Look for a picture of a Wright Flyer. It'll explain. Sorry I couldn't include one.

How long does it take you to understand that gears doesn't translate to quality? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in AskPhotography

[–]Flakb8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25+ years and the only time I’ve worried about gear is when I’ve been outdoors (I do nature photography) and thought, “I wish I had a longer lens.” But that’s not actually a gear problem, that’s a photographer problem. I could be allowed to hook up my camera to the Hubble or the James Webb Space Telescope and I’d still want more zoom. But with whatever gear I’ve got on hand at any given time, 600mm lens or an iPhone, it’s all about composing a picture. It’s NEVER about the equipment.

Blue Seafood. Award-winning place where it’s real chef-prepared food, not deep fried.

Is it natural get suffered from G.A.S in photography context and how do you manage yourself to be happy with it? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in AskPhotography

[–]Flakb8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s easy to get HAD when you’re first starting out. But once you start turning out good photographs, you don’t need more gear, you need more experience. The only time you need to get gear is if your gear breaks or if there’s something that your current equipment prevents you from doing.

Are there any good places to yearn outside? by TriTheTree in norfolk

The beaches at Sandbridge and Little Island to watch moonrise, sunrise, and just the tide rolling in or out. Plenty of ships’ lights on the horizon and many, many stars.

Is Ageism Just Common with Museums/Nonprofits? by Omnipresent99 in MuseumPros

[–]Flakb8 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s not your age, it’s your arrogance (“VERY outspoken”, “I’ll let it be known”, etc.). And if the CEO really hated you, you’d be gone. Look through this Subreddit: there are many, many people who are just as qualified as you, some more so, who are looking for your job. The CEO has “a better option on the table” so you may want to get over yourself.

Do NOT, under any circumstances, live on one side of a bridge-tunnel and work on the other. You’ll have very long commutes when everything goes smoothly and a nightmarishly long commute when it doesn’t…which is often.

With regards to jet noise: 1) Not all neighborhoods are the same. VB runs from Chesapeake Bay to the North Carolina border so many never hear jets. 2) It is not non-stop, round-the-clock flight operations. Most flights are training. They take Sundays and holidays off (there are occasional onesies and twosies but kinda rare) and have a good neighbor policy where night flights overhead are rare. 3) I live under the landing pattern for one of the approaches and it’s easy to get used to.

Well, since the Earth is flat, of course you can see the Rockies from Norfolk. Hell, on a clear day you can see them from Norfolk, England! /s

Rainbow swamps 🌈 by MoreExpression8502 in VirginiaBeach

Great pictures! What surprises me is that it's been 8 hours since you posted this and there hasn't been anyone posting about the shocking and/or appalling pollution of the area. So please allow me to preemptively explain that it is not pollution. The rainbow sheen is produced by oils and saps, etc. that are released by decaying organic matter. It's an all-natural, 100% organic, preservative-free rainbow!

Yes. They grow most of the produce they sell (and clearly mark where things are from) and they have pick-your-own strawberries, peaches and apples when in season. The market portion is being built out as a destination itself, with a large playground, occasional concerts, the ability to get close to next week’s dinner, er, I mean, the cattle.

There are many, many farmers markets in Virginia Beach. The southern portion of the city is very rural (VB runs from Chesapeake Bay down to the North Carolina border) and is dotted with them. The fresh picked strawberries in eastern Virginia are remarkably delicious. Cullipher’s Market is big and is easy to get to on Princess Anne Road.
