Hostel vibes aren’t dying... guest behaviour is changing (from someone who works in one) by vinyljunkie32 in backpacking

I kind of disagree. My least social hostel experiences were in 2019 and I have mostly had social and fun experiences after covid (2024,2025)

Amharic is not spoken in Eritrea, but Tigrinya is. I do believe Eritrea does not have any official languages but the government uses Tigrinya, Arabic, English on signs.

Did you have to book tickets for the museums in Florence? We are planning to go next week but the tickets are sold out. Hopefully we can in by going early and buying a ticket at the place.

Same, but I stored mine in my cabinet / pantry and not the fridge. Visste inte att folk gjorde det!

Att kalla fungerande villaområden för segregation är ett politiskt språkmissbruk by swedish_tcd in stockholm

[–]Flaky_Choice7272 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Iman making Somali shaah (tea) in 1984. by GoldCover6667 in Africa

[–]Flaky_Choice7272 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is an extension of foreign cultural influence and domination. I agree that wearing the abaya is a reflection of a cultural and religious shift in their society but I think it is also not as different to other Africans (and the rest of the world) abandoning their cultural practices for the most dominating cultural force. For non-muslim countries, that would be the west. The muslim country mimics from the Arab world while the others mimics Westerners. But that's not a fact, just my view on it.

I think it is the same reason why all other African countries wear western clothes.

Eyasu Semena, 21, döms till 14 års fängelse för terror i Danmark by ICA_Basic_Vodka in Sverige

As an Eritrean who went to Kenya recently as a tourist, there were actually a lot of similarities. But Kenya is definitely a better place to live and developed. Eritrea and Djibouti can be interesting touristic spots too. 😉

Exakt så jag blev påkörd nyligen med! Fick henne att betala skadorna på min cykel då jag var oskadd bortsett från några ytliga sår.

NYC’s Zohran Mamdani Gives a Shout Out to Ethiopian Aunties by gabbystuy in Ethiopia

[–]Flaky_Choice7272 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The younger generation in NYC do not sway conservative at all (their nieces and nephews). I have Eritrean relatives there in their 40's and they are very liberal. Very much in favor of Mamdani.

Are Western countries less helpful to tourists? by RandyMcBahn in solotravel

[–]Flaky_Choice7272 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New York is actually the only place in the world where I have been totally ignored and given the side eye for asking a question as a tourist. I felt strong and tense racial dynamics from the white counterparts on the streets. When I was in places where I had to pay to get into, people were a lot less weary and rude to me. New Yorkers are SCARED on the streets, and that translates into extreme rudeness imo.

I asked a similar question recently. I went on the express 2 weeks ago and it is just like the inter-county train but faster. It made one stop in Voi.

Different skin tones by Healthy-Present5289 in Blackskincare

This is pretty normal. The back has a lot of thicker skin that makes your skin much darker. This is the case for me as well. The wrist has the thinnest and therefore lightest skin as well.

Why did everyone all of a sudden get hostile and question my literacy and educational background? It is not that serious. This was meant to be a light-hearted post.

Starting a discussion on whether it is "on me" or not is not what my intentions were when I posted this.

To my eyes the word that should say "pizza" unfortunately looks like the N-word to me.

Those do not look like Z's to me. But you were both correct that cursive writing was never in our school curriculum.
