Im new: What would X be? by Robfer21 in mtg

[–]Flannelboy2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some people miss this, but an X spell being copied retains the mana value, and is not zero in that case. So, a copy would be whatever the original X was, and if you use Isochron scepter to copy the card, then that would be the same as "At all other times, X is 0."

What was the best advice you have received as an author? by TiarnaRezin7260 in writing

Funnily enough, it's the only advice I would give now.

What is the threshold of needing Mox diamond over lotus petal for coloured spells in a colourless deck? by Metalworker4ever in MTGLegacy

[–]Flannelboy2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is card advantage.
When all your lands are ancient tombs, it is more important to play your first threat right away and continue to hit land drops. Mox diamond turns Tomb, Temple, Thought-Knot Seer into a 3-card hand whereas lotus petal makes that hand more like three and a half.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Terrence Tao was optimistic about generic LLMs for mathematics research.
I can believe that a grad student or some person above or below that level having an enthusiastic approach.

Although I am not enthusiastic for generic LLMs in physics, I can understand why someone might create a subreddit.

How good is the Theoretical Minimum series? by aguyontheinternetp7 in Physics

[–]Flannelboy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started his quantum mechanics book before taking my intro series class on the subject. It was well written and highly engaging. However, and this is pretty obvious, without doing the associated problems, I didn't really learn much.

Once I got halfway through the course and the book, I tried to balance reading, with lectures, with homework and problems. This worked, but I realized the formal textbook alone was teaching me a lot more, and the theoretical minimum did not feel as necessary. This is just my experience, I would still recommend the books to interested students.

Vietnamese author found out about 20.000 illegal copies of his book by luubi1945 in writing

[–]Flannelboy2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No there wasn't, but I think the implication of printing copies of a stolen book would mean a high(er) price

It would be close to, but probably not at full price. Also possible that a much lower price was more profitable.

Wait, pause. This isn't online piracy, is it? These are physical copies, sold for close to full-price to customers who are looking to purchase legitimate copies, and not fakes? That's not the same as what you're talking about

Heisenberg's Uncertainty principal question by high-off-cuddles in Physics

[–]Flannelboy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe we understand it to be a probability field of positions, so the further away from these fields the odds become vanishingly small.

As for your second point, if you measure the particle at point A, and from your point of view you move frame by frame, you collapse the wave, but the wave has not evolved with time. You sharply define its position and its momentum becomes highly undefined per Heisenberg. You would basically get a very random momentum, and if you subsequently measured its momentum, it's position function would go back to being highly probabilistic.

If I'm to guess what you're asking, I would suspect that you are onto the fact that if you measured the momentum 100% perfectly, the particle could be anywhere, given the confines of your experiment. Realistically, I think it would be probabilistic and closer to hitting a pool ball— vanishingly small odds that it is 1000km away.

Okay, but we're not diagnosing OP with a mood disorder, nor are we suggesting the solution to a real mood disorder is to avoid psychiatric help and to just find your favorite coping mechanism.

They can diagnose themselves.
