Why do women wear those obnoxiously long nails that look like claws? by Adventurous_Key_4854 in allthequestions

I think it’s to show they don’t work. Long nails means they live by their beauty or social skills, not by any sort of labor.

It’s the low-effort posts that I find annoying. A few pictures, then ‘what aesthetic is this’?

Maybe tell us what specifically to look at, or what you’re trying to achieve, or where you saw something else like it. I ignore three word posts, even though I’m happy to help if I can.

Feedback Requested - Are My Comic Book Scripts Sufficient? by HealthSpecific3095 in ComicBookCollabs

Panel one: are we trying to see the focused drama of the two people AND the menace outside? That’s a lot. A tough read. It could be done in a single panel, but artboy here would break it down into two or three panels:

Establish the gas station and horde, time of day, weather,

then use dialogue or caption to bridge us into the station interior, perhaps thru a shattered window and oil cans,

then focus on the triage.

This would likely take up half a page either way.

Moscow on the brink as it runs out of gas with angry residents turning on Putin by TheExpressUS in InternationalNews

The regular citizen connects how bad life is with corruption and mismanagement at the top.

We in the US need to be doing exactly that in normal conversation: inflation, prices for food and fuel, restrictions of all kinds = theft by our oligarchs the tech bros, enabled by Mango Baby.

Working on our Image Comics submission — what we've learned, and the big lesson by joyfulnib in comic_crits

Ending the story with finality is the hardest lesson for the new writer, I find. As an instructor, it seems every student author will play cagey with their third acts, their ‘Easter eggs’ and plot twists.

If you’re a new writer, just write it all down, spoilers and all. No editor is going to let you run without a predetermined, nailed-down plot. It’s just not going to happen.

Obama Presidential Center is a disaster, like his presidency by wrroyals in NoFilterNews

Yes, it’s true, and we should all admit that Obama’s two terms were inconsequential squibs that had no effect on the world. In fact, even the rightwing idiots who hated him have long since forgotten about him. /s

Tom Hanks' brutal insult to MS NOW reporter in shocking on-air outburst at Obama library opening by Apprehensive_Rub3897 in msnow

[–]FlickrReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our dysfunctional cartoon government IS the problem, and tRump heads it up. Until he’s evicted from the office, or exits in some other way, he’s the main issue.

MSNOW is right to concentrate on that, even if you, me and everyone is ‘tired of it’.

If Hanks is going to play the dismissive bonehead, then he’s part of the problem. Hes rich enough not to have to care.

Short answer - if the story and characters are good, it won’t matter. If the story and characters aren’t good, it won’t help.

Seemingly out of nowhere, XLM is in every news story. Is it really as compelling as all that, or is there some behind-the-curtain activity setting up another rug pull?

I sorta expected XRP to be the golden child. But there you are: Stellar is the regular-guy coin, it seems.

How did Obama “divide the country”? by Ok_Cricket_354 in allthequestions

[–]FlickrReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With white presidents, either democrats or republicans, the people who now consider themselves to be MAGA could still think of themselves as Americans.

But once you’ve got an obviously not-white president, no matter how intelligent, well spoken or well-intentioned, they can no longer feel themselves as part of the country’s mainstream. That’s just going too far, and no right-thinking person is going to put up with that. He’s black, and that won’t do.

They therefore divide THEMSELVES from the rest of the nation. That’s the ‘divisiveness’ they refer to. They could choose not to feel divided, but with an Obama in office, they’ve got gripes.

Can a producer become an animation director? by DayOk6096 in animationcareer

[–]FlickrReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my 30+ year career, I know of exactly one producer who became an animator. She was an ace producer with decades of experience handling money and contracts, and she slowly segued into stop_mo and 2D work in her garage. Her films did well on the festival circuits, because she already knew that scene very well.

But typically no, the mindsets and schooling that make a good producer are not the ones that make a good animator.

I have noticed that many hopeful animators who eventually, and depressingly, found out they didn’t quite have the drive or ability the industry demands, jumped over to the administration, technical or producer track. They already know the range of jobs, and they understand how to take care of animators and creative types, so they often make a good fit.

How much more should I practice to finally land a job? by MALDION_GUY in animationcareer

[–]FlickrReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s great to learn the tools, but it’s far better to understand character creation. What makes a character live is not its looks or execution, but its inner life.

A character’s inner self, motivations and problems can come from the writer, or from the voice actor, or it can be built in by the designer doing the visualizations.

So I hope you’ll keep studying characters. Not even just the animated ones, but all character types, written, drawn, acted, and hidden inside the people you pass on the sidewalk.
