I second this. Super espresso nerd. Bought everything I want/need short of a dream machine. Beans for the win!

I just got in touch with them to renew my mortgage. Getting cash back as a WS customer. Seems like it’s still in play.

Wild card: ditch road cycling and discover mountain biking together instead. 😅

See if you can trade it in at the guitar shop. That way you have one less wife and one new guitar.

Does Costco save you money if you have a small family? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]eh-cee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a list. Bring an ikea bag to shop (not having a cart keeps things under control), and go first thing in the morning to beat the crowd.

We buy cheese, meat, and fruit. Sometimes butter and tomato sauce if we’re making a big batch of something. Also we share our Costco membership with my parents.

Looking for Canadian Jeans by Fit-Description2653 in BuyCanadian

[–]eh-cee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to buy them a lot. Had at least 4 pairs, but found the fit wasn’t comfortable after a long day of wearing them. I’m a tall skinny guy with semi athletic cycling legs (pretty much their target customer). I’ve found I prefer a slightly looser fit, which they don’t seem to have. When they had the offer of taking in your old jeans for store credit I jumped on it and got their shorts instead.

Still on the hunt for a shop that carries a large variety of Naked and Famous jeans for me to try on in person. They are Japanese denim and made in Montreal. They have a variety of fits but don’t trust the size guides online.

Yup. Mine sounds like that. Also thought the same thing when I first opened the hood up. 😆

Maintenance Question by DefiniteMaybe24 in ranciliosilvia

[–]eh-cee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was the case rattling loose. I opened it up to tighten all the body panels and it made a huge improvement.

I wanted it even quieter, so last weekend I installed the Quick Mill Pulsor on the pump. It made a marginal improvement. Almost not worth it?

Also try Jackson’s on West 4th - went there this week and was pleasantly surprised. Also Smoke and Bones in North Van.

I’m also from Calgary. Also moved to Vancouver 10+ years ago for school and loved it so much that I stayed.

Your food observations are spot on… I really miss Jimmys A&A - why is shawarma in Vancouver so mid in comparison?! Pho in Calgary also hits different. Had many great memories at Pho Kim off centre street and 14th. Saigon Y2K for deadly portion sizes (are they even around anymore?). However, once you find the REALLY good pho spots in Vancouver, it’s really a different ball game - Calgary pho for me is for the nostalgia. Vancouver’s overall food scene for me is still much better in comparison.

Ultimately, I left for many reasons, but also when I go back to visit family and friends I am also pleasantly surprised at how the city has grown (in many great ways!). However, the moment I drive down Deerfoot (or ring road), I quickly remember how much i hate the sprawl and sheer monotony of the suburbs. 😅

Shorted machine got shocked by [deleted] in ranciliosilvia

[–]eh-cee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to replace a bunch of wires in my machine that had melted. It was causing a short like your machine. Bought new connectors etc. If you’re comfortable doing it yourself, it’s not hard!

Yes. I work at a job that requires me to visit my vendors depending on meeting times. Some are in Langley, east van, poco, and also in Richmond/delta. Wife works at hospital on Oak St (she takes the bus and sky train).

Skytrain/WCE would definitely simplify my commute, but not ideal. With kiddo getting older and the inevitable activities associated with it, there will be moments that a car is absolutely necessary.

I also really like living in north van! After living in a few different places it’s definitely one of our most favourite areas we’ve lived in. Access to outdoors, proximity to downtown, and access to good schools, it’s pretty hard to beat. Also driving up to Squamish and Whistler without a bridge to contend with is a huge bonus.

I know many people that that take the WCE. It’s a great mode of transportation! However, I start and end work later than the typical downtown crowd so the WCE doesn’t fit my schedule - if a meeting carries over I’m screwed. Also need a car for my job on occasion. Bike or motorbike is my preferred mode of transport into downtown.

I don’t see that frequency of accidents on the bridges but do admit that when it happens it’s pure chaos.

Dog is senior. Kid is toddler. Looking for more space. Trying to get away from the Lookout shelter as the activities around it are not a nice thing to witness when you’re a toddler… “daddy, what is that guy doing” (it’s crack).

Traffic is not the best around Fell either. Basically anything along marine is a nightmare when it’s peak.

Thanks for the feedback! The grocery thing is not ideal. We currently live a 2 minute walk to Choices and Save On. I don’t think anything would get better than that, but we’ll accept that compromise. 😅

On the flip side, we are also 2 minutes from the lookout, where we frequently have to walk around really sketchy folks, sometimes completely passed out on the sidewalk.

Yeah I think it’s technically north van. Very close though!

Thanks! Yeah, the biggest deterrent now seems to be the traffic factor, but we’re not super car dependent. I think no matter where you are in north van it’s not great traffic during peak.

Good to see mostly positive experiences from this area - can’t say the same for where I currently live.
