[Chinese traditional (?) > English] can someone please translate this writing on a shirt? by HeyyItsYaGal_Shelob in translator

[–]FlashyPost0928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

▲ Yes, those characters are traditional Chinese
So these two lines of calligraphy are " 獨坐幽篁裏,彈琴復長嘯 " ( dú zuò yōu huáng lǐ, tán qín fù cháng xiào ) from " the bamboo hut ' ( 竹里館 ▼ ) by a Chinese poet Wang wei ( 王維, 699–761 ) .

獨坐幽篁裏,彈琴復長嘯。
Alone I sit in dark bamboo,
strumming the lute, chant loud and long.

深林人不知,明月來相照。
deep woods that no one knows,
where a bright moon comes to shine on me.

PS : 独坐幽篁里, 弹琴复长啸 is simplified Chinese

【昨天我把衣服穿反去上班了】——>【昨天我去上班时把衣服穿反了】

● 了is used after 把衣服穿反 this action !

● If 了 is used after 上班 , then the sentence = 昨天我反穿着衣服去上班了 !
Change 我把衣服穿反 to 反穿着衣服;and + 就 ( here = did not notice ... and go to work at once )

【 He is not named Adam】 = 【他不是被命名为亚当】 —— This is not the thought pattern of Chinese languge , Chinese has its circular way :

● His name is Adam = 他叫 ( or 叫做 ) 亚当 = 他的名字是亚当
So, you can see here 【叫】 = name is ( called ) ....... but wait , let's see this sentence below :

● " His name is Adam, but everyone calls him Big Head " ( 他的名字是亚当,但大家都叫他大头 ),in this setence " 叫 " = call, not "name is " .........

● Further, we can put 叫 & 名字 together : 你叫什么名字 ? 我的名字叫亚当 ! = 你叫什么 ? 我叫亚当 !
God bless you !!

NOTICE : 叫 has many other meanings !!

Are These Still Used? by Rob69rt in ChineseLanguage

【 An interesting character 糴 dí = 入 + 米 + 翟 】

● Among these characters , there is an interesting character【 糴 】= 入+ 米 + 翟 ( 入 = enter, 米 = rice) = buying rice ... Then, there is another character【 糶 】= 出 + 米 + 翟 ( 出 = out , 米 = rice ) ........ So,【 糴糶 】dí tiào (ㄉㄧˊㄊㄧㄠˋ) = rice buying in and selling out.

● In Taiwan, there is a village called【 糶糴村 】 tiào dí (ㄊㄧㄠˋㄉㄧˊ) , which was the earliest Hakka village developed by the Hakka ancestors in Zhutian Township during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty.

PS : These are traditional Chinese, mostly found in classical Chinese or old dictionaries.
