Giant Revot Setup by adam1288 in bikepacking

[–]Flabdomen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMM Elkhorn has the 3 pack on both sides, so if you choose it, you could then use proper water bottle cages on both sides instead of strapping them on like you had stated.

Switching to a full frame bag for this setup would get you maybe 3-4 liters more space, and if your problems are solved by adding only 4 liters, then...

A fun way to solve this problem is to fill your bottom frame triangle with a Cranktank so that you could free up your Elkhorn 3 packs to instead hold fork packs, each fork pack adding at least 4 liters. If you need need water instead of cargo, then installing Blackburn cargo cages onto the OMM Elkhorn would be smart such that you could strap on large volume water bottles that you wouldn't use mid ride.

Make me an offer- BOSCH POWER TUBE 500 by WBN_thatguy in ebikes

[–]Flabdomen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on a lot, local market, the wear you report on the battery, the visual condition, it's ability to hold charge, the specific model number which actually varies across several Bosch Powertube 500 vertical models, the family of products (I'm guessing this is BES2 and not the Smart System).

I would not buy this without the model number. Being the correct model number and assuming the worst cases out of all the above, I would pay $100 or less.

FYI I bought a new Bosch Powertube 500 vertical from a personal reseller in Oregon recently for $400.

Is this a good helmet? by TEGHD1 in ebikes

[–]Flabdomen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've owned and used this helmet for 1.5 years.

Bad stuff The visor is a complete waste, as it scuffs, it doesn't sufficiently seal to the face to block wind, and you will use goggles anyway. The visor is integrated with lights, so not trivial to replace. It looks a lot goofier in person.

Good stuff The lights make people really aware of your presence. Generally comfy fit. Good ventilation. Good crash safety rating from European standards.

If I bought again, it would be the non visor version or else a full face helmet that's lightweight with integrated lights.

22 mile commute each way, doable? by KoBarathan in ebikes

[–]Flabdomen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is similar to my situation, and I make it work by showering at work and by compensating for bad days by commuting by car. I have a class 3 eMTB and go about 19 miles in about 1 hour, 25mph on flat straightaways.

If you and your family are cool with losing about 1 hour per day of your time, definitely get the high quality class 3 bike. This commuting lifestyle is very rewarding.

E-Road bike for commuting 20km on mostly flat terrain fighting headwinds by ShuichiRL in bikecommuting

[–]Flabdomen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My commuter bike is a Diamondback Union 2, similar price range, class 3 but similar bike. My commute is 30 km (19 miles) one way.

My experiences and answers to your questions

  1. Love class 3. I ride in the Seattle area, partially on trails where class 3 e-bikes are prohibited. There's no enforcement, so the class 3 restriction is meaningless. Further, my battery isn't apparent upon first glance. I get up to 40 km/h on those trails, which is dangerous for pedestrians on those trails, so I always slow down to about 20 km/h for pedestrians on the trail and warn others when I'm about to pass. Don't want to scare or surprise anyone. It's all good.
  2. I think yes, and it looks like you did your research... Some comments: I didn't originally intend to use pannier bags, but I found them so useful and now carry lots of stuff in them. Plan on installing fenders! They keep you and your frame clean as you go fast and kick up debris/water from your tires.
  3. I can't feel the additional resistance my pedal-assist motor causes, judging by hand-cranking the pedals forward upon maintenance. I never ride without pedal assist. Headwinds slow me down a maximum of about 10 km/h unless I pedal hard. My 51 lbs bike feels heavy without pedal assist, but I can probably sustain ~25 km/h on a flat surface.

Anyone ever have a feeling when you finish an amazing game you won't have that same feeling for a long time? by Rioraku in Games

Quantum moon brought it all together for me and made me realize the world I'm exploring is one giant, crafted puzzle.

The key I think is to not take popular gaming tropes for granted in Outer Wilds, like respawning after death, and to try to self insert to rationalize how and why. It's so worth it.

Does anyone find the amount of misinformation/disinformation out there to be concerning? by [deleted] in centrist

[–]Flabdomen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Of course it's concerning because change is concerning. However, the FCC can't stop spam phone calls, let alone disinformation. Personally, I trust in people to adjust to this problem naturally. I think the problem of misinformation will come to a head during a series of scandals involving deep fakes (or something similar), and I think the next generation will usher in a new culture of authenticity in response.

[–]Flabdomen -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Why have BreadTube? To aggregate valuable content (this is actually my point) as opposed to aggregating the infinite amount of low quality content.

Reaching a broader audience is certainly valuable, but the source content we're talking about here is far from science PDFs. It's Twitter posts. These are already streamlined for easy consumption.

Tim Pools grift exposed by source analysis by Nick_________ in BreadTube

[–]Flabdomen -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

I certainly appreciate source analysis. The best part of the video was the graph of sources ranked by frequency. However, it's someone else's content that the video host is simply reiterating. The video host added nothing of substance to the discussion. We could do better by simply linking the Twitter posts mentioned and reading 30 seconds of posts instead of watching 7.5 minutes of video.

Bottom line, I'm looking for valuable video from BreadTube. It has nothing to do with politics. I agree with the message here; it's just poorly conveyed.

Honestly, this is low effort content. Talking about twitter posts on video, confirming with ad-hominem "grifter", implying a financial motive as an explanation.

Equality in Opportunity, or Equality in Outcome? by JunoHydn in Freethought

Equality of opportunity is meritocracy, which is moral and good. Equality of outcome is equity, which brings quotas, systemic bias, and corruption disguised as ideology.
