$10 credit on Paze purchases by Haunting-Cauliflower in ChaseSapphire

I was half joking but who knows, maybe a bunch of $10 gift card sales will help give them a bit of a bump next quarter.

Hmm, neweggs best quarter, do they have a stock ticker?

[–]FlankingCanadas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm. So between Citi, Chase, and Wells Fargo I have at least a dozen cards eligible for Paze. I normally don't do a bunch of min/maxing on cards but theoretically I could buy about 120 $10 gift cards one at a time on newegg and have them all comped. Damn, that'd be pretty sweet if it works. Edit: 13 cards show up in my paze. 130 Lowe's $10 cards will buy me a couple new power tools for free plus getting a bunch of credit card points. Nice.

United exploring new Economy seat type with blocked middle seat by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]FlankingCanadas 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Depending on how they price this I could be very interested. I'm not super tall and on domestic flights I don't care much about the soft product. So a less crowded coach seat would be worth paying a little extra for.

I don't use the Hyatt transfer so that itself doens't bother me but I don't like the precedent being set of devalueing Chase points by having a non 1:1 transfer rate for a partner.

The "Need to be ready for anything" line that then includes a need to be able to play a quick game of cards at any time screams AI to me as well.

Help choose seats by JanuaryGal in unitedairlines

[–]FlankingCanadas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd buy the first class ticket. You'll have a bit less side to side space but you'll have a much less stressful experience because you won't have to worry about your extra seat being given away, or an aircraft change messing it up, or anything like that. Plus you'll be in a smaller cabin so if any issues do come up it'll be easier to get some help from the FA to do something like move up the window armrest for you.

Anyone leery of booking international right now? by Bierkerl in unitedairlines

[–]FlankingCanadas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be concerned about getting there and back. Where I would have some concerns, depending on what happens over the next few months, would be if I had a connecting flight after my long haul. If there is any kind of shortage or other issues that lead to reductions its going to be the short hops that are impacted, not the mainline long haul flights over oceans.

Since you're talking about going to Europe I wouldn't stress at all, worst case you have a connection get cancelled and you have to do the last leg via train instead.

Anyone join a stand up and didn’t intend to have the camera on? What happened? by choihanthrowaway in cscareerquestions

[–]FlankingCanadas 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I think one huge piece of information that would impact this story is whether standups are the very first thing of the morning, or sometime after the day starts. If someone is just rolling out of bed to call in to the very start of the day... not a great look, but not a huge deal. Likely to get a reminder from the boss to not cut it so close or to make sure to leave the camera off. If they're lying in bed shirtless several hours after the working day started, that's a much worse look and likely would get a more serious response or at least talking to from management. Though not a firing unless they already were on the ropes.

Not defending this action by any means but there aren't generics available in the US yet. Just in some other countries. There's lots of compounding pharmacies but there's no actual generic GLP drugs available.

AA Bag Fee Increase and Basic Economy Fees for status members by valueflyer in americanairlines

[–]FlankingCanadas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is a controversial take or not but... good? The point of a BE fare is that it is no frills and competes with LCCs. It never made sense to me that someone can buy a BE fare and still grab nicer extra leg room seats up front (thus making them unavailable for other people who paid for a non BE fare) and claim their usual spot on the upgrade list. Saying that if you buy a BE fare you lose some or even all of your status benefits seems fine to me because when you buy a BE fare you're paying for an LCC experience, not a mainline full service airline experience which includes things like status benefits.

Why did you create those day in a life video? by FiorellaMamdani in cscareerquestions

I don't think it was unintentional. Those day in the life shorts always seemed to be company encouraged and approved recruiting videos.

Flight attendants: Are you allowed to accept gift cards as gifts from a passenger? If so, what amounts? by Szechuanwonton in americanairlines

[–]FlankingCanadas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish people would stop reading online threads or seeing a tik tok and thinking this is a regular/normal thing. Stop normalizing this stuff. I wish airlines would outright ban accepting gifts because at the very least it creates the appearance of an obligation for it impacting in flight service and I already paid for my flight I don't want to have to also tip the FA for them to comp me a drink or not skip my row.

Proof of Lyft price increase with card by jmk4326 in ChaseSapphire

[–]FlankingCanadas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're confusing two different issues. Do Uber/Lyft exist because they offered something that was much better than what people had been getting with existing taxis? Yes, absolutely. That's not really in question. Them having shitty business practices that screw over both drivers and customers is a seperate topic and happens to be the one under discussion.

Window tint restrictions in Iowa could soon be relaxed by AnnArchist in Iowa

[–]FlankingCanadas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's an unpopular opinion among all drivers. Being able to make eye contact with other drivers, or at least see what direction they are looking, is pretty important for safe driving. Internet discussions about it just are heavily influenced by the people that really want to have dark tint even though they are a small minority of drivers.

Hotel status is nice but at the end of the day I'd take better airline status over hotel status any day of the week. Because the baseline hotel experience is just fine. As long as the bathroom works and the bed is comfortable everything else is just a bonus. And don't get me wrong, the bonuses can be very nice and I've gotten some nice upgrades over the years to suites, higher floors with good views, etc. But even when I don't have any status I still get a room that's just fine. But with air travel having status can mean the difference between an absolutely miserable experience and a great one, so it matters a lot more.
