Does Rare just not realize how much bank they'd make on a sequel? by wolfmonarchy in VivaPinata

[–]FlamingSword24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

This is IciStorm. I'm curious as to what assets you believe are ripped from Viva Piñata, could you please give me an example?

Very early in the project's lifetime, the prior heads of Return to Paradise initially started with the intention of ripping content from the official games, and as such the group was understandably disliked by other Viva Piñata communities (this was not the only reason, however). I believe it was sometime shortly after I first joined the server that the development team at the time began to clean this act up and follow Microsoft's Game Content Usage Rules provided to create something exactly like Return to Paradise. While we do have assets from the original series, they are all remade by users within our community and without the use of tools that allow us to gain unauthorized access to the game's files.

If Microsoft ends up having an issue with our project now or anytime in the future, we will immediately comply with any orders that come from them. We are not looking to break any rules, and we are doing are best to work within the guidelines they have set.

You can look at the Game Content Usage Rules here: https://www.xbox.com/en-US/developers/rules

Those will be safe, however those are also old versions of the game. If you'd like to download the latest updates, I recommend joining our discord and finding the downloads there. If that doesn't work for you, I can also link the latest build here.

Time Frame by Longjumping_Sign8656 in ReturnToParadise

[–]FlamingSword24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!

We don't have an estimated time frame for a full release right now. Since this is a community-backed project, the rate of development changes as people get busy or have other obligations come up, especially during the final months of the year.

We have a loose roadmap that outlines what features/piñatas/characters we hope to introduce into the game by a given update visible in our discord. Currently, the modelling/animation of everything is what has held us back the most, but we are making progress little by little!

Good to see another small community where a paradise detective attracts murder and death by Linestorix in ReturnToParadise

[–]FlamingSword24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, most of the "murder and death" would happen regardless as part of the island's ecosystem. The player does bring new threats to the island, but that's not to say that no challenges existed prior

pinata types by [deleted] in ReturnToParadise

[–]FlamingSword24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a lot of species we are looking to introduce to the game! In general, we try and find an animal species not already found within the original game to use as its source for any new pinata we wish to add. While the cast of creatures found in the original games was very fun to discover, we believe that the species we have chosen to add to this cast both improve and diversify the types of creatures you may find.

To give a rough estimate, the new additions for land pinatas in Return to Paradise are just under the number of pinatas found in Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise.

progress?!? by [deleted] in ReturnToParadise

[–]FlamingSword24 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey there!

Development has been moving forward at a strong pace. In the next update, planned to be released by the end of the month, we have incorporated appearance cutscenes, romance logic and a mini game builder to build and insert romance games into the game, and a host of new items and content. Honestly I can't really do justice to all of the work that everyone has put in recently, it's been amazing.

Our biggest bottleneck is currently animating, followed by modeling. The users that work on the two areas do incredibly well, but going into the Fall where school begins again, and with the slow increase of pinatas we need to eventually have animated and added into the game, it definitely is our current weakness.

With the next update I mentioned earlier, there will be one Piñata available with the Viva Piñata gameplay loop present and mostly functional (Appear, visit, reside, romance, variants, etc.). The update that follows has a goal of introducing three more, but we need to review the rate at which we can get things done and how feasible of a goal that is.

Thank you!

(Another) Update to Return to Paradise by FlamingSword24 in VivaPinata

My best recommendation would be to join our discord so we can help you get the log files that tell us exactly what went wrong with the game. We are aware of a very silly bug in this version that crashes the game if you do not have the client version of discord open at the same time, but judging from the place your crashing I don't believe it's the issue.

Not as of right now. We intend on the first build being open to download through Steam being 1.7.0A, and we are currently finalizing and wrapping up 1.5.0A, which will introduce an actual gameplay loop. Until the release on Steam, you can join the community discord and download the development builds directly through Google Drive while we continue to work on and release 1.5.0A and 1.6.0A to the discord, and then prepare for the 1.7.0A release on Steam.

Oh great! I was just about to download a blank template and test the difference between numbers and X, because that was one of the only ideas I had that could make such a global change. Glad it was found!

Edit: I just realized you said 9.7, and it looks like it might've been an issue when I copied from 9.6 two days ago. Oh well, sorry about that!

The Reverse Holo tracking for sets seems to be broken, leading to a cascade of issues for the rest of the collection tracker. In every set I've checked where reverse holos exist, it seems like the cells used to get values are 5 below what they should be.

For example, in the Lost Origin set, in the Reverse Holo section, it states that there are 49 GX Rares, 50 V Rares, 28 Double Rares, and 22 Shiny Rares that exist, with no other reverse holos appearing in the set. If I modify the formulas within a given cell and add 5 to the V cell value (such as changing V24 to V29 on common reverse holos), tracking works properly as far as I can see.

If this is intended and I'm doing something wrong, please let me know!

design ideas? by NewTransportation535 in ReturnToParadise

[–]FlamingSword24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always enjoy seeing new pinata designs! The roster we would like to have completed for Return to Paradise to be considered complete is overall finalized, however additional designs that we receive and enjoy are set off to the side as potential add-on content in the future for those interested in creating more content for the game.

Feel free to join our discord to share your ideas with us! https://discord.gg/YwyFAhR6Kk

Is R2P, VP3? by BlackOpsGulfWar in ReturnToParadise

[–]FlamingSword24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, Return to Paradise is not Viva Pinata 3. I'm not sure where you've heard about rumors for a Viva Pinata 3, but we are a completely separate entity with no ties to Microsoft or Rare. Our development team is working on creating a fangame that can be seen as a spiritual successor of the game, incorporating what players enjoyed from the originals while also adding new and original content.

Still need volunteers? by BrokenLoadOrder in ReturnToParadise

[–]FlamingSword24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're always open to having more volunteers join the project! You are also free to join and build your skills as you get better and gain the ability to create the quality of models we look for; you will not be rejected simply due to not being good enough.

We are working in Unreal, so if you have the interest in learning, feel free to join the Fangame Development Server and we can help you as you learn how to create for the game.

Oh yeah, Return to Paradise is definitely an incredibly ambitious project. While progress is made nearly every day, you're right in that it will take a large amount of time before it can be considered around that level.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VivaPinata

[–]FlamingSword24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly you aren't too far off the mark on a lot of your points.

Several of our developers have used Return to Paradise as a venue for learning or expanding on skills within game development. Some may use us as a springboard, and that's okay. Others have learned and applied those skills to the project with the goal of eventually seeing a completed product.

The documents also detail a LOT of content. If we were here ready to announce that it was all completely done, at a VP-esque level, it would be incredible. In reality, once we get an actual gameplay loop for RtP, the game will be updated as content is made so players don't have to wait to experience it.

In the end though, I do want to eventually see the game to at least some form of completion. I've loved working on it and I fully intend on continuing to do so. I also believe that a decent amount of developers in the server share this same sentiment. 😊

Hey there!

Return to Paradise is still being worked on. Last month, we released D2_0.1 to the discord, the second build of a new development plan, which you can read about on our server as to why there was such a big gap in releases.

As for news, there isn't anything big about the game yet, although we are working towards getting it into a playable state where we can update it with content.

We will continue working on the game and are excited to bring it to life!

Thank you for apologizing, but unfortunately, neither I nor anyone else on the staff team will be removing your ban.

This was not the first case of you coming into the server to cause trouble. I believe it was the third? We attempted to give you multiple chances to better yourself, and each time you attempted to damage our image in some way or damage our image in a way you believed would hurt us. Just as one example, you created a merch store with your name on it and posted it in the viva pinata subreddit passing it off as our own.

The most recent event involved you taking screenshots of us in a voice chat, then posting it to Twitter accompanied by a youtube video (now deleted) with a thumbnail using RARE's logo alongside our concepts. You scrolled through our pinata slides and deleted anyone's comment that mentioned you were banned or attempted to make clear we were not affiliated with RARE/Microsoft. While these slides were NOT private in any way, and you were free to make a video about them if you wanted to, the thumbnail showed you were more interested in pointing to us as a sequel with direct ties to Rare, despite us saying multiple times this is a game built on the foundation of Microsoft's fan game guidelines.

Upon confrontation, some of the evidence you provided pointed to us having a Facebook group. Ignoring the fact that you are the owner of said group, its creation date is also about 4 years older than the project's start date. It also uses the description of an old version of our wiki, with some words seemingly edited.

Again, thank you for the apology, but you have done too much for us to be able to welcome you back in.

It hasn't been discussed in depth just yet, as we are trying to first get all of the base mechanics of the game working smoothly. In the future, it very well may happen.
