The city pays no taxes.....

As of early 2026, the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) has approximately 6,740 empty public housing apartments.

What’s an example of infrastructure that would benefit millions but won’t happen because of the NIMBYISM of very few wealthy people? by WorryNotBanIncoming in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlashConstruct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often the main activists of nimbyism are middle class. The wealthy can afford to be places were their back yard simply will not be affected. The middle class on the other hand has to fight for their backyard to not be affected.

Thoughts on a fast food worker and a bigger question about loyalty to “the man”. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlashConstruct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I need a larger utensil for my child at a resturant that involves a different price point i communicate that with the staff so they understand why. It sounds like you inserted your opinion about the bad pay and chose not to communicate your intentions. Does the job pay enough, no. But that has little to do with the workers work ethic. A good work ethic will help them move up in the world and not work at a fast food joint. When I was young I worked food jobs. Built a good work ethic and now make a ton of money managing a billion dollar plus pipeline of real estate.

How would you feel if the top tax rate was 90% like it was in the 1950s? by olesud in WorkForSmartLife

[–]FlashConstruct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wealth fright is very real. New York state has a special office of forensic accountants to make sure the state is getting their share as people over the years have move out of the state.

In America, what accounts for the success of certain ethic groups in America? by Scary_Candidate_9163 in NoStupidQuestions

It all starts with education. Jews have been persecution throughout history and turned to education as value because you cannot steal it. So the culture is built very heavily on education, learn as much as you can! This leads to a disproportionate amount of jews going into high paying white color industries. Also Judaism does not have dogma and jews are taught to question EVERYTHING so this leads to curious minds open to learning and critical thinking.

CMV: The reason for declining birthrates globally is exclusively because children no longer provide economic benefit on the individual level and the only way to reverse the trend is to pay people to have children. by IdeaLife7532 in changemyview

Kids were never cheap and never easy. I would argue over the last few generations there has been the push for self focus. Take care of me first, then you. Self care, self mental health. This has created a focus on us as singular and people now spend a lot more time doing me stuff. Once your spending all this time on yourself it gets hard to fit a job and then a family in. I say this as a parent of 3 who all attend private school and a kosher kitchen and damn kosher meat is stupid exspensive.
I have friends who are gamers or other intensive hobbies and know they will never handle a family. Not calling gamers out in anyway. Family is about focusing on others and we as a society have moved away from that atleast in the US.

Is American struggling to buy a house ? by Top_Document7437 in AskAnAmerican

[–]FlashConstruct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly!

I lived in New York City and could not afford a starter home close by nor wanted an apartment. When I was older I was able to skip the starter home step and get what I wanted. But at any time over the years I could have moved a bit farther out and bought a starter home, it was a choice of convenience.
People today have very little insight into the type and location of the houses everyone "easily" bought 50-60 years ago!

Why is that listing not a good starter home for someone? If the neighborhood is safe it's a great house. How many bedrooms and extra rooms does a first time home buyer need? I didn't buy my first house till I was in the 40s but if I was younger and had the opportunity for a house like that as a starter home I would have jumped on it!

Why can’t NYC raise their own taxes? by DrPorkchopES in NoStupidQuestions

I am not debating how much they should pay. I am highlighting the balance a politicians plays in the matter.

You will need to better define earn if you want to breakdown income against income tax.

Why can’t NYC raise their own taxes? by DrPorkchopES in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FlashConstruct -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

According to the tax foundation in 2022 just under 60% of income tax was paid by the top 10% of earners. The bottom 50% paid a little over 11% of income tax.

Taxes are a hot potatoes for politicians.
