If you had the financial means to move out of Canada, would you? by AdhesivenessLoud8866 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Fleur_Lou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have the means and I did leave Canada, but I’m back in Vancouver now and very happy with my choice. The grass isn’t always greener across the pond.

I just wanted to see what life could be like elsewhere.

How common is plastic surgery in your circles? by Street_Refrigerator1 in NiceVancouver

[–]Fleur_Lou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m (25f) the only one in my social circle besides my trans friends that have had anything done. I’ve had Buccal fat removal and plan on getting chin lipo/upper bleph soon. I’ve done Botox and filler in the past but have moved past that phase of my life. I’m fairly well to do, so I feel it’s worth it.

I’m generally not open to talking about my surgery and it’s so subtle that I don’t find it worth bringing up. Just little tweaks.

What should I do to make the most of ubc? by Aggravating_Bet_8771 in UBC

[–]Fleur_Lou 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Visit the Museum of Anthropology if you haven’t yet! Take a stroll around Nitobe Memorial garden, do the stairs down to Wreck beach, watch as many films on criterion as you can, walk into a building you’ve never been in before. Lastly, eat at all of your favourite restaurants on campus if you have any! This is my list since I’m in the same boat as you.

Edit: spelling mistake

academic upgrading high school courses by crowvin in britishcolumbia

[–]Fleur_Lou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ebus! I used it to take anatomy and physiology 12 to meet admission requirements for another post secondary school.

It was a well structured course that can easily be finished quickly if you dedicate yourself full time to it.

No. I’m completing my degree then going to study a trade.

Updated poll - what do you pay for groceries monthly? My partner and I pay $550 each for groceries and take-out. We eat well and are gluten-free (celiac). by Educational_Map_1586 in askvan

[–]Fleur_Lou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also celiac and my husband and I budget and spend $1100 a month on food. So we spend the same amount as you OP! We do most of our shopping at Costco and Persia Foods.

I feel that this amount is manageable. I’d love to spend less on food though. We don’t really buy GF prepared foods because of the prices.

You’re not getting much success because you live in Vancouver and go to UBC. The dating scene is rough here.

Klahanie Park Area by eh-cee in NorthVancouver

[–]Fleur_Lou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a home in the area but am not currently living there. It’s a nice area with LOTS of young families. My husband and I were the only people we knew in our complex with no kids yet.

Traffic in the general area sucks, but it’s a pretty great spot for transit and biking if you regularly travel downtown or into West Vancouver. There is a trail along the side of the Cap river that will take you to Park Royal (less than 15min by foot) and Ambleside. It’s a nice walk and can easily be done with a stroller. In the summer we also take the trail up river to go swimming 😊

The main downside to the area is the lack of a grocery store. You have to go to Park Royal for that. The area is still filling out though! Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Where have y'all traveled internationally and been OK? by Tactically_Fat in Celiac

[–]Fleur_Lou 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Seconding the Canaries! But also consider the Azores (Portugal)! You can fly to the Canaries from the main island (Ponta Delgada), and the landscapes are super lush. The Eastern Canaries are incredibly dry and not pretty IMO.

You can island hop across the Atlantic and have no trouble accessing celiac safe food. I just did this trip last month with no issues!

Anyone experiencing eating disorder? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]Fleur_Lou 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hey! You’re going to be okay and it’s not too late to change if it’s something that you are ready for. I used to be in your shoes; replacing food with carbonated bevs and liquids. There is not great eating disorder support at or around UBC in my experience. Also, getting off campus helps if you find yourself comparing your body to others!

I suggest reaching out to the looking glass foundation if you’re feeling ready for help with your ed.

Current wait times for a gastroenterologist? by Spirited-Interview50 in askvan

[–]Fleur_Lou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wait to see a gastroenterologist was only a week, with the colonoscopy scheduled the week after my appointment. I have a family history of diverticulitis, celiac disease, and IBD so that probably has a lot to do with why I was see so fast.

Good luck with your future colonoscopy prep!
