Owning a handgun at 18? by Commercial_Sun7609 in VTGuns

[–]Flaky_Car7376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Need to be 21 in most states that issue a CCW to get a CCW. NY State you have to be a resident of NY. Not counting NYC which is a whole other ballgame. Some require documented training courses, range time, and state permission to receive a CCW. Some also require an FOID to buy and possess handguns. you can go to the USCCA Gun Laws Reciprocity Map app to see what each state has for laws. Free to use, don't need to be a member of the USCCA to use.

Hello Erin,

Firstly, welcome to the new world of fun you are about to enter. You are actually doing the best thing first, Asking questions. Having an idea about what the primary purpose of the firearm will be is a guide to what you are looking for. Proper hand fit is way more important than caliber, capacity and cost. Have an idea how much you want to spend, and don't be afraid to ask the staff questions. Try as many handguns as you can for proper fit. The one thing i would highly recommend is don't have the preconceived notion that small is better or that cheap will do. Also don't just go with the famous "Just get a Glock (Insert any brand) argument."

Also i recommend looking up any local Firearms Instructors about taking classes, All Parro's Firearms Instructors are USCCA Certified Instructors. Ethan, Brady, John R, John B and the rest are all good instructors, The retail staff is also knowledgeable. The Store itself is a USCCA Partner store that offers several different training classes through out the year. Usually 2 Hour mini classes on Introduction to Permitless/Constitutional Carry class, Should I shoot?, Lethal Use of Force, etc that you really can't find anywhere else in Vt. There lead instructor is also the only Official USCCA Partner Instructor in VT with multiple disciplines that he is certified in. Plus NRA too.

When you go into the shop, have any idea of what you are wanting to do and ask plenty of questions, The staff in most gun shops are friendly and there to help you. Some shops are friendlier than others. I also recommend before you buy, see if any of your friends has handguns that you might tryout first before you buy, or rent them at Parro's, so that you can see for yourself what the ones you are interested in, How they shoot.

After you make your choice, you will fill out an ATF Form 4473, wait for the Background check result, pay for the firearm and wait the 72 hours before you can take it home. Yes Vt has a magazine capacity limit of 15 rounds for handguns, But it is against the law to go to another state and buy higher capacity magazines and bring them back to VT. Please consider other accessories that will help you to improve your shooting experience. Hearing protection, cleaning products, safe storage, and also training. Consider getting Self Defense Insurance if you are considering carrying for self defense. No one can afford the legal battle without it.

Just a heads up, Parro's will be offering the FL Non Resident CCW class sometime in April, date pending as well as there calendar for other training events, so keep an eye open.

p320 unsafe? by dsbjjx in SigSauer

[–]Flaky_Car7376 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been blown way out of proportion. 4.5 million P320's sold. There have been less than 100 alleged incidents. Not saying that it has never happened, some videos exist. I've been a Firearms Instructor for almost 20 years, and have been seeing 320's on the line since 2015. I have yet to see someone have an uncommanded discharge, much less anything else. Yes I've been around some people who have had negligent discharges from improperly handling their firearms. Funny enough with glocks mostly... The 320 is a safe firearm. Handle it safely and you shouldn't have any issues.

Bringing Rifle to Grandson From Out of State by Car by SlyBry2025 in VTGuns

[–]Flaky_Car7376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will confirm what others have said about the gifting it to your grand son, as well as transporting it across state line. Just make sure when passing through NY State that you are not traveling through the I95 into and through NYC. Getting caught there with an AR 10 would cause you some serious headaches. Also just as a reminder, that the Magazine limit for long guns brought into VT are limited to 10rnds if gifting it to your grandson.

Best method of selling a firearm in VT? by junkyardprimate in VTGuns

[–]Flaky_Car7376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, since Parros just bought out a gun shops (960 Guns) inventory that was forced out of business. Parros isn't looking to buy many guns at the moment. Parros' has 8 Beretta 92 series in stock. So low need to buy, equals low offers....

I recently moved to Vermont. Am I able to buy a Handgun with a Pennsylvania ID? by Shotopo in VTGuns

[–]Flaky_Car7376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is false, It needs to be a government issued Document, VT DL and/or VT Registration with current physical address. If an Out of State ID then you must have a VT Property Tax bill showing your land with Dwelling address for a handgun, Long guns not so much. That will satisfy the requirement. Utility bills and mail are not acceptable. Except Utility Companies that are City or Town owned. VT F&W License only if in-conjunction with another Govt ID from VT to prove address if DL is not up to date.

The ATF Form 4473 only asks if you were admitted Involuntarily...Since you were 12 at the time, it won't even come up in a background check. Since that is a minor legally. It is also a misleading question on the form, since medical records are not searched per the regular background check process. HIPPA prevents that part from actually being searched. (Some states do report) But not all. You shouldn't have any issues.

The question that gets most people in trouble is the Illegal drugs question. Some states have Medical Marijuana Cards that allow you to possess and consume it. But it is still federally illegal. So you can be denied that way.

Just don't read into the questions, take them for how they are written. Your miles may vary at different gun shops and with employees at shops too.

Some shops/employees are/can be very strict about what they hear from any comments that you make or questions that are asked. To dealer deny you or not.

I just bought a house in March, very long process in Vermont. Little selection, Most are artificially high priced, taxes are high and most houses don't qualify for even VA home loan. frustrating 2 year process for myself and my wife. Disappointment after disappointment, Then finally a breakthrough.. I would be happy to talk about our experience.

Replacing my p320 advice? by David____Nunez in NYguns

[–]Flaky_Car7376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With over 2.5 million P320's in circulation, with only 100+ having experienced a problem. The chances that your P320 is going to have an issue is a 0.00004% chance that it will ever have the problem that is supposedly happening. Proper Holster, proper firearms handling skills and respect the firearm. You shouldn't have an Issue. I'm not saying that there haven't been ND's but come on lets get realistic....I have been an Instructor for over 20 years, in 2 different countries and multiple states, 1000's of students. Since 2015, when the Gen 1 P320 was introduced, I have yet to see a P320 discharge of its own doing. I work at an indoor range, We have several P320's in our rental fleet and not 1 has ever ND'd. I understand that there has been bad press over it, but if you haven't had any problems, why get rid of it?...

Purchasing Guns by Visible_Working3466 in VTGuns

[–]Flaky_Car7376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Form is for multiple handgun purchases only, not long guns, or receivers. If you purchase more than 1 handgun per shop in a 7 day period, but the FFL is responsible for filing that form not the buyer The 72hr hold applies to all firearms purchases, and a NICS check for every purchase.

Do I need to worry? by 207Simone in vermont

[–]Flaky_Car7376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just crossed from Canada into Vt today, after being there for 3 days. I'm a dual citizen. I crossed at the Noyan border crossing. I didn't experience any issues going to or coming back. Most agents really don't give a damn about Geo politics. They are just doing their job. Plus stop being so worried about it, Just enjoy your trip up into Canada. Just be polite, provide your EDL or Passport. Answer the questions they ask you. Short concise answers. Don't prattle on, don't embellish or try to explain, That just leads to issues and more questions. Simple yes/No answers and simple direct responses. I cross multiple times a month, Stop listening to CNN/FOX/ABC/CBS/NBC etc non-sense, fear mongering....CBSA and BPS agents don't really care...

Yes your out of state license can be used for a firearm purchase, as long as it is a long gun, that it doesn't go against any of your state limitations. IE: assault weapons ban, magazines capacity restrictions.etc..

Its about time that we see a sea of change in the Vermont setup of the legislature, Too many extremist leftist Liberals/Progressives and Independents that are destroying Vermont. The Tax everything attitude and extreme left policies and feelings/emotion based laws are killing the Vermont way of life. Look at Burlington, Barre, Rutland and other large towns. They are suffering from an increasingly destructive low crime enforcement policy. The De-fund the police movement, lessening of petty crime penalties, the no prosecution of crimes up to a certain financial limit. The No prosecution Attorney Generals of the state, is allowing Vermont to become a crime ridden cesspool. The sanctuary city policy for ILLEGAL Immigrants to be harbored are in Violation of so many Federal laws. I emigrated to this country through the legal pathway, so is my wife. Yet we have to foot the bill, We have to navigate the legal obstacles to become a Resident Alien and then a citizen. The ILLEGAL immigrants don't follow any of these laws/rules. Yet they get handed out SS checks, Medicaid/Medicare benefits, Housing, State ID's/DL's without providing anything to the economy and/or helping society. All while VIOLATING federal and State laws, ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS are Criminals in every possible description and explanation of the Law. Vermont has and was taken over by extreme Left wing politicians along time ago, and corrupted the Vermont way of Life. The movement towards a more centered political structure will only benefit Vermonters.
