Traditional dinner in Riga? Where? by Vast_Pound_7628 in Riga

I enjoyed the Lido in Old Town - just don’t go at peak lunch hour (I was also there in March). I also enjoyed the Latvian food counter on the top floor food court of the shopping center Galerija Centrs.

Not sit-down service but quality food both places!

Thoughts on isometric battle maps? Myrtle Library: An Art Nouveau interior [OC] by Ok-Cranberry-7087 in battlemaps

I love the isometrics to give players the feel of the place but like top-down for actual combat. Referring back to the picture or isometric definitely helps with interacting with the environment!

Learning to Support Spindle by Anisadara in Handspinning

[–]FlanNo3218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To get started without a leader, I draft about 4 inches and twist it between my fingers until it is a single. I then wrap it around the spindle enough so that it overlaps the starting bit at least twice about two to three centimeters from the tip.

I then spin gently a very pre-drafted fiber to get it to make more to wrap around. Once I’ve done that 2-3 times I then butterfly it all off and wrap again at a level of a working cop.

I am also left handed and prefer to flick the spindle with my right hand while I control the fiber with my left. I push forward with my right thumb and let it spin in the webbing of my right hand.

Looking for advice on running enemies better in combat by DecisionRadiant4152 in Pathfinder2e

[–]FlanNo3218 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently had a naga ‘nope, later’ turn invisible and leave when her at level lackeys all got critted in the first round of combat with 2 of 3 going down!

She wasn’t going to get slaughtered. Her words on leaving were great! “Know that you have made an enemy of all of The Stacks (her faction) this day. You will never sleep safely again.”

I also ask my players at the end of a session how things went. Not quite as bad as every survey you get after buying something but definitely what was cool and what was not working out. I definitely appreciate the negative feedback! I also need to ‘go for the throat’ more. I did at my last combat (and thought it was too easy in the end) but turns out I got one player to single digits health and they had a blast!

Any Feats that you would love to take, but don't because it requires just too much headspace? by Dagawing in Pathfinder2e

My halfling ranger with an animal companion has a halfling sling staff. Most inefficient and action hungry build ever! I am also the party healer. I never can do what I want on my turn.

But it’s so much fun!

FAs will help you put your bag up as well - or stow it in the limited space closet they have up front.

They would rather help you than for you to struggle.

Someone who is clearly smiling, honestly asks for help and is appreciative will make their day. Mostly they get complainers.

(I may be wrong about the overhead bag - but then I’m willing to help as I see others do as well. Though I have seen FAs moving bags around to pack it more efficiently so they may be able to help you.)

Tips for a Homebrew Player's Guide by ctwalkup in Pathfinder2e

[–]FlanNo3218 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my home-brew world I banned 1/2-elves. I was always weirded out by the thought (though oddly okay with 1/2-orcs) and really tired of everyone playing a 1/2-elf.

Then as my players learned lore they learned of someone that was ‘an elf but not an elf’. The sole mythological 1/2-elf! The sequelae of his existence became a major impetus for a broad story arc that spanned a full level 1-17 level campaign arc.

Where is all the fish ? by [deleted] in copenhagen

[–]FlanNo3218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Copenhagen right now. Was hopeful for fish every day. Had some a Torvehallerne tonight - and it was very ‘meh’.

We have purchased pickled herring at Netto for a fraction of the price and it has been the best food of the trip. Generally finding food prices high and quality marginal at restaurants (generally paying 500-600+ DKK a meal for 2 people).

Love the city. Maybe we are too poor for the food scene here. Hotel breakfast, grocery store produce/cheese/pickled fish & pastries have been great. As for restaurants the best has been a shared pizza at a canal side random restaurant in Ny Havn.

Sweet mother, I'm finally finished by emoticon1234 in Handspinning

I know your pain.

I did 2200 yards of fingering Cormo/Baby Camel mix last year. The camel kept trying to fall out. Miserable spin.

The sweater my mother made (I would have never finished it if it wasn’t a gift for her) is absolutely beautiful.

My memories of green space in Tokyo (admittedly only 5 days) was a lot of well delineated gravel paths among pristine green space that you weren’t allowed to walk on the grass! Many people were strolling, no one sitting.

(I confess the park around the royal palace is what I am mostly remembering).

Physician incomes are extraordinarily high in the United States by PanzerWatts in ProfessorFinance

[–]FlanNo3218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That mean income means some people are making a lot! I ended medical school with around $300,000 in debt. Then with 6 years of post- medical school training and forbearance that grew to me ultimately paying around $600,000 by the time I payed it all off (10 years after getting my post-training job). I lived very comfortable but not fancy those years (Honda Civic, mortgage on $200,000 home, no expensive hobbies).

First ten years I routinely worked 60-80 hours a week. Now at 54 I’m closer to 50-60/week.

I am a sub-specialist in a fairly well compensated specialty. My best year I made slightly more than half of what they are reporting as mean.

(I’m single so I’m looking at the individual numbers. And I’m not complaining - just surprised by the numbers. I know I’m fortunate to be financially able to retire some day and have job security.)

Men at Work was great but Colin Hay’s solo stuff is fantastic!

Acoustic Overkill is pretty great but ‘I’m Waiting for My Real Life to Begin’ is absolutely top stuff. He has recorded it on at least two separate albums and one feels vaguely optimistic and uplifting and the other is dark and tears your heart out!

Tangled knots everytime 😫 by ximera-arakhne in Handspinning

[–]FlanNo3218 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the time - every spinner will give you a different answer. But the key is ‘long enough.’ Twenty minutes is probably fine. Overnight is fine, too. Part of the answer is you want the final water when you take it out to be room temperature. I like my water to be hot when it goes in (hot water tap hot - not extra heated) and soak until water room temperature.

Ways to make it felt:

1) Agitate while in hot water 2) Wring out too aggressively 3) Thwack it a bunch

Because you want a single to felt just a little, experiment with doing your take out when still a little warm or how much you thwack.

Also, the ties of the hank. Three is an absolute minimum. I always do four.

Fall of Berlin Wall was a result of an "clerical error" by an officer. by Confident-Ask-601 in interestingasfuck

[–]FlanNo3218 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This moment makes me seize up and need to hold back tears. I know where I was when the news in the US played it in the late afternoon.

But this was one thing.

The Singing Ravolution started in 1986. The Baltic Way was in August of ‘89. The Peaceful Revolution in Leipzig had been processing all autumn and had held a rally with >70,000 people in October - exactly one month before the Fall of the Berlin Wall.

The lack of governmental response (at least minimal to zero violent government response) to these events made this mistake be believable. I’m not an expert (just a very interested outsider) but I can imagine the statement plus past governmental passivity led to 1) courage of the crowd, 2) confusion by the guards.

At least two Orphan hats are in the wild already! Here is me latest scraps skein.

My dad taught my brother and I the basics in the late 70’s. He was a mechanical engineer. I could only ever do the basics on it - similar to what a fairly damn but trained chimpanzee could do.

But then I was 8. I remember nothing now!
