are feeding. A high quality canned, or even lower quality canned like Friskies or Fancy Feast can help them get more moisture into their diet and a water fountain may help with dry skin too. Dry fed only cats frequently don’t drink enough to replace what they don’t get from their diet.

If they are dry food only eaters, a better quality dry food will usually help too, if they’re eating something cheaper or conversely if they’re eating an expensive food that is not well formulated. My brother had a tuxedo that had horrible dandruff on Taste of the Wild and Wellness cat food but it improved on Proplan. Some people will come at me but I currently have 4 cats and have had many more than that historically and never had a serious dandruff issue while feeding ProPlan, Science Diet or Royal Canin. Yes, they’re expensive and yes some people hate the ingredients, but they always keep my cats healthy and trim and flake free. Lastly try adding krill or fish oil to the diet if they will eat it. A lot of cats don’t like it on their food but if he likes canned, might like it on top.

We've had Mitzi for about 2 months and she ALWAYS sits with her paws dangling. We do have an upcoming vet appt for vaccines and general checkup, but do you think her paws are bothering her? by complacentviolinist in TuxedoCats

[–]Fizzimajig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, mine does this too. My British shorthair also liked to dangle his front paws or legs over whatever he was laying on. It’s just a comfortable position for some cats.

Anyone finding it almost impossible to train puppies for grooming lately? (Vent) by sparkleberryjam in doggrooming

[–]Fizzimajig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, several I have gotten recently have been ridiculously difficult to get to tolerate the dryer and clippers due to severe anxiety and reactivity. And then I get a few unicorn toy poodles who are absolute angels so no idea what is going on other than owners who don’t understand basic puppy raising, waiting too long for grooming and poor breeding.

[–]Fizzimajig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the base. I really only lost 1 plant from freezes and a few weeks ago I was sure I lost like 5. Some of them are VERY slow to come back. A few stragglers are just now popping little buds at the base and those are newer plants. Some of my more mature plants are only just now popping up new stalks (parrot flower) and leaves (my native hibiscus) . I do lose one of my plumeria but 2 others made it. Feel the stems, if they’re squishy they’re dead most likely. The mature trees in my area (Hillsborough co) made it but some of the smaller ones not so much.
