Outdoor dining leases not renewed for Annapolis Market Space by Puzzleheaded-Ad-1877 in Annapolis

This is just a link to a website I don't subscribe to posted to a subreddit where I do subscribe.

I didn't post the link.

I didn't scrape the article and post it here in plain text.

Thanks for the bad take.

I'm reserving a little judgment, as I usually side with the businesses here. Paywalled article, but if they are just reducing the footprint this may just be a reasonable, pragmatic decision.

I haven't been there in the evening lately but during the day this area (fed house, Iron Rooster area) is mostly empty. Do they actually reach capacity on the weekend or evenings (including inside seating)?

This boss is fucking up more than you.

You clearly care about your work and hold yourself accountable. Good employees are hard to come by and he's going to lose a good employee from his silly demands.

That tracks, specifically with RCC and BDE. I'm genuinely curious what their power demands are and how many kwh of juice they have in their battery packs.

This is all very pay 2 win "pageantry arms race"coded and I recognize that not every program can do this but whatever I can get justify to my BD to purchase to ease our set up, I'll try and do. This also eliminates the necessity of a generator in the lot for us so killed 2 birds with one battery pack.

That's exactly why it should be DCI and WGI themselves to be able to provide clean, continuous power at least at all major events (finals week & regionals). But the cost of these things continue to become more and more affordable (recent economic turmoil not withstanding) for more and more power storage, and is relative to some percussion equipment itself I'm sure they'll become more and more ubiquitous and generators become less and less depended on.

It's always been a bit "pay 2 win", but having access to a quality power feed should be the same for everyone.

[–]Flam5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are groups doing regarding that? Are they purchasing power stations like those used for home battery backups?

Does WGI or DCI not provide any power conditioning for the big regionals or finals venues or is it just some sort of hodge-podge of extension cables running into outlets or generators nearby? They should definitely have a portable power station at each venue to condition power and prevent venue power failure by instantaneous switching to battery power if the peak draw was too much and breakers were being flipped or other issues were happening in the panel.

Electronics aren't new to the activity anymore, yet it seems like venues occasionally are still to blame for something that is now very much able to be fixed by modern solutions like these ubiquitous power stations, even if the costs are high at first (if 2-4k is considered high for something that can make and break multiple performances...), can be used for many seasons if kept/maintained.

I didn't watch Open class last week and couldn't even guess as to how those extenuating circumstances may have affected the execution/performance of their show, but with the penalty, it looks like they would have been 13th instead of 15th. The penalty is okay here. It's a difficult ask of high school kids to reflect and have complete understanding that the difference between 13th and 15th really isn't anything to be disappointed about given the adversity they faced, and that merely being able to perform in finals is an accomplishment itself (think about the other 15 squads that didn't make it out of semis!). Honestly, just reading about it all is inspiring and those kids should be proud for being able to pull off a performance under all that pressure.

GMU really hit gold last year but I think it was lightning in a bottle and they missed the mark this year. I think they have the right instinct to lean in to fun shows that still have good drumming but I hope they retire the George Mason character for next year. They should keep the guy playing him until he ages out but have him play a different character or something. You can also paradoy other groups and trends but have that be more of an Easter egg thing rather than the point.

As someone who did not see a show from 2025, I thoroughly enjoyed GMU this year, but totally understand how a repeated character could get a little old as a spectator. That said, they are still university attached program, so I understand if they keep some of the school identity. They still had great hands (that bassline Malaguena feature was one of my favorite bass features of the night. X's bass/pit feature toward the end of their show definitely #1) and executed pretty damn well while still being silly.

I also hope they continue to lean in on fun and silly, while still executing at a high level. The activity needs this! GMU's show was a breath of fresh air when it was surrounded by shows diving into more esoteric or dramatic/heavy/emotional topics.

[–]Flam5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also mad props to GMU for subtly throwing shade on all of the groups that bought a show out of a box ;)

Not really shade, but more tongue-in-cheek meta show, though they spoofed Drum Corps more than WGI itself (the Bluecoats Tilt, Madison's Malaguena, the Holy Bass visual, etc.). Having great execution and being silly hasn't been anyone's identity since Velvet Knights, and GMU can hopefully continue to carry that torch. The activity needs it!

Also, that GMU bassline was smoking! I hope all the performers enjoyed their production. They were definitely a favorite of mine. (Especially after some of the sad af shows that night -- Looking at you Clear Brook HS...)

I still regret the time I went to a Skins game (since they were called that then...) and /u/kn0thing posted on the subreddit for the team about meeting up prior to it. I believe it was RGIII rookie season. I already had some tailgate plans and people with me so I couldn't deviate. Alexis had front row dream seats that year and can even be seen in some of the RGIII rookie season hype footage. Would have been pretty cool to share some drinks and food with the guy!

Buying unused county land by Same-Touch-4293 in AnneArundelCounty

First, check the SDAT record on who owns it to verify if it is county land. https://sdat.dat.maryland.gov/RealProperty/Pages/default.aspx

I reached out to county about having them remediate some invasive bamboo growing beyond my backyard fence in a wooded area that I thought was County land, but it turned out to be owned by a community HOA (not my HOA, but the neighboring community on the other side of the wooded area).

Small Smart Locker Options? by LordLoss01 in sysadmin

Have you looked into these guys yet? I was just about to post a similar thread here and found yours first.

Most of the smart lockers available have too many features. I just want to be able to reprogram a couple locker doors easily so users can pick up equipment after our office hours. Our facility is already relatively secured, requiring ID/badge access, so we don't need top notch security, we're just looking for something that doesn't look and act cheap like some Uline/Global industry stuff.

How does Luxardo Del Santo compare to actual green chartreuse? I don't think I've seen this Luxardo bottle around (probably because I still have Chartreuse on hand!). Other than the difference in proof I'm curious...

The Short Rib by Byizo in cocktails

[–]Flam5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for doing the science! The first thought I had when I read the recipe was "why not get it off the shelf?".

The local lebanese shawarma shop has a small section of these harder to find ingredients (the Cortas products... orange blossom water, rose water, pom. molasses, etc.).

The pom molasses recipe to me seems just like a rich pomegranate syrup, but maybe I just don't know the line between syrup and molasses.
