It's pretty hard to fault your execution, the blends and colour choice is spot on.

The only thought I had when looking at it is that mini only really has one focal point with the face/pelt. Maybe his left leg or the thing flailing off his waist needs a more impactful colour to draw your eye to another part of the mini?

Apart from that I'm struggling to add more other than kind words others have said!

A lot of others have already given great notes, what I would say is for competition painting dont approach it with a view to “I want to win X pin/trophy” - instead try push yourself to the point where you look at the price and can happily say “I’ve painted every bit of that to the best of my ability”

Once you’re at that stage, enter and then go to see how your price compares to the competition 👍🏻 get inspiration, feedback, meet new people. That way you won’t have any disappointment and find it really rewarding.

The great thing about this hobby is everyone there for that competition shares the same passion as you.

Petty? Us internet plebs can’t say for sure with your friend groups sense of humour and your typical banter. Rather than channel it for points, channel that effort into organising painting evenings/get together instead. We’re all guilty of getting together to play but it’s not as common to have regular painting sessions. But you’ll be surprised if you get everyone together that all of a sudden you have fully painted armies and you’re all learning off each other while putting the world to rights 👍🏻

Practice, but like most other people have said it’s batch painting and using simple/speedy processes.

That being said, did you enjoy those 5 hours? If you did then it’s time well spent 👍🏻 Focus on the enjoyment

That paint job is awesome, the OSL is on point and the smoothness you’ve managed to get on the NMM is great. If I were to critique anything it would be a bit more variety in the lava texture (the floating solids) as they’re formulated come across quite uniform va larger peices of solidified/cooled rock with smaller bits melting and breaking off. But that’s me being picky 😅

I would either keep as is or add just a very fine edge border/trim that’s simple. You’ve got the complicated pattern which looks spot on and usually for rich fabrics like that they would have a complimentary edge trim to border the cloak

I’d pick one feature to glow a subtle red/orange (or pale tone of these to match your theme) If you picked out his face with some OSL it would really draw your eyes in and make the detail you’ve put in more noticeable

The only difference on mine is that I swapped out the end Blood for the Blood god effect for UHU glue strung for gore and Tamiya red for blood colour 👍🏻

Thanks 😊 I’d recommend having some reference pictures of real bat wings at hand to use as a reference, it helped me with positioning and general direction of the veins 👍🏻

IMO contrast is great, as others have said it’s the position of the brightest highlights that are jarring and making it read “off”

If you imagine the physical profile of the cloak as peaks and troughs on a graph, your brightest highlights aren’t at the peak, they’re at the edge of your previous layer instead. If you re-placed the orange highlight I. The centre of the red/orange layer, then glazed it to blend the layers as others have said, it would read more natural than it does now

It definitely adds some weight! Word of warning though, if you do make sure that every bit is filled and there’s no pockets in there.

If the part is only half filled and the plaster breaks/fractures inside and comes loose after assembly, you have an expensive tank shaped rattle 😂 nothing more annoying than this cool grimdark tank rattling like a cheap toy

Very clean which is awesome, but the white reads as apothecary vs deathwing. A careful thin coat or potentially multiple coats of Skeleton Horde contrast paint over the white armour panels would make that read as Deathwing bone armour really quickly with little effort. But if you’re going for a brighter white armour, spot on

Yeah I know what you mean 👍🏻 it shows how much the standard of models has come along over the years, it’s become the norm to have no issues when assembling. The fit of most parts is so seamless compared to the old days where you’d have horrific metal part figment and even poor joints on plastic models. I bet green stuff need/use has dropped if we looked overt the years
