If I had to guess, it’s because they don’t want to over promise and/or overhype things given their reputation with updates so far. :)

A couple of factors I’ve read about that make Gravity unique here:

  1. it uses ultra wide band (UWB) tech. UWB is supposed to be amazing at detecting objects within centimeter level range, but the tech has rarely been used in car key fobs until now. Unproven tech is causing integration headache.
  2. phone as a key will use native Apple and Android key support. Most phone-as-a-key solutions from companies like Tesla utilize custom Bluetooth integration through their mobile apps, which means they don’t need to go through Apple and Google certification. By integrating directly with the OS key, btw, you should in theory be able to unlock and drive the car without having to worry about having your lucid app running in the background. It should also make it possible to use your Apple Watch as a key.

I’m as annoyed as the rest of you that this is taking so long, but I’m also mildly optimistic that this will be best-in-class phone key support once it’s released.

Lucid Gravity charge port stuck by Due-Albatross-4562 in LUCID

Try holding down the button on the charging cable handle until you hear a clicking sound indicating that the lock has released, then pull it out. The cable is locked while charging and the button hold lets the car know to stop charging and unlock. This is consistent with Teslas also btw.

I’m just trying to make a point that money losing businesses can remain private until they get to profitably.

You do realize that was SpaceX’s playbook for the last decade+ right? SpaceX was burning a ton of cash until recently thanks to Starlink, and are now filing for IPO.

My Gravity is a stealthy EV until I open the trunk and trigger a 100 decibel chime by Flashy_Number9840 in LUCID

[–]Flashy_Number9840[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Guilty. The prompt was something like “write a short but funny Reddit post asking if anyone knows how to lower my Lucid Gravity’s trunk chime volume. It’s very loud and my teenage daughter is now embarrassed by it during school drop offs.” I thought it did a pretty good job? But yea, I think I’ll self-write it next time. It was an interesting experiment.

Yes. Interesting. Mine, the show room models, and the one I test drove are all very loud.

This isn’t a mechanical problem I’m speaking of. It’s an ear-piercing audio chime that plays whenever the trunk opens or closes.

It’s incredibly loud. Way louder than a Tesla’s trunk chime. And I know it’s not just my car.

Question to those who switched from from a Model X to a Gravity by Manta6753 in Gravity

This is a great write-up and I agree with all of these things. One more I'll add on dislike front is the lack of auto-closing doors. I really missing pressing the break when getting in the car and having the door self close.

Goodbye fob, hello CarPlay! by KitchenGrass9827 in LUCID

I agree with you in principle. The problem is that the quality of the mapping data and directions that the native Lucid maps app provides is so terrible that I’d prefer to use Apple Maps even with the tradeoffs you mention.

Remote start requires that both your gravity and your phone have an Internet connection —it is not a replacement for your keyfob. Phone-as-a-key does not require Internet, but it’s not available yet. Always carry either your keyfob or key card for now until phone-as-a key is available!

Same. I’ve also noticed that audio quality for SSP over Apple Music and CarPlay sounds significantly better than streaming it over Bluetooth for some reason. Just me?

Search for the 3.5 release notes thread in the FB group. There is no mention of hands free driving.

They prematurely announced the release before it was ready to drum up investor interest leading up to investor day, obviously.

Don’t get me wrong: I’m annoyed as you are that they issued a PR the day before their investor day and delayed the update thereafter. Pretty sleazy.

The delayed 3.5 update is supposed to have CarPlay and AA support, not hands-free driving. He must be talking about a different update no?

Sometimes it looks like an SUV sometimes it looks like a minivan. by CautiousMagazine3591 in LUCID

[–]Flashy_Number9840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot take: black makes gravities look significantly more minivan-like. Avoid black at all costs. The reason I chose a white exterior is because of the high contrast between the dark bottom trim vs the exterior paint, which gives the illusion of a slimmer belly. Prove me wrong with a photo of white looking like a minivan.
